Tambyani - Rainforest (Day).png

Indigenous Leader: I'm warning you: don't touch our parrot flowers or there'll be trouble.

Akha: I've tried to tell you all so many times. What you're growing are not parrot flowers!

Indigenous Leader: It's true just because you say it? Why should we listen to you?!

Indigenous Leader: You outsiders just want to get rid of us so you can grow flowers and make money with the villagers in the forest!

Akha: You people always act so aggressively towards us. How are we supposed to discuss this with you?

Indigenous Leader: We don't want to talk with you! Get lost, now!

As soon as you enter the Imana Rainforest village, you hear shouts arising from a dispute.

You: Akha? He's fighting with the people we ran into yesterday?!

Marius: Oh, what a coincidence... We come to the Imana Rainforest and immediately run into them.

Indigenous Leader: All you scientists do is talk nonsense day in and day out! How else can we make a living?!

Seeing them cut down trees so relentlessly, you and Akha go up and try to stop them.

You: Logging and burning rainforests are serious crimes. Please stop immediately!

Indigenous Leader: You guys again? You outsiders are so annoying!

[Debate]

Debate success

Indigenous Leader: What we do has nothing to do with you, outsiders!

Because he failed to argue with you, the man starts to glare and shout at you in a rage.

You already prepared yourself to debate with him, but the disturbance fortunately roused the attention of nearby villagers...

More and more people come to intervene, so the group has no choice but to resentfully leave.

They don't seem hurried, as if they are already used to this.

Akha: Mr. von Hagen, Miss [Player], thank you two for your help.

Seeing Akha's grim face... You can tell that what happened today has been troubling him for a long time.

People of the burned rainforest

You: What's going on with these people? We also ran into them yesterday...

You tell Akha about what happened yesterday. After he hears your story, his face grows serious.

Akha: They are a group of people that live near Napo Jungle.

Akha: They somehow heard about the parrot flower's medicinal effects, so they've started growing them for profit.

Akha: But the problem is that the plants they're growing aren't even parrot flowers!

Akha: I've explained to them many times, but they don't believe me. They think I'm trying to stop them from making better lives for themselves...

Truth of the fake flower

Marius: So what exactly is the flower they're planting?

Akha: It's a common rainforest flower called the parrot plant. It doesn't have any medicinal value.

Akha indignantly points at a large, empty plot in front of him.

Akha: The worst part is that they think growing flowers requires a large amount of land, just like growing wheat or corn...

Akha: That's why they keep cutting down trees in the rainforest for more land.

Akha: Look. All of this used to covered in vegetation, but now it's completely bare...

You: (So this is the large flower field in Imana Rainforest that they mentioned yesterday.)

Indigenous residents' agenda

You: Why are they doing this...?

Akha: To try and make a better life for themselves, of course.

Akha: They generally rely on mining, excavating, and simple handicrafts to make ends meet.

Akha: After hearing that parrot flowers are valuable, they began to plant them in the hopes that they would lead to a better life.

Akha: However, given that what they are planting aren't parrot flowers, not only will this not work out economically, but it'll damage the rainforest's ecosystem and detract from local resources.

Akha: If the rainforest's ecosystem becomes unbalanced, it will be a catastrophic blow to the whole of Tambyani.

Reason for entering the forest

You: Akha, what brought you here?

Akha: Ah, I came because I received a call for help from a colleague in Shanya the other day.

Akha: He found some oddly shaped vines in Imana Rainforest and asked me to come and gather information on them.

Akha: I didn't expect to run into those people after coming, though...

Akha: They cut down all the vines we had marked when we weren't watching! Seriously...

Akha looks very upset and keeps sighing.

Akha: The villagers from the rainforest also helped me try to persuade them several times, but it never worked.

Akha: I'm planning on staying in the village for two days to patrol with the villagers and prevent people from damaging the rainforest again.

Marius: This is a real headache...

You: If only we could find a way to resolve this.

You can tell that Akha has been very worried about that group of people lately.

However, patrolling is merely a temporary measure. It'll likely take a long time to truly resolve this situation.

Debate failure

Indigenous Leader: I don't care what you all say. I won't listen to you anyway.

You: (Hmm... What should I do?)

You: (Calm down, relax... Let me think of other ways to convince him!)
