Summary

Jen Mendoza reveals during questioning that she had been Estelle's secretary for five years but had maintained a strictly professional relationship with no involvement in her boss' private affairs; Vyn questions the latter statement since typically an assistant in Jen's position would arrange a hotel room next to her employer rather than staying on another floor as Jen had arranged. Jen believes that Estelle ate Marius' chocolate in front of everyone merely to show that there is no bad blood between the two companies and insists that Estelle would never falsely encourage rumors of romance or treat marriage like a game. Jen further explains that she is severely allergic to chocolate and has a rash from colliding with a chocolate tower at the banquet--verifiable by witnesses and other evidence--not from touching Marius' chocolates, which she kept in the box at all times until placing them in Estelle's minifridge.

After questioning, Jen attempts to leave quickly to inform Estelle's family of the incident and tend to other related matters, but the CSI Officer keeps her on site pending completion of questioning; Vyn, meanwhile, pulls the main character aside and reveals that Jen's testimony contained lies.

Jen's Testimony I

Evidence Description (Spoilers)

Jen's testimony regarding her job as Estelle's secretary, the whereabouts of the chocolates on the night of the incident, and people who came in contact with the chocolates.

1. Estelle had three secretaries, but Jen is currently the only one remaining. Jen is primarily responsible for managing Estelle's business affairs, and enjoys a generous salary.

2. Jen is allergic to chocolate.

3. As the hotel was fully booked, on the night of the crime, Estelle and Jen stayed on the 18th and 17th floors, respectively.

4. Marriage was a serious matter for Estelle. She would never promote such a scandal with Marius.

5. Estelle ate one piece of chocolate at 19:15. On the night of the crime, only she and Jen were in contact with the chocolates. It's impossible to determine if Marius opened the box of chocolates beforehand.

6. During the banquet, Jen left the venue twice. The first was at approximately 19:30, when Jen brought the chocolates to room 1818 to refrigerate them; she returned at 19:40. The second time was when she suffered an allergic reaction from the chocolate sauce incident; she cleaned up in room 1713 and returned at approximately 20:00.

7. During the banquet, Jen safeguarded Estelle's room card and phone the entire time.

8. On the night of the crime, Jen last saw Estelle when she got off the elevator on the 17th floor at approximately 21:00.

Theory 1:

Judging by the window of time to commit the crime, Jen could not be the one who poisoned the wine.

The hotel rooms were fully booked prior to the banquet. Therefore, Jen and Estelle stayed in different rooms on Floor 17 and 18 respectively.

Jen saw Marius off at 19:15, went to Estelle's room at 19:30, and returned to the banquet at 19:40.
