Orphanage

There's still some time before the volunteer class, so you and Marius take a stroll through the orphanage.

Marius: The sun is a little bright. Let's rest in the shade here under the trees.

You: Okay. I didn't expect this orphanage to be so big...

Marius leads you over to the tree. As soon as you stop walking, a strong gust of wind blows in front of you.

You: Good thing it's summer... otherwise, that would have been cold.

Marius: ...

You: Hm? Marius, what are you laughing at?

Marius: Miss, there's a leaf in your hair.

You: The wind probably blew it. Where is it? I can't find it...

Marius: Don't move. I'll get it for you.

Orphanage

You: It's so lively over there.

Marius: Looks like the kids are running. I heard that they have a regular time slot for exercise.

You: This reminds me of my time in college... I often saw some schoolmates having their morning run on the field.

Marius: Me too. When I was studying in Florence, I even participated in our school's sprint league.

You: Oh? There's such a thing?

Marius: Yep, and I was our league's best sprinter.

Marius: How about I run for a round now, while you keep track of my run time?

You: No problem, I'll time you!

Orphanage

You: It looks like... birds are nesting up there.

Marius: Birds don't normally build their nests in places with lots of people around. If they chose this place, it must mean that the people here give them a sense of security.

Marius: Only people or things you are close to can give you a sense of security.

Marius: For me... my sense of security comes from you.

You: ...

You: Me too...

Orphanage

You: When I think about giving a speech in such a large auditorium later, I can't help but feel a little nervous...

Marius: Don't worry. Knowing how capable you are, you'll do a great job.

Marius: You explained our company meeting reports really well before.

You: The thought of... seeing the children looking at me, I get even more nervous...

Marius: Then why don't we practice again? I'll be your audience. Okay?

You: All right...

Marius: Don't worry. I'll always lend you my ear, no matter what.

Marius: Relax. You can practice in front of me.

You: Okay!

Orphanage

You: Looks like the projector is broken?

Marius: We aren't going to use it this time, but...

You: But I heard from the principal that the children's normal classes have also been affected since the projector is broken...

Marius: No worries. I've already contacted the staff at Pax.

Marius: Someone will be here in a few days to head a renovation of the orphanage's facilities.

You: That's great!

Orphanage

You: The breeze here feels so comfortable.

Marius: Yeah, the suburbs are cooler than the city.

You: From here, you can get a wide-sweeping view of the orphanage... It's so much bigger than I thought.

You: Hey, is there an... artificial lake outside the window?

Marius: Oh, yeah. I don't think we walked over there.

You: Wow, that bird flying over the lake... is it a swan?

Marius: If you want, we can go have a look.

Orphanage

You: I've been prepping for this class all day... My neck feels stiff...

Marius: How about I give you a massage?

You: But...

Marius: Trust me. My massage skills are top-notch!

You: Okay... thanks...

You: (Where did he learn how to give massages?)

You: Phew... class is finally over.

The law firm regularly conducts public welfare events. Today's event is a public speech at an orphanage.

You were invited to be the speaker this time and were worried that you wouldn't do well. However, the innocent, smiling faces of the children dispel your doubts.

You weren't the only speaking candidate this time, but you insisted on fighting for it. As for the reason...

You look up at the "other teacher" sitting on the lawn. A group of children surrounds Marius, scrambling to ask him questions about painting.

Marius: Don't rush, let's take turns.

As you look at the scene in front of you, the phrase "King of the Children" suddenly enters your mind. You burst out laughing.

Noticing your laughter, Marius looks over.

Marius: Why don't you guys invite that lady over to paint with us, okay?

A little girl nods at Marius' request, then runs to your side, tugging at your clothes...

You: (Asking a kid to invite me over... That's so devious of him.)

You look over at Marius again. His smile is willful and radiant. Looking at him, you can't help but smile too...

In the end, you agree and follow the little girl to Marius' side.

The sunlight shining through the tree branches casts a soft glow around Marius.

You sit down next to Marius and whisper in his ear.

You: You look so dedicated right now, like a model teacher.

You: How do you feel? You may not be a teacher, but you can still teach others... Do you like it?

Marius: Thank you for inviting me to come with you. You were so cool when you gave your public welfare speech just now.

You feel a bit proud upon hearing his compliment. Suddenly, a paper cup flies through the air, and you catch it without thinking.

Following the direction the cup came from, you see a little girl standing not far away, looking at you apologetically.

On her other side stands a little boy about the same age as her.

You: Wait a second! I'll bring the cup back over!

The boy and girl smile shyly at you.

But Marius looks at the two of them curiously.

Marius: What are they doing? Playing house?

You: Nope. It's... a paper cup phone activity. I played it when I was little too.

You: If I got in a fight with a friend or had something to confess but was too embarrassed to say it face-to-face, I could use it to express my true feelings.

You: Though it was a toy... but I actually think it acted as a tool that helped me speak from the heart!

Marius: I see...

Looking at his expression, you suddenly realize something.

You: Marius, wait here for me!

You stand up, run into the school, and borrow two paper cups from the principal.

You: I remember you're supposed to thread it through like this... There you go.

You run back out of the school and hand one of the cups to Marius.

Marius: What... what are you doing?

You: I'm calling you! Here, take it.

After he takes the paper cup phone, you sit down close by, clear your throat, then speaks into the cup.

You: Hi, excuse me, is little Marius there?

After being stunned for a few seconds, Marius immediately understands. He picks up the paper cup phone and responds to you with a smile.

Marius: Yes, that's me. Is this my future girlfriend speaking?

You: Yep!

Probably not expecting you to answer so frankly, Marius looks a bit amused.

You: This call might be a bit late, but please don't give up on your dreams, no matter what you encounter.

You: Whatever happens, I'll wait for you in the future. That's what I... want to say to you.

You: Do you have anything you want to say to me? Mr. Boyfriend?

Marius: I want to tell my girlfr— I mean, my future girlfriend... when you meet me in the future, please hold my hand tightly.

Marius: No matter what happens, I'll come to you. I will definitely find you and meet you.

As his tone gradually becomes more serious, you are in a momentary daze, unable to tell if he's pretending to be his younger self or not.

You look up and meet his eyes. At that moment, his voice travels into your ear from along the thread.

Marius: I will definitely overcome any obstacles to meet you. Before, now, and in the future.

You: Yeah, me too.

The sky is blue, and the sun shines softly on the both of you. You and Marius smile at each other while holding the paper cup phones...
