Vyn "Lingering Warmth"/Rewards

Story Summary

This story takes place in Year 1. Vyn is not yet in a relationship with the MC.

The main character meets Vyn for tea, noting the tea set reminds her of a recent magic show they'd seen together; she praises the magician, failing to notice that this upsets Vyn. In a flashback, she recalls the show from the previous weekend. During the show, the MC praised the performance as a work of art before she was introduced to the magician, a friend of Vyn's from Svart named Carl. Vyn tried to stay ambiguous about the nature of the relationship between himself and the MC, which caused Carl to divert his attention to the MC.

Carl openly flirted with the MC by showing her a few tricks and offering to explain his show. Vyn grew upset as the conversation continued, eventually interrupting when Carl offered the MC a rose; Carl pointed out that Vyn was not behaving like himself before instead gifting the MC a hair tie. The perspective returns to the present as the MC enthuses about the show once more, and Vyn grows quiet before deriding magic as nothing special, sparking a debate.

The debate on the merits of magic continues, with Vyn explaining some of the psychology that supports his view of magicians as simple deceivers while the MC argues their ability to bring illusion to life is a wondrous thing. As they debate, the MC steals Vyn's glasses to make a point about how perception and imagination interact. Vyn admits defeat but presses the MC to admit that the ability to see the truth of the human heart through any deception is even more profound.

Days later, Vyn calls to set up a meeting the following weekend to give the MC a gift. When she arrives at Stellis University that weekend, Vyn starts to offer the gift, but their interaction is interrupted by a university alumnus who needs help proposing to his girlfriend with a magic show in the woods behind the exhibition hall. The two agree to help, with the MC being the lead assistant.

After some practice and final checks over the scene, the magician's girlfriend, Rena, arrives. When the show begins, the MC assists with the magician's tricks with brief help from Vyn, and the proposal goes smoothly.

The magician apologizes for interrupting the date in progress, which flusters the MC. After the audience leaves, Vyn apologizes for his arrogance in their debate, saying that with some first-hand experience, he now has a better understanding of how great magicians can be. The MC asks for her gift, and Vyn admits he was going to perform a simple magic trick, but he's worried it will disappoint her after the grand proposal. She reassures him, and he performs the trick, gifting her a hair clip and stating he won't be outdone by anyone in front of her.

Vyn: You mean going shopping?

You: Yeah. Do you usually go out and shop around by yourself?

Vyn: Yes. I believe that you can only determine the value of the item after having seen it yourself.

You: No, I meant to ask...

You: Do you go out for walks? Just taking a stroll somewhere and the like?

Vyn: I sometimes look for a quiet place to walk around when I have spare time.

Vyn: Why? Are you asking me out for a walk?

Yeah. Take a walk with me

You: Yeah. I'd like to take a walk with you over the weekend and relax.

Vyn: What a coincidence, I was just thinking about doing the same.

Vyn: I was going to ask if you were free this weekend to go out with me.

No. I'm just randomly asking

You: Ah, no... I'm just curious.

You: You're normally so busy, so you probably don't have the time to go out with me...

Vyn: Why would I not have the time for you?

Vyn: I have been looking forward to going out with you.

Vyn: Well... since you were the one to extend the invitation, you get to pick where we go.

You: Let's go walk around in the Central Business District!

You: I need to go buy something!

Vyn: Sure. I know a really good dessert shop. We can go there if we get tired.

Vyn: Right, if you do not mind, can you also come with me to the Gardening Market?

Vyn: I want to see if there are new rose bushes there.

Gardening Market

You: Why don't we go to the Gardening Market!

You: You're always tending to the garden. You must be really interested in gardening, huh?

Vyn: Yes, I bought quite a few of the flowers in my garden from the Gardening Market.

Vyn: We can go and see if they have new rose bushes.

I happen to be learning about flowers

You: Alright. I've been wanting to learn about gardening from you too.

Vyn: No problem. I will tell you anything that you wish to know.

You: Alright, then it's set! I'll be looking forward to the weekend!

Vyn: Can I interpret what you just said as... you looking forward to being with me?

Vyn: I am just joking, you need not answer that.

Vyn: I will see you over the weekend. I look forward to every chance I can be with you as well.

Vyn: I saw you wearing the hair clip I gave you. It looks good on you.

You: Really? Thanks, Dr. Richter.

Vyn: I am very happy to see you wear it.

Vyn: I should be thanking you for not thinking that my magic trick was crude.

You're very skillful

You: It's all because of your amazing craftsmanship.

You: Not only can you make hair clips, but you can do magic tricks as well!

Vyn: I am glad you liked it. I was worried that you would think it crude.

Vyn: Oh, are you still interested in magic?

Vyn: I learned a few newer ones lately. I can show them to you.

You: You'll be able to compete with the work of other magicians soon enough.

Vyn: I doubt that. I am only learning the simple tricks.

Vyn: I merely added my own twist to it.

You: Are they not afraid of you becoming better than them?

Vyn: I did not learn it from anyone in particular.

Vyn: I just made some changes to the basic techniques.

Vyn: I am a long way off compared to the real magicians.

Vyn: Even if it is just a simple magic trick, I hope you will find it to be unique.

Vyn: That is why I came up with a few techniques of my own.

You: Now I think you're just trying to show off...

You: Dr. Richter, you're crushing me here...

Vyn: I did not mean to do that.

Vyn: I just wanted to give you a different kind of surprise. That is why I came up with my own techniques.

Vyn: The trick itself is not hard. If you are interested, I can teach it to you.

You: That would be great! I've always wanted to learn!

You: I'm not sure if I'll be able to learn it.

Vyn: You will do just fine.

Vyn: It was not too hard being my TA last time, was it?

Worried that I can't learn it

Vyn: Magic performances share a common ground with psychology. That is why I can pick it up so easily.
