The Heart's Exclamation I: West Hemingway Heights Street
Dr. Lloyd's Psychology Clinic

Stellis University - Hall (Day).png

Go to Dr. Lloyd's Psychology Clinic with Vyn.

Dr. Lloyd's clinic is located in an old residential building. The room and the equipment seem very basic. By the looks of it, this clinic only opened recently.

The nurse seems to know Jessie Ingram very well. She takes her into the consultation room.

You: I'll wait for you here. Let me know if you need anything.

Vyn: Yes, of course.

Vyn nods as he enters the consultation room with Dr. Lloyd.

As soon as they are gone, the nurse quickly comes up to you with a familiar expression on her face.

You: (This expression looks so familiar...)

You: (Oh, I know. Whenever Kiki hears gossip, she has the same expression on her face...)

You: (Is the nurse going to...)

Nurse in the Clinic: Excuse me, are you Dr. Richter's girlfriend?

You: Yeah, hi...

You: Do you know Vyn?

Nurse in the Clinic: Yes, Dr. Richter is Dr. Lloyd's teacher.

Nurse in the Clinic: Most of our patients were referred here by Dr. Richter. It is all thanks to him that our clinic has managed to stay in business for so long.

As she chats with you, you can't help glancing towards the consultation room.

You: (I wonder if Jessie was also referred by Vyn...)

You: (If she was...)

"BANG!"

Suddenly, you are startled by a loud sound from the consultation room.

You: !!!

Nurse in the Clinic: What happened? Dr. Lloyd, is everything all right in there?

Then comes a desperate high-pitched scream.

You: (Was that Jessie Ingram?)

Without hesitation, the security guard arrives just in time and breaks open the door, charging into the room.

You: Is everybody okay?

There are glass fragments scattered all over the floor. That was probably the source of the smashing sound.

Jessie Ingram is lying on the floor, crying.

Jessie Ingram: Why, why me? Why does everything bad always happen to me!?

Jessie Ingram: I'm such a loser! What's the point of living like this!?

Jessie Ingram: I... I can't even make a decision about ending my own life!!

You: Jessie...

You feel like you should say something, but seeing her agony leaves you at a loss for words.

Why is life so hard? Why is everything in life so frustrating? Why now? Just when her dream was about to be fulfilled...

Can anyone answer to these?

For a moment, everything is silent except for the sound of her wailing echoing in the room.

Eventually, Jessie Ingram regains her composure. Dr. Lloyd and the nurse help her up into her wheelchair.

Vyn, who was silent the whole time, cleans up the glass on the floor and squats down next to her.

Vyn: Ms. Ingram, your wounds will never heal if you keep them covered up.

Vyn: When you feel better, can we have a chat?

Vyn's voice is quiet and magnetic as if it has the power to smooth the ripples in one's emotions.

Dr. Lloyd: Yes, our treatment plan has been going so well.

Dr. Lloyd: Tell me what you think, just like before.

After the incident, Vyn and Dr. Lloyd become especially cautious with Jessie Ingram.

Not wanting to disturb the treatment, you approach the door to leave, but before exiting the room you turn around for one last look.

She is sitting quietly in the wheelchair with the sunlight shining on her skin. It's so pale that even the blood vessels on her neck are clearly visible.

Before realizing it, you subconsciously ask.

You: Is it because today is Pygmalion's first show in Stellis?

Hearing your question, she suddenly turns around and stares at you. Her eyes are dark and obscure.

Only then do you realize how inappropriate your question was.

You: Sorry... I...

Jessie Ingram: You're right.

You: !!!

Dr. Lloyd: But I thought you'd come to accept that. You even gave me tickets to Pygmalion.

Dr. Lloyd's words remind you of the two VIP tickets. You can't help glancing at Vyn.

He's frowning deeply as if he's thinking about something.

Jessie Ingram: Yes, I thought I had gotten over it...

Jessie Ingram: But when I saw the poster today, I realized I haven't really gotten over it.

Jessie Ingram: Whenever I picture someone else standing on that stage under the spotlight, instead of me...

Jessie Ingram: She can dance and twirl, and she gets all the applause and cheers...

Jessie Ingram: And what about me!?

Jessie Ingram suddenly raises the pitch and volume of her voice. It is so shrill that it pierces everyone's eardrums like daggers.

Jessie Ingram: I can't even stand up. I don't want to live anymore, but I can't even die...

She punches her own legs wildly, then tries to stand, even though it's obviously impossible.

Vyn quickly stops her before she harms herself again.

Vyn: ...

Jessie Ingram: Why? Why did you stop me? I'm useless anyway. I don't know why I'm still alive...

You: Ms. Ingram...

You: It is normal to feel pain and sadness.

You: But you shouldn't give up on the other possibilities. You shouldn't give up on starting a new life just because of this.

You: I am sure you understand that, don't you? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have come to seek help from Dr. Lloyd.

You walk up to her and hold her hand. You are shocked to find that it's freezing.

Jessie Ingram: New life?

Jessie Ingram: But I don't know what I can do anymore...

Jessie Ingram: I'm useless...

Jessie Ingram: For someone whose life is meaningless and insignificant, what's the point of living?

You: Don't say that. The meaning and significance of your life shouldn't be dictated by others...

You: You should seek it out for yourself. And you'll never find it by giving up and staying in one place.

You: You may be weakened in one area, but that doesn't mean you can't pursue other possibilities.

You never realized how powerful your words could be until they were said out loud.

When it comes to her grief, all you can do as outsiders is support her with unconditional encouragement and trust.

Jessie Ingram: Do you really think... I can do it?

You wonder if she's asking you or herself.

