Matthew Richter is the sibling of Reina Richter and uncle of Vyn Richter. He has cut off ties with the Richters, and ventured into business alone. Most of the money he earned was invested in the Gladiolus Valley Research Center.[2]
He has an extremely hostile relationship with his nephew, and it is believed that he is setting Vyn up to appear suspicious.[3][4] Investigations into Matthew reveal that he has a highly paranoid nature.[5]
Story[edit | edit source]
Matthew takes a special interest in the suffering of others. He runs an unusual deal in the underground space of a Stellis bar in which he asks for patrons to tell him their sad stories, then pays them money in accordance with how much he feels they've suffered. The only known rule is that those who tell him stories are not to lie; patrons have been known to disappear, and it's presumed that those who do so have told lies.[6] Those who have told him such stories recall that he participates in the conversations with excitement and enjoyment, and that he asks many questions, drawing the conversations out to great lengths.[7]
While investigating the death of Letha Graye, it was determined that Matthew had directed Mavis Sutcliffe to abduct Letha. When Mavis returned with Angela Diggs instead, Matthew posed as Hugo Graye and hosted a livestream implying Vyn was directly involved in the case. Hugo was found dead shortly afterward, and the public assumed that Vyn had committed the crime, furthering Matthew's apparent goal of setting his nephew up as suspicious.[6]Organization(s)[edit | edit source]
