Van Kerrel was the appraiser for Lester Auction House and was Lawrence Myers' close friend and business partner, having known each other since university and worked together for 30 years; Lawrence remarked that Van treated Lawrence's two grown children as his own[2]. Marius von Hagen considered him an inspiration instrumental to his current artistic prowess.[3]
Van was noted to be a messy person who kept many things and wouldn't allow them to be organized for fear of not finding them again later.[4]
Van Kerrel had clinical depression, for which he had been undergoing treatment through a combination of therapy under Vyn Richter[4] and home care by Johnny Bailey, but he ultimately committed suicide on November 12, 2029[5], allegedly in connection with the Auction House's item-swapping scandal and assisted by Lawrence. This act is the focus of the X-NOTE case NXX-1036. He named no next of kin, leaving his assets, which were set to be auctioned off by the government after his case's completion, to art foundations and nursing homes.[4]
Story[edit | edit source]
Lawrence Myers once remarked that Van was the most honest and upright person he'd ever met and said that after receiving treatment for his depression, Van had remarked in September of 2029 that he was nearly feeling back to his old self.[6]