Dr. Lloyd tells the nurse to take Jessie to another consultation room for the time being. Then, he worriedly makes a suggestion to Vyn.

Dr. Lloyd: I thought Jessie was getting better. I even gave you the tickets to thank you.

Dr. Lloyd: Who would've thought things would end up like this...

Dr. Lloyd: She's now showing symptoms of social isolation and anomic suicide. It's extremely dangerous.

Dr. Lloyd: I believe we need to take tertiary prevention measures, which are beyond my capabilities...

Dr. Lloyd: In consideration of the patient's safety, I believe it's more appropriate for Jessie to be admitted to your psychological center.

Vyn frowns and remains silent for a while before giving a nod to Dr. Lloyd.

Vyn: I see. Please send her over.

He adjusts his glasses slightly. The tone of his voice sounds more relieved now.

Vyn: Darwin, I have seen her medical record. The treatment you gave her was fine. It is not entirely your responsibility that her condition has deteriorated.

Vyn: Do not be too harsh on yourself. We are doctors, not prophets.

As he finishes, Vyn takes your hand.

Vyn: Let us go.

You give him a nod. On your way out, you look back at Dr. Lloyd. He's still standing there silently, immersed in thought.

You: (They say doctors are like parents. It must be hard for him to see his patient like that.)

Return to the psychology center with Vyn.

After returning to the research center, you sit on a couch in Vyn's office, watching him organize Jessie's medical records.

You: (Vyn seems to be acting strange...)

You: (I should just ask him directly, rather than making wild guesses...)

A medical file drops down beside Vyn's feet with a dull thud.

Vyn takes a deep breath, then reaches out with his fingers.

Vyn: Ouch...

Then you notice a few small cuts on his hand.

You: Oh no, did you cut yourself on the shards of glass back there?

Vyn: Yes, I accidentally cut myself when I was trying to stop Jessie.

Vyn's fingers are long and slender, making the cuts appear even harsher.

You: Vyn...

Vyn: Fret not, it does not hurt...

You: I don't believe you. Wounds on the fingers are the worst!

You: Let me get a first-aid kit from the nurse to treat your wounds, okay?

Vyn looks at you and his fingers, then he reveals an innocent smile.

Vyn: Okay, I will wait for you here.

Go ask the reception nurse where the first-aid kit is.

You: Excuse me, where can I find a first-aid kit? Vyn has a few cuts on his fingers, and I want to dress them.

Front Desk Nurse: Here you go... I can help if you want.

You: It's alright, I'll do it myself. Thanks though.

Dress Vyn's wounds.

You drag Vyn to a sofa and sit him down, then you open the first-aid kit.

You: The antiseptic might hurt. Bear with me.

Vyn: All right.

As you disinfect his wounds, Vyn's brow doesn't even twitch.

You: Okay. Keep it dry for a few days.

Vyn: Yeah...

You: What's up?

He puts his bandaged hand on top of yours. Not wanting to touch his wounds, you dare not move and only look up at him.

Vyn stares at you as if there's a golden vortex in his eyes.

Vyn: The things you told Jessie earlier...

Vyn: Did you really mean it, or were you just trying to comfort her?

His fingers tenderly caress the back of your hand. They feel slightly cold.

You: Why do you ask...?

Vyn: Most people would agree with Jessie... As a ballerina, when you lose the ability to even stand...

Vyn: She said that she is "useless" and does not see the point of living... It may sound pessimistic...

Vyn: But the world is a cruel place and unfortunately, survival of the fittest is a law of nature.

You: But for us human beings, who gets to decide who is fit and who isn't?

You: So, just because she has a problem with her leg, are we going to treat her like she's...

You feel uncomfortable finishing this sentence.

You: Like she is "inferior" to everyone else?

Vyn: ...

Hearing your response, Vyn puts on that same expression again.

The expression he had when he saved Jessie.

You: (Vyn...)

A knock on the door disrupts your train of thought.

Vyn: Come in, please.

Front Desk Nurse: Hello Dr. Richter, Ms. Ingram would like to see you.

The nurse comes in and looks at you with hesitation.

Front Desk Nurse: And... Ms. Ingram specifically asked for Miss [Player] to be present as well.

Front Desk Nurse: She said she wants Miss [Player] to participate in the rest of her treatment.

You: What? Me?

You are shocked by Jessie's request, but Vyn just nods as if he's not surprised at all.

Vyn: Noted, but we need to discuss this first.

Front Desk Nurse: All right.

The nurse nods and makes her exit.

Vyn: [Player], I already know that you will say yes...

Vyn: But first, I must inform you of the potential risks involved.

You: Risks?

Vyn looks at his injured hand.

Vyn: Right now, Jessie has a strong tendency to self-harm. Although she will only try to harm herself, she may hurt others by accident as well.

Vyn: I know you do not mind going into uncertain and dangerous situations...

Vyn: But I can not help worrying about you. I am worried that you may get hurt because of me.

Countless scenes from the past flash before your eyes. You think about all the times when you were put in danger...

Vyn would always stand in front of you and be there for you...

He never backs down. But right now, he's distressed and scared.

You: I won't...

You: Jessie probably asked for me because she feels touched by what I said...

You: Isn't that a good sign?

You: The things you're worried about might not happen at all.

You put your other hand on top of Vyn's in an attempt to show your determination with the warmth from your body.

You: And I am also glad that I can be of help.

You: No matter what, I know you'll always be by my side. That will never change.

You: And I will always stand by your side, even when it's dangerous. As long as we are in it together, I have nothing to be afraid of.

Vyn: [Player]...

Vyn: Okay, let us do it together.
