Neil Hume is a renowned civil lawyer, Artem's mentor, and a former NXX Investigation Team member who has been missing since October 2029.[2][3] He is suspected of possibly having been involved in the disappearance of Giann von Hagen.[4] The last person to have seen him prior to his disappearance was the Director of Stellis Orphanage, which had been the recipient of Neil's legal counsel since he defended the facility from a smear campaign.[5]

Neil was Artem's elementary teacher who was transferred to Stellis University after Artem graduated. Neil would often visit Artem and his family because Neil was close to Artem's parents. [6]

When Artem was young, Neil would take Artem out for fun once in a while. In one rare instance, Neil brought Artem to the amusement park in Stellis.[6] Neil also taught Artem how to cook in general and how to cook General Tso's Pork, Artem's best dish.[7] When Artem was a university student, Neil claimed to have bought a camera to record Artem's growth.[8]

At Stellis University, Neil was one of the main character's professors, who would often take his class out for BBQ.[6]

As a lawyer, Neil is very passionate about taking on cases from the public without charge and would travel alone to serve the public. Artem notes that Neil is fond of the saying, "the dream of us attorneys is that one day, the world will no longer have need for us."[9] Others note that Neil is warm-hearted and helps those in need.[10]

Neil has a history of disappearing to infiltrate criminal organizations.[2]
