You: Hmm? This is...

Leaning against Vyn's couch, you casually flip open a photo album on the coffee table.

Almost all the photos in the album are landscape shots. They were taken at random angles and seem to be shot spontaneously without much thought.

The subjects of some of the photos are very unusual. You wonder why Vyn took photos of those things.

You: Dr. Richter, when did you take all these photos?

Vyn: Whenever I see something I like, I take a picture of it.

Vyn hands you a hot cup of tea and sits down next to you.

You: Things you like?

What exactly... does he like?

Confused, you continue to flip through the album.

You: Hey, isn't this the Themis office?

Pointing at the photo, you glance at Vyn. It's a picture of a window with a reflection of the sunset.

Vyn: Well, I took this while I was waiting for you downstairs at your office.

Vyn: I guessed that this window must be the one you look at the most from your desk, so I kept it as a memento.

You: A memento?

Vyn: I call it "Waiting for My Girlfriend to Leave Work."

You: Wow, I had no idea.

Vyn: Well, when I took this picture... I could not help thinking that maybe you were looking out the window at that precise moment.

Vyn: I liked that idea of coincidence, so I kept it.

You: ...

Hearing what he said, you begin to realize that all the photos in this album are inextricably linked to you in one way or another.

There is the sunset you saw while walking in the park with Vyn and the signature dish of a restaurant you once visited.

These are all memories that you've shared together in the past.

You: You took these photos because...

Vyn: Yes, because they're related to you, and I want to cherish them.

Vyn touches the photos gently. There is a warm smile lingering on his lips.

You flip through the photo album as you chat, eventually turning to the last page.

You: Is that all? Oh...

Vyn: What is it?

You: Didn't you notice? There aren't any photos of the two of us together.

There are only things related to you in this album, with no traces of Vyn at all.

...The album seems to be missing something. When you reach the end, you can't help but feel a little disappointed.

Vyn: A photo of us... like this one?

Vyn takes out his cell phone and shows you a selfie of the two of you in the theater.

In the photo, Vyn is holding your shoulder and smiling gently.

You, on the other hand, have your head lowered, as if you are fiddling with something in front of your chest.

You: This is...

It must have been taken when you were waiting for the musical to start.

At the time, you did suggest that Vyn could take a selfie, but...

You: This... doesn't count!

You: I'm not even looking at the camera!

You: Geez, what was I doing? Why did I have to look down at that exact moment...

Vyn: If I remember correctly, you were adjusting your brooch.

Vyn: The musical started as soon as I took the selfie, so you never mentioned it again.

You: Come to think of it, we were rushing to get into the theater, so we didn't take the selfie again.

You: *sigh* What a pity...

You can't help feeling a hint of regret for missing such a great opportunity. Vyn pats your hand softly to comfort you.

Vyn: What about the brooch? I remember seeing you adjust it a lot that day. Was there a problem with it?

You: Don't worry, it was nothing.

You: I checked it after going home that day. The pin was loose, so I fixed it.

Vyn: That is good to hear.

You: It's such a beautiful brooch. I have to take good care of it!

You: I also wanted to get a jewelry box for it. I looked at a bunch on the internet, but I couldn't really find a perfect one...

Vyn: How about we go to the shopping mall the next time we have a day off?

Vyn: There is no need to rush, I am sure we will eventually find the perfect one.

Vyn takes a sip of his tea. You look at him, and an idea forms in your head.

You: Why don't you give me some recommendations, Vyn?

Vyn: Rather than asking me... what do you think this jewelry box should look like?

You: Um... let me see...

Simple

You: The brooch itself is already very beautiful... So I would rather keep the jewelry box simple.

You: But I don't think the jewelry box should be completely plain. It just needs some small designs that match the brooch.

You: Do you think... I'm too picky?

You: After all, it's just a jewelry box, but I've been indecisive for so long.

Vyn: Why? It is perfectly normal psychological behavior to want a fitting match for the things you like.

Antique

You: Hmm, I'd prefer an antique-style jewelry box.

You: But I'm not sure... what exactly it should look like.

You: Oh, am I being too abstract?

Vyn: Of course not.

Vyn: I agree with you. I think an antique-style jewelry box would fit the idea of "Eternal Love" the most.

He gently touches your fingertips and slowly slides his fingers down to your palm, interlocking his hand with yours.

His gesture seems to reiterate the "fit" he mentioned.

You: I remember that we were originally going to see the musical "Pygmalion" that day.

You: But for some reason or another, it was replaced with "The Phantom of the Opera" instead, and so much happened afterward.

You: Now that I think about it, it really was a pity...

Vyn: It was a bit disappointing...

He picks up the teapot and pours hot tea for you both.

Behind the steam from the tea, he pushes up his glasses as if remembering something and turns to look at you.

