Artem "Fixated on You"/Rewards

Story Summary

This story takes place in Year 1. Artem is not yet in a relationship with the MC.

Artem and the MC are at the office at World Entertainment Resort for work. They're helping to draw up a contract for land acquisition so the Resort can add a water park, but it has been difficult to get the local farmers' consent for the acquisition. As they finish the contract, their client suggests the attorneys take time off to explore the resort. The two agree and head out to the park, discussing its top-rated attractions and agreeing to go to its Fantasy Carnival together. The MC mentions a previous trip to the same Carnival with her parents when she was young and speaks of memories of pumpkin pie and face-painting.

The attorneys walk to a nearby farm. The MC recalls a past visit the previous month, in which the farmers were abrasive and aggressive in their rejection of World Entertainment Group's proposed compensation. Artem mediated an agreement in which the company would help the farmers profit greatly from the increased tourism in the area. Starstruck by his handling of the case, the MC confesses to "worshiping" Artem, but he tells her that he doesn't want her to feel that way. A farmer approaches the pair, thanks Artem for his mediation, and offers to let the two pick any crops from his field.

The MC is amused by Artem's extremely high standards for his vegetables, asks him to relax, and asks for his help learning how to pick good vegetables. Artem offers to make dinner before their trip to the Carnival that evening.

Artem prepares a dinner of Asian cuisine with a pumpkin pie. The MC begins to take a photo to send to her parents, but she stops, realizing they likely won't see it. Artem admits he made the pumpkin pie in hopes she would think of him in the future when she remembers the dish, and the two resolve to see each other as friends rather than Artem being the MC's idol.

That night, at the Fantasy Carnival, the pair tries several attractions. One of these is body painting, where Artem paints a cartoon pumpkin on the MC's cheek. The MC expresses happiness at learning a new side of Artem that day.

The next day, the contract to acquire the farmers' land is signed smoothly. Back at Themis Law Firm, Kiki is surprised that Artem would ever go to a carnival, and the MC tells her that Artem also has a playful side. In Artem's office, Celestine eavesdrops on Kiki and the MC's conversation, congratulating Artem on the pair's progress. The MC interrupts to drop off documents, and Artem gifts her a keychain with the cartoon pumpkin from the previous day. After she leaves, Artem looks through scraps of paper showing his difficult practice drawing the pumpkin.

Artem: I'm looking forward to seeing your lantern.

You: Nope. I was hoping to design one of my own.

You: The Halloween pumpkin lantern is pretty good too... Ugh, I can't decide...

Artem: You can try making different types of pumpkin lanterns.

Artem: I think it will look pretty interesting if you put them all together.

Artem: Speaking of jack o'lanterns, I just thought of something interesting.

Artem: Apparently, the first jack o'lanterns were originally made from radishes.

You: You mean, from the ancient Irish legend? A man named Jack was punished for playing tricks on the devil.

You: Forever wandering the earth, his soul could only carry a lantern made from a radish.

Artem: Hmm, I didn't expect you to be familiar with these legends.

Artem: But yes, that's how the radish lantern became the symbol for Halloween.

Artem: Later on, people found that the shape of a pumpkin was more fitting, and thus the radish was replaced.

You: Eh? I've never heard of any legends like that...

Artem: Their food is pretty good.
