Days 1-2 (Garden of Vyn's Residence)
To more conveniently help Eira, you and Vyn decide to stay at your old house for the time being.
This gives you and Vyn the chance to pack up some small items you haven't gone through yet.
You: Now that I'm looking at everything, it seems like we left behind a lot of stuff when we moved last time.
Vyn: There are still several odds and ends we need to sort through.
You: Then let's take our time.
Vyn: Sure.
You: Eh? I didn't realize how much stuff there was on these shelves.
You: Some of it looks like... it hasn't been moved in a long time.
Vyn: Ogier had some of these things packed up before, but... I do not recognize any of it.
You: Why don't we take it out and look through it?
Vyn: All right. If we find something useful, we can pack it up and take it to the new house.
Vyn picks up a perfectly preserved rose sealed in plastic. He smiles thoughtfully, his gaze somewhat nostalgic.
Your curiosity is sparked by his reaction.
You: Vyn, you seem very concerned about that preserved rose.
Vyn: Yes, it is very special to me.
You: Special? Is there a particular story behind it?
Vyn: Yes. In fact, you are the main character of that story.
You: Me?
Vyn: Actually, this preserved rose has something to do with you.
As Vyn scans you with his gaze, he chuckles.
Vyn: The day it bloomed was the day we first met.
Vyn: When you came in that day, it silently bloomed on the windowsill in the study.
With Vyn's narration, the memory grows clearer, and you suddenly recall the first time you two met.
Vyn: That day is incredibly precious to me and holds special meaning.
Vyn: I wanted to find something to use as a memento, and I happened to spot the bouquet of roses on the windowsill. They were just beginning to wither...
You: So you preserved it as a testament to that memory...
Hearing Vyn admit this without hesitation, your heart floods with a mysterious warmth.
You: Actually, that day was just as special to me.
It's as if the preserved rose in front of you is frozen in time, filled with your precious memories. Not only did it witness your first meeting, but it will witness your future as well.
Different types of tools with various degrees of wear and tear are all neatly organized in the box.
It looks like Vyn uses them quite often.
You: I've heard my friends who were new to gardening complain about how complicated these tools are...
You: Now I finally understand what they were talking about.
Vyn put the tool box away, fastening it tight.
Vyn: These are considered relatively basic. They are also the most commonly used tools.
Vyn: Professional gardeners have a full set of gardening tools that would not fit into a small box like this.
You: Huh? So it gets even more complicated than this...
You look over at Vyn's garden, then at the tools in his hand.
You: Vyn, you grew all of these flowers by yourself, right...?
Vyn: Perhaps it is because I care about the natural growth process of flowers, but I prefer to cultivate them myself in most cases.
Vyn: Of course, if I run into a particularly difficult variety, I will leave it to a more skilled gardener.
Vyn looks out the window, his smiling eyes appearing determined.
You: The natural growth process?
Vyn: Yes. When you plant them, no one can be sure of what they might look like as they grow.
Vyn: After being exposed to the sun, wind, and rain... will they be able to persist and survive until they bloom?
Vyn: If they encounter obstacles they cannot overcome on their own, how might my intervention and help affect them?
You: ...
You didn't know Vyn had such profound thoughts about gardening.
Perhaps recognizing your surprise, Vyn smiles somewhat helplessly.
Vyn: Does describing it like that make it sound a bit dull? It is only planting flowers, but I am making it more complex than it needs to be...
You quickly shake your head.
You: No, not at all. It's really interesting!
You: Everything you just said could even be described as the philosophy and art behind gardening.
Vyn: If you are willing to listen, I would be happy to tell you more about it sometime.
You: Of course! I can listen to you while we plant flowers together!
Vyn: Sure. It is settled then.
Days 3-5 (Vyn's Bedroom)
You: There's so much stuff in this cabinet. Vyn, are these the reference books you usually use?
Vyn: Let me take a look...
Vyn: Ah, those are some books I read before. I guess I put them in this cabinet without thinking.
You: There are a lot of collector's editions too. Why don't we take everything out and look through it?
You: Maybe there's something you could use now.
Vyn: All right. We can do it together.
You: This stuff needs to be packed up and moved to the new house, right?
Vyn: Yes, but... there is not much space in the suitcase. We might not be able to fit it all on this trip.
You: Let's try putting it in first. Who knows? We might be able to fit it all!
A medical reference book with rustic bindings sits on the table.
It isn't new by any means — even a few of the corners on the hardcover are worn out. Even so, there isn't any dust on it, meaning it must be used often.
