You: This prison fortress is like a maze.

You: If only I had the architectural blueprint for this place...

After the door is open, you turn on your flashlight and look around. All you see are sheer cliffs and a river running below.

According to the map, this prison was built into the side of a mountain. This door's passageway seems to lead into the mountain itself.

Vyn: The wooden planks have all rotted away from age.

With Vyn's flashlight, you see traces of rotten timber.

Vyn: This is of little concern. Let us take what we need and leave this bedroom.

You: Wait, Dr. Richter. I don't quite understand what you just said.

You: Isn't this a prison cell? What do you mean by bedroom?

Vyn: Zachary thought that it was a prison cell simply because we are in a prison, but he was incorrect.

Vyn: My guess is that this chamber was where the prison guards dwelled.

You: It really is bigger than the average cell, but... it doesn't look like a bedroom.

You: Why are there iron bars in a bedroom? Aren't those for prisoners?

Vyn: Take a closer look at this wall.

Vyn: There are yellow residual stains on the walls here, caused by the long-term presence of furniture.

Vyn: Looking at their heights, there was a bed by the secret door and a smaller wardrobe in the corner.

Vyn: To our right, there was perhaps a desk.

You: Even so, this could be a luxurious cell inside the prison.

Vyn: That would beg the question: if it were a luxurious prison cell, then why would there be iron bars to divide its space?

Vyn: If it were a cell for two prisoners, look at the wall over there — there are no traces of furniture having been placed.

Vyn: In conclusion, these bars were not meant for imprisonment, but for defense.

Vyn: Whenever there was a riot or a danger that could endanger the guards, these bars could hold back intruders.

Vyn: The guards could then open the hidden entrance and escape through this passage.

Vyn: If I am correct, then there should be a self-destruct mechanism in this escape route.

You: You deduced all of that from just a few stains? Dr. Richter, you're incredible.

Vyn: It was not purely because of those stains. I...

Vyn laughs while shaking his head. He then sighs.

Vyn: I went to similar castles in a historic country. These installations were commonplace.

Vyn: So, when I stepped into this room, I already knew the mystery of the chamber.

You: Worldly and knowledgeable, that's the Dr. Richter I know.

As you had expected from the beginning, traveling with Vyn has yielded many eye-opening experiences.

You: What did you mean by "take what we need"?

Vyn walks up to the bars and points to a feather-shaped carving among the scattered stones.

Vyn: Like that. I shall call it... Maat's feather.

You: Maat's feather? Isn't Maat the Egyptian goddess of truth and justice?

Vyn: Correct.

Vyn: According to legend, the ancient Egyptians believed that they receive Anubis' judgment when they die.

Vyn: The heart of the deceased is placed on a scale and weighed against Maat's feather.

You: I've heard this story before.

You: If the person's heart is heavier than the feather...

You: Then the demon Ammit would devour the heart and the deceased would lose their chance to enter the afterlife.

Vyn: Exactly.

Vyn: The skeleton with an Isis pendant next to its hand is likely that of the gang's second-in-command.

Vyn: However...

Vyn suddenly hesitates.

Vyn: Judging by the shape of the pelvis... This skeleton belongs to a female.

Vyn: I am not an expert in forensic medicine, so I cannot guarantee the validity of my assessment.

You: Female... I remember Mr. Wing mentioning on the cruise that the gang had a sole female member.

You: But I'm not sure if she was the second-in-command.

Vyn: Then we shall visit the topic later.

Vyn: Although Zachary did not find the gold, I do not believe that the riddle Joshua gave him is fake.

Vyn: Perhaps Joshua misinterpreted the riddle on purpose to distract Zachary?

Vyn: In that case, the item next to the second-in-command is likely related to the location of the gold.

Vyn: All the figures here demonstrate a unique style. The only one related to Egyptian mythology is...

Vyn: This half of a feather.

You take out a walking stick, nudge the feather carving to the front of the bars, and pick it up.

You: You said "half." Is it because of this serrated edge?

The feather carving is twice the size of your hand and is fairly heavy.

The feather is on one side, while the other side is sawtoothed like a puzzle.

Vyn: There should be another half to this feather.

Vyn: From its shape, it appears to be an ostrich's feather.

You: Ostrich! I remember that Maat is symbolized by an ostrich feather.

Vyn: That is why I suggested we bring along this figure and the Isis pendant.

Vyn: It is a pity... The Isis pendant is incomplete as well.

Vyn: In mythology, Isis wears a headdress shaped like a throne. This headdress on this pendant has broken off.

Vyn: What a pity it truly is. This pendant must have looked flawless whole.

You: Sometimes the charm of antiques lies in their flaws, which are decorations brought by time.

You: Dr. Richter, put the feather and pendant in my backpack.

You: They're just two small items, so leave them to me.

Vyn: Very well.

You: Now we need to figure out how to leave without any stairs.

You: Do we need to climb along the cliff?

Vyn: Do you remember what I said at the beginning of our journey? What my strengths in the outdoors are?
