Summary

The proprietor of The Abyss attempts to exchange Edwin Burke's secrets in exchange for a future owed favor from Marius, describing how Edwin repeatedly pawned his secrets for more time to pay off his gambling debts. When Marius refuses to exchange his favor, the bar owner threatens to tell Irene Burke, who has already bought back some of the secrets, which will cause her to destroy the evidence she has. Rather than give away a favor, Marius wins the secrets in a dice game by cheating more skillfully than the bar owner did. Upon examining the envelope full of photos in the car, the main character discovers Irene has a clear motive.

There is another young child that appears frequently in many images, presumably Irene Burke.
