Luke "Orange Scent"/Rewards

Story Summary

Luke asks the MC to accompany him to visit his parents' graves. It's the anniversary of his parents' death, and he wants to tell them about his relationship with her. He sentimentally recalls his mom's favorite poem "Nach dem Fest" - "Whether it is the greatest good or the greatest evil — the poor soul loves it." "Whether it is pain or pleasure — it burns only for the sake of burning." His mom is someone who "burns" - she always gives her all and leaves no regrets. Meanwhile while they were cleaning his place, the MC finds a ring box. Luke dismisses it and says he just made it on a whim. The MC decides to visit Aaron Yishmir to ask about Luke. He reveals that the ring box is actually meant for her. Luke made a ring for 6 months under the tutelage of a famous jeweler. But he told him that he has decided not to propose to her because he thinks it will be selfish of him to do so. Luke claimed that he's already happy and content. Aaron is telling her about it because he thinks she deserves to know. Later, Aaron calls Luke on the phone and tells him that the MC asked about the ring box. Luke says that he will not change his mind.

On the agreed-upon date, Luke and the MC visit his parents' grave. Luke proceeds to talk to his parents and introduces her. As if avoiding something, Luke tries to conclude the visit early. She stays put and talks to his parents, too. She reveals that Luke is sick. But because of Luke, she became strong. She faces Luke and asks him if he's willing to seize every moment with her. Luke tells her he cannot make that promise. Revealing the tombstone he purchased for himself, he asks her what she would feel like standing before his tombstone. He doesn't want to shackle her future. She realizes that Luke just wants the most "stable" future for her and he wants to minimize her pain as much as possible. But what about his own feelings? She asks him to "burn" for himself, just this once.

The cemetery is about to close so Luke and the MC has to leave now. On their way home, they see a double rainbow. They reminisce about the double rainbow they saw in Nosta. Luke asked her back then "Next time, can you accompany me to more places in search of more miracles?" She tells Luke that her answer has remained the same - Yes. Suddenly, Luke's expression changes and he grabs her hand. They reach Luke's home fast. While Luke is in the bedroom, the MC tries to look for something to eat for dinner and finds a bottle of orange marmalade. Luke suddenly appears behind her, blushing from ear to ear. He acknowledges that he has always behaved like the "good kid" - he considers his own feelings less important than protecting her and her parents. But he has underestimated her determination and his own greed. So he is finally making this decision for himself. Luke gets down on one knee and asks her to allow him to become part of her family again. Luke reveals that he engraved "Dévouement" on the ring, which means "devotion" in French. After a kiss, Luke steps back and starts frowning again as if still hesitating. Playfully admonishing him for frowning, the MC smears some marmalade on his nose. Luke then plays back and smears marmalade on her as well. They kiss and after a while, she tells Luke that it feels like hugs and kisses are not enough to fill the distance between them. Luke then tells her that he'll clean her messy emotions up. In between kisses, the bottle of marmalade slips from the MC's hands.

Ring

Luke: I used to be afraid that a ring would just constrain you. That's why I was scared to take this step for the longest time.

Luke: But now, I think... this is the proof of our journey together. I will hold tightly on to your hand, for every dusk and dawn to come.

Band

Luke: Dévouement. It means "devotion" in French.

Luke: I chose this word for the engraving because I want to devote all that I have and all that I am to you. My love for you seeks no return.

Diamond

Luke: I cut the diamond myself, of course. It wasn't difficult—if you want to watch, I'll demonstrate it for you sometime.

Luke: Actually, I'd considered other gemstones as well. But after thinking it through, I still felt that diamonds held the best meaning.

Key

Luke: This part is a key. Doesn't it look a lot like the one you gave me? That key holds a lot of the memories between us.

Luke: I hope that this key will secure our future together, and we'll never be apart for the rest of our lives.
