Summary

Having found holes in Jerry Jones' story and failed to find him at home or school, the police begin a citywide hunt for Jerry. Artem, Darius, and the main character conclude that Jerry is the latest of Ava Kendricks' thralls, likely being used for his knowledge of chemistry to replicate the foreign drug.

Permission is granted for the attorneys to meet and interview Kendricks; while much of her history is revealed, she carefully avoids any confirmation that she knows of the murder, the drug trade, or the "thralls," threatening lawsuits and DA complaints if the attorneys blame her for the actions of her late husband e.g. recruiting Gene Greene. The two suggest in passing that someone may locate and use Ava's stash of blackmail to seize control of her gang while she's in custody, just as she did when her husband passed.
