After the off-road jeep adventure, you take Luke to the grass weaving area to challenge his handicraft skills.

With the weaver's detailed explanation and the help of Luke's exceptional dexterity...

In just one hour, an exquisite straw necklace is complete.

You: Luke, Luke, what do you think of my handiwork?

Luke: Beautiful. Straw necklaces are very unique. It matches the savanna perfectly.

Luke: Well, why don't you put it on? I'll take a couple of shots for you!

Just as you're about to agree, the weaver shakes her head from the sidelines.

Handicraftsman: Would you like to choose a pendant to go with the necklace?

Handicraftsman: The diamonds in Tambyani are mined by the natives here. It's both affordable and very stunning.

This necklace is already beautiful in its own right without the addition of a pendant.

The weaver probably only mentioned it to earn a little more cash.

You: Thank you, but I think...

You are just about to decline her offer when you suddenly think of something.

People like her, who deal with jewelry every day, should be well-informed about the information circulating in the gem industry, right?

Maybe she'd know something about "golden diamond."

Luke: Hi. May I ask you a few questions?

As expected, Luke has the same idea. He asks before you do.

Handicraftsman: Sure. Go ahead.

Golden Diamond

Luke: You said Tambyani's diamonds were all dug out of mines by the natives themselves...

Luke: So... Have they ever dug up a large golden diamond?

Luke uses his fingers to give a rough approximation of the diamond's size. The weaver seems shocked.

Handicraftsman: There's no way such a large diamond exists. You're kidding, aren't you?

It looks like she's clueless about it... You ponder for a brief moment before deciding to change the subject.

You: How many large diamond mines are there in Tambyani?

Handicraftsman: Just one. Kulu Mine. It's in the northern part of the Amma Savanna and it's the largest mine in all of Tambyani.

Handicraftsman: The diamonds we use for pendants here are bought from the Kulu Mine.

Mining Facility

You: The Kulu Mine's mining facility... must be pretty big, right?

Handicraftsman: Yes. It's also the biggest mining facility in Tambyani.

Handicraftsman: Many of the indigenous people in Amma Savanna work there. In fact, they depend on it for a living.

Handicraftsman: The life of a miner is... not an easy one...

Handicraftsman: *Sigh* If not for the money, neither one of them would be willing to do such risky work.

You: Risky?

Miner

You: Why is it risky?

Handicraftsman: Ugh. Well, that all boils down to how they treat the workers. They're always pushing miners to work overtime...

Handicraftsman: One of my friends works there, and he said that there was a protest some time ago.

The protest

You: A protest? Why?

Handicraftsman: I wasn't given the nitty-gritty about it, but I suppose it was largely due to the pay.

Handicraftsman: *Sigh* That mine always deducts workers' wages at a drop of the hat, which enrages the miners, of course.

Recent situation of the miners

You: How is your friend? Did he suffer any drawbacks from it?

Handicraftsman: He was definitely going through a rough patch in life. I hear he got injured and is now recuperating at home.

You: Is your friend one of the indigenous people here?

Handicraftsman: He is. His name is Gerry. He lives in a village barely a stone's throw away from Tambyani National Park.

Handicraftsman: You may come across him if you go to Tambyani National Park.

Diamond Sales

You: Does the mine sell diamonds directly to the public?

Handicraftsman: Yes. Kulu Mine has its own sales channels.

Handicraftsman: Vendors at scenic spots like this have it easy when getting goods from the mines.

Handicraftsman: Well, you've asked a good many questions, so how about choosing a pendant?

You: Hmm, let me see...

The weaver doesn't seem interested in saying anymore and awkwardly changes the subject.

Hence, you casually pick out a simple pendant and leave the straw weaving zone with Luke.
