Summary

Luke and the main character review the details of NXX-019: Jasmine Kenders' death in a car accident on a mountain road near Opaline Village. Jasmine had been investigating a recent water pollution scandal in the village, but her investigation pinned the blame on a Heirson Health Products lab's illegal waste disposal rather than the paper mill the media had blamed prior to Jasmine's article. Heirson sued Jasmine for defamation, and after losing due to Ian Johnson's unexpected testimony switch in favor of Heirson, she returned to the village to gather more evidence, which was when she died.

Due to the effects seen in Opaline's fish, Luke and the MC theorize that the Heirson lab in the area may be the base of their NXX research, and that Jasmine may have been murdered to cover Heirson's dealings in the area. The pair also discuss an unknown hacker who got Jasmine's case flagged as abnormal by repeatedly hacking the Big Data Lab to change its status.
