Marius "Fabulous Feast"/Rewards

Story Summary

This story takes place in Year 1. Marius is not yet in a relationship with the MC.

The MC is picked up from her home by Vincent Kim to attend a high-end charity auction hosted by Pax. Vincent describes the symbolism on Marius' formal attire for the evening as he drives. At the auction site, the MC overhears several guests speaking poorly of Marius and his intentions. Vincent dismisses the talk as common, then leads her in to see Marius, who is accosted by old acquaintances with eligible daughters on his way to meet the MC.

Marius meets up with the MC and is taking her to get food when a power outage occurs. When the backup generators power on, a guest faints and has a seizure; both Marius and the MC rush to deliver first aid, with Marius injured in the process. In the aftermath, Marius is approached by Mr. Darby, one of the guests who was slandering Marius when the MC arrived. The two head to a guest room at the resort to deal with Marius' injury and the clothing stains they sustained while saving the guest.

The MC cleans the stain off her dress, then disinfects Marius' wound. Vincent Kim informs Marius that one of the auction items, a jade hairpin, was stolen during the blackout. Marius and the MC question the prime suspect, a waiter; the waiter eventually confesses that Mr. Darby had put him up to stealing it. The waiter also confirms Marius' suspicion that the now-recovered hairpin has been switched for a fake, which Marius believes is to make Pax suffer consequences for hosting an auction of fraudulent goods.

Marius laments his perceived inferiority to his missing brother. When it comes time to auction the hairpin, Marius interrupts the auction, giving Mr. Darby an excuse to return it as if it had been an accident. When Mr. Darby is revealed to have the hairpin, Marius announces that the man had liked it so much he'd offered to pay ten times its value for charity. Mr. Darby tries to reveal it as a fake, but Marius' charm and flattery traps him into paying for it anyway. As the event ends, Marius begins to feel the effects of the night's alcohol while dealing with more unwanted social matters.

As the MC debates whether to interject and pull Marius away from his unwanted guests, Vincent reveals the hairpin was meant to be a gift for her. Making her decision, she pulls him away from his conversation and suggests they escape from the venue.

Still being chased by guests who want Marius' attention, the two escape to a neighboring amusement park. The MC catches the attention of a boy who wants to take his newfound princess away in exchange for his ice cream, and Marius gets jealous of the child. He tries to buy her ice cream instead, but the two realize they've left their belongings at the auction. The MC, thinking about the jade hairpin, tells Marius that he doesn't have to give her anything, but Marius tells her that she's already won the most valuable auction item -- Marius himself, whose attention everyone wanted. A few days later, Marius arrives at the MC's neighborhood driving an ice cream truck to make up for his inability to get her ice cream after the auction.

Marius: Evening. What's wrong? You look surprised.

Marius: Yeah, I'm actually not in Stellis right now. For the next two days, I'll be inspecting a town that my charity donated to. I'm at a local hotel.

Marius: I have dark circles around my eyes? Probably because I didn't sleep well last night.

Marius: Ah, not because I'm not used to it here. The bedsheets weren't properly washed, so I got some rashes on my back.

Marius: Don't worry, I went to the hospital and got some ointment, and all my sheets were specially changed out.

Marius: ...Yeah, this trip's been hard on me. I'll need some high-quality care and comfort from you when I get back.

Marius: It wasn't all for nothing, though. When I went to the town's old street, I found something interesting. Wanna take a guess?

Marius: A sandalwood hairpin that was hand-made by a resident. I heard that the locals attached a particularly wonderful meaning to it.

Marius: ...You want to know? I'll tell you when I get the chance.

Marius: Earlier, you said that what matters isn't the gift, but the thought behind it. Well, I only listened to half of that.

Marius: Thoughts are only meaningful if they're properly delivered. Otherwise they're just pretty lies, right?

Marius: ...A gift in return? There's no need for something like that.

Marius: Besides, all the experiences and memories you've given me are priceless gifts. I don't think it'd be enough even if I gave myself to you as a present.

Marius: It's late. Go get some rest. Me? I have a video conference later. I'll sleep after work's settled.

Marius: I'll be back soon, and the first thing I'll do is go see you. Wait for me.