Vyn notices that you are somewhat intrigued, so he speaks up to tell you more about it.
Vyn: This is a comprehensive medical reference book. It contains information on several fields.
Vyn: It not only contains information on psychology, but clinical medicine, biomedicine, pharmacology, and many other subjects.
You: Is it like... a kind of medical encyclopedia?
Vyn: Yes, you could say that. I often look through it when I have free time.
Vyn: To a certain extent, the medical knowledge it contains has helped me gain a deeper understanding of psychology.
Vyn's fingers tenderly glide across the book's spine. You can see that he cherishes this reference book.
You: I had no idea...
Vyn: What?
You: You're already so smart, but you still seek out more knowledge outside your own field... I guess that's what they mean by a "lifelong learner."
Vyn: No matter the field, in medicine, there is always an infinite amount of knowledge to be gained.
Vyn: Whether it be psychology or other medical fields, the purpose is always essentially to help people.
Vyn: However, everyone's condition is different and may be very complex. Most of the time, doctors are required to understand several aspects in order to pass accurate judgment.
You: ...I understand.
You: Actually, it's pretty similar to being a lawyer. Civil litigation attorneys need to know about business law, environmental law, financial law, and a lot more.
Vyn: Right, in case they might need it for a "rainy day."
As you watch Vyn put the book away, an idea suddenly pops into your head.
You: I think... when we both have some free time, we could learn more about each other's fields!
You: You can teach me about medicine, and I can teach you about law. What do you think?
Vyn: I think that is a fantastic idea. How about we make some time for it next week?
You: Okay!
You spot a hand-bound book of sheet music.
You: Vyn, can I look through this?
Vyn: Of course.
As you open it to the first page, you see the words "Classical Scores" written in familiar handwriting.
You: Huh? Did you write this?
Vyn: Yes. I collected the classical scores in this book and bound them together myself.
You: Let's see what you've collected.
The paper is somewhat stiff and feels very textured as you flip through it.
As you look through the book, you suddenly exclaim to Vyn.
You: Hmm... Mozart's "Serenade"! Beethoven's "Spring"... Huh? This is...
You: Haydn's String Quartet in C major, "Emperor"!?
Vyn: Correct. It is all classical music that we both love.
Vyn: All of the classical scores I have collected in this book are unique and representative of the genre.
You: Do you usually play the music in here?
Vyn glances over at the piano next to him, then walks over and places the book of sheet music off to the side.
Vyn: Sometimes. However, many sonatas are not suited to be played on the piano alone.
Vyn: I always get the feeling something is missing when I play them.
Vyn: So I prefer to listen to them at live concerts.
You: That's true... Unless it's a solo piece, it can feel a little flat.
You: Oh! How about we go to a concert together? We probably need to book it ahead of time. We can try our best to snag some tickets together!
Vyn: Sure. I actually missed a few concerts I was interested in recently because I have been quite busy.
You: Then let's put a concert on the agenda. We can plan to go on our next day off.
A small box that looks extremely familiar catches your attention.
You: Vyn, are these playing cards? The pattern on them looks so familiar...
Vyn: You can open it up and take a closer look.
You nod and open the box. As you pull out one of the cards, you turn it over to find a familiar black-and-white pattern on the back.
You: Just as I thought... This is the deck of cards you had on the table when we first met!
Vyn: The very same.
Vyn: I usually keep them in the box and only take them out when I need to.
You: I'm a bit curious... When did you get into the habit of using playing cards?
Vyn pauses, thinking for a moment before he responds. You're unsure what's on his mind, but his expression appears somewhat unnatural.
Vyn: I suppose I developed this habit while I was in Svart.
Vyn: But I did not use this deck back then. Rather, I used a very old deck with historical roots.
Vyn: Although it was my favorite deck, I did not end up bringing it with me to Stellis.
You: Huh? Why not?
Vyn shakes his head as if he's thinking about how to respond to you.
Vyn: Because that deck was linked to Svart's history of nobility, so...
There is a hint of hesitation in his tone as he trails off, but you already have your suspicions.
Family, history... there are some things that Vyn would rather not discuss.
You: In that case, I think it's good you didn't bring them here. These cards are nice. They're simple but elegant.
You: And they're more convenient.
You: After all, if the cards are really important, they probably wouldn't be good for everyday use.
Vyn: ...
Though Vyn is stunned for a moment, he soon looks at you with a much more cheerful expression.
Vyn: I did not think you would see it that way... Yes... if I think about it, that makes perfect sense.
You: ...It was just a sudden thought.
