After the Enchanted Trail and the Root Carving Art Museum, you two animatedly head towards the canoeing spot.

But before you can get close, a plume of thick smoke bursts into your face from the thickets, causing you to cough.

You: *cough* ... Fire!?

Marius: Yeah, someone's burning something in the forest!

Mangroves grow by muddy banks in wet environments, so it is not likely that this is a natural fire.

It is obvious that someone deliberately set a fire.

Marius: I'll go tell the staff first, and then we can go investigate together.

You: Okay!

The grass and shrubs all show signs of fire damage. The further you go, the more suffocating the smoke becomes.

In the chaos, you see a group of people gathered together.

Some are setting the grass and shrubs on fire with their torches, while others are cutting off branches with axes or clearing debris.

You: What are you all doing?!

Your voice catches their attention. A man steps out to approach you.

Indigenous Leader: We're farming.

Marius: My friend, it doesn't look like it. You're clearly setting fire to the forest and cutting down trees.

As soon as Marius finishes, some of the others begin to loudly shout.

Indigenous Person A: Get rid of them!

Indigenous Person B: Right, right. What would outsiders know? Get out of here!

[Debate]

Debate success

Indigenous Leader: There's a reason behind our actions. Outsiders, I suggest that you stick to your own business.

The man's tone is very casual, as if cutting down aged trees is as routine as weeding a garden.

Unacceptable. You can't give in so easily!

After some thought, you decide to say something to stall for time until the staff arrive.

Reason for burning the forest

You: You can't tell us your reason?

Marius: Please share your story with us. We want to understand.

Indigenous Leader: You sure are some annoying outsiders!

Annoyed by your questions, he puts down his tools and starts to explain.

Indigenous Leader: Planting mangroves here is a waste of such huge land. It would be better to use this area to grow parrot flowers!

Parrot flowers

You: Y—You want to grow parrot flowers!?

Isn't the parrot flower the rare plant that some of Pax's researchers discovered not too long ago?

From his expression, Marius is as astonished as you are.

However, he quickly changes it to a professional smile.

Marius: What kind of flower is that...? Why haven't I heard of it?

Indigenous Leader: It is Tambyani's divine flower. Eating its petals will cure you of all disease and give you lifelong health.

Marius: If I eat it, I'll never get sick again?

Indigenous Leader: Yes. That's why it's called a divine flower. Outsider, would you like to buy some and try?

Marius: Sure. How much?

As expected of Marius. His manner and tone perfectly encapsulate the air of an oblivious and simple tourist.

The man gradually lets down his guard and becomes more amicable.

Indigenous Leader: Prices are negotiable for friends!

Indigenous Leader: We have our own flower field elsewhere. How about I take you there and show you?

Flower field's location

Marius: Where's this flower field? Can I get a discount if I buy in bulk?

Indigenous Leader: Hah, don't worry about that! We have a whole field of parrot flowers in the Imana Rainforest. There won't be any shortage of supplies!

Indigenous Leader: As for a discount... That depends on how much you purchase.

You: (If I keep asking, these people probably will take us to their flower fields to see their product.)

You've stalled for a long time; staff should be arriving soon.

You secretly tug on Marius's sleeve, hinting that he should stop. Receiving your hint, he turns his head and winks at you.

Indigenous Leader: Enough talk. Are you two buying parrot flowers?

Marius: I've given it serious thought... I don't think this is reliable.

Marius: Plus, before you get all excited about doing business, I suggest you consider the environment first.

Indigenous Leader: What?!

From somewhere close by, you hear the faint sound of sirens and rolling wheels.

Seeing their plan ruined, the people all look very angry.

Indigenous Leader: You outsiders are so annoying!

However, their renewed indignation proves futile, as staff and police quickly arrive and bring the situation under control.

This incident has come to an end, at least for now.

Debate failure

Indigenous Leader: Cease your words. Outsiders, it's best if you mind your own business.

You: ...

You: (Calm down, calm down... Think of another way to persuade him!)
