Luke "Sky Ashes"/Rewards

Story Summary

This story takes place in an Alternate Universe (AU) or possible past life. Its events do not affect the main timeline.

MC is a student at Minning University, where a rare mineral started a war between Minning city and Yinya City. MC goes to school with Kiki and Luke and she excels at cryptography with Kiki. Kiki asks MC if she's going to the graduation dance with someone and MC says no. Kiki says she needs to confess to Luke and will regret it if she waits, like she did with Dean. Luke, a pilot, flies over their heads in his plane. Kiki leaves and Luke asks MC to the dance. MC says if he can beat her in a cryptography, she will go with him. Luke agrees.

MC and Luke meet in the training room. Luke hides a box and they start the game with Morse code on their hands. Both ask similar questions about what they’ll do after school, but Luke takes more time to code than MC. Luke is disappointed but MC says they just had to compete. He recalls a time where the MC asked him to the training room and he thought she would confess, when in fact she wanted to ask for Self-defense tips. MC asks if they want to practice again. They do and MC frisks down Luke. Someone interrupts them.

Kiki tells Luke and MC the principal is looking for them. Principal wants to send them out before graduation. Bombs are planted somewhere and they’re needed as a team. Luke and MC accept. Principal gives them his private line and says if he doesn’t answer, there is trouble. Aaron takes them to their location and their cover - two newlyweds. They translate and found there are five planes and one is filled with bombs. The county magistrate is hosting a tea party and multiple people are invited.

Luke calls the principal but he doesn’t answer. The plane with bombs is on the rooftop. Luke gets an invite to the tea party. MC creates a diversion and knocks out the guards to go upstairs. MC and Luke hide as the Magistrate is being threatened. Luke shoots the spy hurting the Magistrate before checking the plane. The bombs are activated and one hour remaining. Luke decides to fly the plane. Before more happens, more spies come and start a shoot out. When it stops, Luke has a bleeding arm.

Luke gets on the radio and checks the bombs. They have less than 27 minutes left. Fuel tank has enough for 100 km. Luke gives MC the box and says it’s a secret he will tell her when he comes back. MC tells Luke she has something important to tell him but he needs to come back. Luke agrees and flies off. MC and Magistrate go to Air Traffic Control. MC sees he’s going to slow and asks Luke what’s wrong. The fuel take is breached and leaking. MC helps re-route to save more people.

Alarms blare in MC’s headset. Luke manages to ask if MC is there before a loud boom goes off. The tracking goes dark, but the signal tower catches an image of the plane. It is in flames with Luke trying to steady the plane. He’s out of the danger area. MC asks when Luke is coming back. Luke says he can’t move. He says he needs to tell her something. MC says that not right now. Luke says he may not get the chance, and that MC is the best intelligence officer he’s ever seen. He wishes her a happy life and all her wishes to come true,and - the communication cuts off. The image is now unstable. A loud explosion is heard. A month later, Aaron gives you Luke’s recorder pen. He tells MC that they found one final message, a Morse code right before his plane crash. “...-..---...-.-.-----..-” MC translates it as “I love you”.

You: (Luke returned the following year after the explosion.)

You: (After the plane crash, the ocean carried him to a small fishing village in Yinya, where he was rescued by the local fishermen.)

You: (Luke's severe injuries prevented him from contacting us until ten months ago when he returned to the front lines.)

You: (We became partners once again, and together, we ushered in peace.)

Point 2 (Shirt)

You: Luke, your shirts all seem to be the same style.

Luke: Well, I bought these with Aaron when I first started college. It's almost worn out now. Time to buy some new ones.

You: I'll help you pick out a few shirts the next time we go to a department store.

Point 3 (Strap)

You: You're not hiding razor blades here today, are you?

Luke: Of course not. Peace has returned to Minning City, so there's no need for me to carry so many weapons.

You: But it feels like something's in here...

Luke: Yes, that's because... I hid something in there.

You: What is it?

Luke: It's a secret. If you want to know, look for it yourself.

You: ...

Luke: Fine, fine, I won't tease you any longer. I hid two movie tickets, and I planned to take you to the movies after the ride.

You: (Peace has returned to Minning City, so we'll probably have more time for dates like this.)

Present...

You: That box... isn't that the one you asked me to hold onto that year?

Luke: Yes, that's the one. Thank you for taking such good care of it.

You: Don't mention it. How come you brought it with you today? Giving it to someone?

Luke: Yes, I'm giving it to the person that I wanted to give it to a year ago.

You: (The person that he wanted to give it to a year ago...)

Luke: Do you remember the special going-away party the school hosted before we graduated?

You: Of course. We were on a mission, so we couldn't attend it.

Luke: Yes, I was planning on using it to confess to you when the party ended.

You: (So Luke was preparing to confess, but...)

You: What made you think of getting me a pearl hairpin?

Luke: Because when we went to the jewelry store for the mission, I noticed you checking it out a few times, so I bought it for you.

You: (That happened three years ago. I can't believe Luke remembered it...)

Luke: I just didn't expect so many things to happen later—the emergency mission, the plane crash, being so far apart, and a crisis on the front lines...

Luke: Fortunately, now that things are calming down in Minning City, we... don't need to worry about how "love" can cause the other person to be miserable for the rest of their life.

You: Luke...

Luke: In the past, my greatest wish was peace for my hometown and comrades, for which I was willing to sacrifice everything.

Luke: But then, I met you. I realized how much I hoped to walk with you toward a bright future.

Luke: So will you give me this chance to be a part of your life?

You: Yes... Of course, I'm willing.

Luke: So... can I put it on for you?

You: Sure.
