Brad Gries was a former pharmaceutical researcher at Gladiolus Valley Research Center. He was murdered prior to the events of Episode 10: Sonorous Silence, allegedly by his ex-wife, Felicia Luo, due to lingering feelings of betrayal over their divorce.[1]

Those who knew Brad remember him as an introverted and exceptionally kind man who was incapable of hurting others, though this trait was extreme enough that it made him seem timid and cowardly in his dealings with others, as he would never complain against, turn in, or press charges against those who wronged him.[2] Early in his relationship with Felicia, he also quietly paid settlements to those who came into conflict with her due to her fortune-telling scams.[3]

Brad is survived by his daughter with Felicia, Brigid Gries.

Story[edit | edit source]

During Brigid's hospital treatments, Brad heard about a miracle cure from other families of long-term patients. Curious about the cure since pharmaceutical research was his career, Brad purchased a sample and was distressed to find its composition suspiciously similar to compounds he'd worked on at Gladiolus Valley. He attempted to blow the whistle, but the forces that rose against him silenced him too efficiently at every turn. Now fearing for his life, Brad attempted to keep his family safe by distancing himself from them, claiming to have met another woman and leaving all of his money and property to Felicia in the divorce settlement so that she could take care of Brigid alone. When Brigid's condition sharply declined, Brad suspected someone had given her the "miracle cure," which had a high chance of harmful side effects, in retaliation. Brad then decided to save future victims of this drug by forcing his knowledge into the public the only way he could: by "killing his future self," locking himself in a basement with only poison to drink and setting the scene in such a way that he could guarantee the amount of NXX in his system would become public knowledge that would be investigated.
