Summary

Joshua Ott, having been caught in his lies, reveals all about the golden mask that is the true goal of his trip to Nosta. He says his former partner and lover, Janet Winton, created the riddle and split it into four parts but also told him the mask's location at the time of her death. Three of the four parts were given to the various participants in the expedition as a way to tempt them to come to Nosta so that Joshua could bribe, placate, or lure each of them. Luke finally reveals the purpose of his mission here: the mask was loaned to Stellis by the Egyptian government, and the NSB hopes to retrieve it to resolve the diplomatic crisis caused by Stellis having lost it to thieves.