Vyn: George Bernard Shaw wrote the script of "Pygmalion" based on Greek mythology and the play was later made into the Pygmalion film, also known as "My Fair Lady."

Vyn: To make up for missing out on the play, how about we watch the film?

Vyn: I happen to have the special edition DVD at home.

You: Sure, let's watch it together!

Vyn: Give me a minute. I will get the projector ready.

A few minutes later, Vyn finishes setting up the equipment and comes to sit with you on the couch.

In the pouring rain, the story of the Pygmalion film slowly unfurls.

George Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion" may share the same name as the Greek myth, but its plot is completely different.

The original story is a beautiful romantic comedy, while "My Fair Lady" is a tragedy.

The flower girl, Eliza, meets the phonetician, Higgins, who changes her fate for the better, but she was unaware that it was all just a gamble.

She was not a gift from god, not Galatia, but a clown trained by Higgins.

Eliza, who learned the truth, finally left in anger, but she had nowhere to go.

You: ...

As Eliza leaves, Higgins is left with sorrow. As the film comes to an end, you still feel somewhat unsatisfied.

Vyn: You seem a little unhappy.

You: A little. After all, I used to think of Pygmalion as a comedy. I never knew...

You: It could also be interpreted in such a sad way.

Vyn: The best thing about Pygmalion is that it can be interpreted from many different angles.

Vyn: George Bernard Shaw was reflecting on the tragic experience of a certain social class using the story of a flower girl.

You: And what about you? How do you see it?

Vyn: Me? It is very hard for me to not look at it from a professional perspective.

Vyn: My interpretation might sound boring to you.

You: You're just making me even more curious.

Vyn's answer piques your curiosity. You gently grab his arm and shake it.

You: Come on Dr. Richter, tell me, please.

Vyn: In psychology, there is a theory called the Pygmalion effect.

Vyn: It refers to the mental state in which people tend to perform better when they are motivated.

Vyn: So when we were watching the movie, other than the plot...

Vyn: I also paid attention to how Higgins applied this technique in Eliza’s transformation.

You: I didn't know about that theory. I see...

You: In the law firm, whenever Kiki tries to slack off...

You: Celestine gives her an encouraging look, and she suddenly feels energized...

Vyn: Precisely, that is a perfect example. Well done.

Vyn looks at you with a smile, not hiding his admiration.

You: Is that how you treat me as well?

Vyn: Hmm?

You: ...

You: I think you treat me the same way. You're always very straightforward with your praise and appreciation for me.

Vyn: Do you not like it?

You: Hmm, it's not that I don't like it...

You: (Aren't we talking about Pygmalion? Since when did I become the subject of the conversation...?)

Vyn: I have never tried to manipulate you using psychological techniques.

Vyn: Everything I say is genuinely what I want to tell you at that very moment.

Vyn: And...

He gets even closer, so close that you can hear his heartbeat — although there is no way to distinguish his from yours.

Vyn: You are perfect the way you are. I have never felt that you needed to change.

Vyn: I like you just the way you are.

All of a sudden, you feel a gentle kiss brush against your eyelid.

You: !!!

Vyn: My apologies. I cannot help myself when you look at me like that...

The kiss was as light as a dragonfly skimming the water's surface, but it made ripples in your heart.

Vyn gently touches your face, as if trying to gauge his influence on you.

Just when you think he is about to do something, Vyn retracts his fingers and lets out a soft chuckle.

Vyn: [Player], are you interested in Pygmalion?

You: Yeah...

He changes the subject subtly, allowing you to regain your composure.

You: Yeah, it's really interesting and thought-provoking.

You: The more we talk about it, the more I feel like we should watch the musical.

You: Vyn, are you going to take responsibility for making me experience these symptoms?

Vyn: Are you... flirting with me?

He looks at you with a smile, and before you can answer, he playfully taps the tip of your nose.

Vyn: I have to admit, it feels good.

Vyn: Although the musical has already ended, I know that the Pygmalion ballet is currently being performed at the Stellis Theater.

Vyn: How about you allow me to redeem myself?

You rub the tip of your nose where Vyn just touched, and the disappointment in your heart is replaced with anticipation. You give Vyn a nod.

You: Okay, let's do it!

You take out your phone to search for the ballet performance's schedule.

You: Let me check when the next show will be...

Vyn: No need, I watched it not long ago.

Vyn: I remember that today's performance will start in two hours. If we leave right now, we should be able to make it.

With that, he pulls two tickets out of nowhere and hands them to you.

You: Eh?

You: (It was only a causal suggestion, why does Vyn have the tickets already?)

Before you can ask him, an abrupt ringtone interrupts you.

Vyn's eyebrows furrow the moment he sees the caller ID.

He looks at you with slight hesitation.

You: You should answer the phone. I'll wait for you here.

Vyn: Okay, I will be back soon.

Vyn picks up his phone and walks toward the study.
