General[edit | edit source]

Ava Kendricks is the owner of Denman Financial, a debt collection agency known for use of shady collection means such as harassment and threats. She is suspected of selling illegal drugs and was arrested for this three months prior to the events of Episode 6: A Vicious Cycle (Part 1), however no evidence has been found regarding her case.[2] She frequents Night Hunt from the 25th to the 30th every month.[3]

Ava is the widow of Theodore Denman, whom she met at age 20 when she was arrested for stealing her classmate's allowance; the two married at age 22[4] after Theodore forced Ava into a lethal competition with her classmate for his affection.[5] Ava obtained control of Denman Financial after his death in a car accident in 2025.[6] She is represented by a high-pressure lawyer from outside Stellis, who has been working with her for many years and who has made detaining Kendricks a "major drain" on Stellis police resources.[2]

Resenting her childhood in a hometown she describes as "deserted" and "barely on the map," Ava blames her first crimes on her neighbors, as any family with a member who went to college is automatically considered "rich" and asked to donate to improvement projects regardless of individual situation. On a first impression, she is noted to have a shrewdness in her eyes and give off the appearance of someone who isn't to be messed with. She places high value on appearance, often commenting on it before any other feature of a person, and she's aggressive in her pursuit of handsome men, especially those who seem competent.[4]

Story[edit | edit source]

Ava is eventually revealed to be a cruel sadist, made so bitter by her experiences with her husband that she came to enjoy pitting men against women to see if all men were the same, choosing to save themselves at any cost. She recounts her past while calling herself a thrall to it, unable to ever win her freedom from it, and she admits wanting to drag everyone to hell with her, angry that she's the only one living in darkness. One instance of her sadism saw her force Jerry Jones and Naomi Anderson to choose which of them would live; while Jerry "won," he was destroyed by his crime and would go on to murder Ava.[7]
