Marius "All Through the Night"/Rewards

Story Summary

This story takes place in Year 1. Marius is not yet in a relationship with the MC.

While relaxing at home late at night, the MC hears a suspicious beeping sound outside her door. Her surveillance monitor reveals an unknown man seems to be trying to break her digital lock. Recalling a news report about a string of break-ins, she immediately hides and calls the police. Overcome by fear, she also calls Marius, who immediately rushes over and arrives shortly after the police. The police caution that the burglars probably targeted her due to her frequent overtime, and they ask Marius to look after her for a few days in case they try again. The police leave, and as Marius excuses himself to get a hotel across the street, the MC stops him and asks him to stay.

Marius agrees to sleep over on the condition that the MC goes somewhere with him the next day. She agrees, and the next day he insists that she stay at his home until the suspects are apprehended. When the MC resists, Marius reminds her that she'd promised, and that she'd be leaving him to spend New Year's Eve alone if she refused. Marius brings her to his estate in Orchidshine, introducing her to Payton Way, the family butler. Marius suggests Payton can rest while the two of them handle unknown preparations, but Payton resists until Marius insists. Marius then suggests the two of them make noodles together, which they do while joking about opening a noodle shop.

Having made too many noodles, Marius freezes some; he reveals that he wasn't entirely joking about investing in a noodle shop for the MC, trying to show her that there's a backup plan for her if she ever needs one. The two spend the evening watching horror movies as the clock strikes the new year.

Unable to sleep at 2 AM, the MC walks around the estate. She finds a bottle of Payton's home-brewed raspberry wine and pours a glass, hoping it will help her sleep, but the wine is so good that she drinks most of the bottle and falls asleep on the living room sofa. Marius comes in from outside, finds her, and tries to carry her back to her room, but in her extremely drunken state, she insists on walking on her own. She stumbles to Marius' room to look for him and apologize for troubling him, not believing the man beside her is the real Marius. When she falls on the floor, the two end up in a dangerous position; Marius asks if she likes him, but she falls asleep before answering.

The next day, the MC apologizes for getting drunk; Marius claims she'd only fallen asleep on the sofa and not caused any trouble. Late that night, she looks for him again, curious where he'd gone the previous night. Payton finds her and says that although he's unable to tell her where Marius is, he can give her a picture book that Marius drew as a child, which leads her to the forest. She finds Marius at an ancestral hall in the forest, where he speaks of how he used to feel responsible for his mother's death. While she leads him out of the forest, he reveals the thieves have been caught and her security system will receive an upgrade, so he can let her go home the next day.

In the morning, Marius makes noodles to offer flour for his ancestors; Payton objects to the MC's involvement in this tradition since she's an outsider, but Marius counters that even Payton can see she's not an outsider. Later, the MC realizes she's intruded on an important tradition, but Marius reaffirms that she's the only girl he's ever brought home and is special. Marius begins picking the MC up from work when she's working late.

Marius: Sorry for calling you so suddenly. I got worried because you weren't replying.

Marius: It's nothing much. I just wanted to remind you to lock the door before sleeping, and that you can call me if anything happens.

Marius: ... What's so funny about it? I'm serious. You can't let your guard down even if there's a new alarm system.

Marius: Don't worry, it's okay even if you forget. I can always keep guard for you like today.

Marius: Huh? Too clingy? ...Me?

Marius: That's not surprising. I thought I was being a little clingy too... Am I making you feel uncomfortable?

Marius: Really? You can be honest. I mean, I'm also trying to be more honest with myself recently.

Marius: Why so surprised? I'm not as easygoing as you think I am, especially when it's got something to do with you.

Marius: Ahem. Let's talk about something else... You seem tired, are you getting home late again?

Marius: Let me know if this happens again. I'll go pick you up. It's too unsafe otherwise.

Marius: It's not a bother at all. The district security systems are all developed by the Pax group. I can check up on how they're doing as I send you home, so it's two birds and one stone for me.

Marius: I really wish that you take it easier though. If it's too tough being an attorney, then I can always employ you anytime.

Marius: Haha, I'm joking. I know you have your own dreams and goals. I'm not going to stop you.

Marius: But... If you find that things become too hard one day, I'll always be there for you.

Marius: Like I said before, I'm happy to be your backup. Don't ever forget that. Good night.
