Vyn "Mercury in Retrograde"/Rewards

Story Summary

This story takes place in Year 1. Vyn is not yet in a relationship with the MC.

The main character attempts to cancel an arranged meeting with Vyn due to a leak in her apartment. Vyn suggests he might be able to help, and the MC recalls an exhibition they went to the previous weekend, where they saw a malfunctioning cybernetics display whose operator offered to let the two help repair.

The MC recalls that at the previous week's exhibition, Vyn fixed one of the mechanical arms extremely quickly, so she thinks Vyn has a good chance of repairing the leak. Vyn arrives, directs the MC to close the main valve, and takes her to a local hardware store to get tools, but she notes he's unusually distracted by his phone on the way there.

Seeing that Vyn is very distracted and possibly not used to handy work, the MC suggests she doesn't mind waiting for maintenance; Vyn insists on helping her, not wanting her to view him as unreliable. The two buy a large toolbox and return to the MC's home, and Vyn begins work immediately but sends the MC away to deliver a planned apology to her downstairs neighbor. On her way out, she hears a voice from Vyn's phone, which he explains is a message from his assistant at the research center. She returns and finds Vyn completely absorbed in the repair.

As the MC leaves to make tea, Vyn searches for more repair tips online as none of the videos he's found so far have worked. Suddenly, the repair fails, causing water to burst from the pipe again; Vyn blocks the rush of water to keep the MC dry, soaking himself in the process. The MC apologizes, assuming she didn't close the water main properly, and Vyn apologizes in return, hopeful that he won't be removed from her list of people she can rely on for help so soon after being added to it.

After getting a spare jacket from his car, the MC sends Vyn to change and takes over mopping the kitchen, noting that he's not very good at household chores and probably hires help at home. Property management calls to let the MC know a handyman is on the way, and Vyn leaves, disappointed. The handyman notes her hot and cold lines are switched and chides her for trying to fix the problem herself. Vyn calls to arrange another meeting for the next day at a book club.

The next day, Vyn and the MC go to the book club; the MC picks out a book about the language of flowers, then finds Vyn choosing a book about basic home repair. She realizes Vyn doesn't know how to repair plumbing and was looking up online tutorials the previous day, which Vyn admits to and apologizes for after paying for their books. The MC reassures him that it's nice to see there are things even he doesn't know and that he's at the top of her help list in the future.

You: I suddenly have the urge for souffle cakes. But it's a hassle to make, isn't it...

Vyn: Of course not. Making desserts for you is something I greatly enjoy.

You decide.

You: Hmm... Why don't you decide?

Vyn: Alright. We will see what we are in the mood for when the day comes.

Vyn: Sometimes randomness can also be fun.

Vyn: What tea would you like with your dessert?

You decide!

You: You pick for me, Dr. Richter.

You: The tea you make are all very delicious.

Vyn: I am very happy to hear you say that.

I want Earl Grey milk tea

You: Some sweetened Earl Grey milk tea sounds good.

You: I'll put my diet on hold for the weekend!

Vyn: I guarantee you will be satisfied.

Vyn: I will see you next weekend.

Vyn: I have learned all the house maintenance techniques in the book.

Vyn: I have memorized all the techniques in the book.

Vyn: If I were a genius, then things would have been different that day.

Vyn: I was able to go through it quickly because it had to do with you.

You: Well... you do learn faster than everyone else.

Vyn: I am actually not that great at fixing things...

Vyn: But, I am willing to learn anything that has to do with you.
