Over the weekend, you and Artem take Ollie to a dog park.

The park is beautifully landscaped, and many owners are here with their dogs.

At first, Ollie seems excited when she gets out of the car. But when she sees so many dogs, she becomes timid and stays by Artem's legs.

You: Ollie seems to be scared.

Artem: In the animal world, size is the most direct indicator of strength.

Artem: Pomeranians are small by nature, so they're scared when faced with so many big dogs.

Artem: But interacting with other dogs is an important part of socializing, so it's a "necessary practice" for Ollie.

Artem doesn't stop walking just because of Ollie's resistance.

You: So we should introduce Ollie to other dogs?

Artem: Yes... Overstimulation might be too stressful for Ollie though. Let nature take its course.

Just then, a couple comes along with a huge Labrador.

The moment the Labrador sees Ollie, it wags its tail excitedly, wanting to come over.

Ollie doesn't pay it any attention. Instead, she cowers behind Artem.

Seeing such a situation, the couple looks at Artem with an inquiring look, and Artem responds with a nod before moving aside.

You: Is that okay?

Artem: Ollie's emotions are stable at the moment, and the Labrador isn't rushing over, so it's a rare opportunity to socialize.

When the Labrador is about five steps away from Artem, Ollie starts to tense up and growls.

The couple immediately tightens the leash, and the Labrador stops walking. It looks at Ollie, puzzled.

But this doesn't calm Ollie down. She growls more intensely, looking like she might attack at any moment.

You: Why don't... I take Ollie away from here?

Artem: Don't worry. Let me try again.

Artem stops observing and steps in between the two dogs, using his body to cease their confrontation.

Much to your surprise, Ollie calms down quickly, licking her small nose before relaxing on her stomach.

The couple marvels at Artem's action, almost wanting to applaud.

You: Ollie has indeed calmed down!

Artem returns to your side, providing an explanation as he smiles.

Artem: Yes, pets and owner communicate their emotions. When Ollie feels afraid, I can give her confidence.

Artem: At the same time, my intervention can stop her excitement and calm her down.

Artem: Look, Ollie is still calm, even without me there.

Only after Artem mentioned do you realize that Ollie isn't tense about confronting the Labrador anymore even without Artem.

You: That's very effective!

Labrador's Master: Your method is remarkable. I learned something new today!

Labrador's Master: Abe has always been enthusiastic, scaring his fair share of small dogs along the way. Now that I know this method, I'll have a better handle on Abe.

The Labrador approaches Ollie enthusiastically, as his owner greets you and Artem warmly. This time, however, Ollie doesn't refuse.

Seeing the two dogs getting to know each other, you and Artem smile.

You: Artem, who would've thought you've only just started looking after a pet recently?

Artem looks at Ollie playing with her new friend, his voice reaching your ears in the wind.

Artem: Because both of us are taking care of Ollie during this period, I got interested in learning a thing or two about pets.

Artem: Ollie is adorable, plus... You had a hard time the first night you met Ollie. I don't want that to happen again, so...

The breeze in the park caresses the grass on the ground, as well as your and Artem's hair.

Artem's voice is soft, but you already know what he wants to express.

Even now, Artem is not used to verbally express the concerns he naturally has for others.

You: You don't need to say anything else. I get it.

You gently take Artem's hand, interlocking your fingers with his, and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the moment.
