Luke "Among the Great Blue"/Rewards

Story Summary

This story takes place in Year 1. Luke is not yet in a relationship with the MC.

The main character, experiencing a three-day bout of insomnia after an important case, gets a call from Luke. Luke invites her to an overnight stay at the Oceanarium that offers its guests the chance to sleep in an underwater tunnel, hoping it will help.

Arriving at the Oceanarium that afternoon, the pair takes a tour, with Luke explaining the displays so effectively that he attracts a crowd of children with questions. One of the children, named Eason, gets upset with Luke's "adult ego" and storms away; his parents follow a few minutes later, searching for him.

Eason's parents fight about who has the most fault for their child's disappearance while Luke and the MC search for the boy. After finding him, they try to bring him back, but he refuses to go, claiming it's obvious the two had a happy childhood and can't understand what it's like for him. Luke corrects him, explaining his past and offering to listen to Eason's worries, as the MC texts the staff.

While Eason explains his troubles with his parents, they arrive and apologize. Luke and the MC banter about the photos Luke had shown Eason while winning his trust as they're called back to the Oceanarium for dinner.

After dinner and evening activities, Luke and the MC are given beds in the underwater tunnels, reminiscing further about their childhood together, until the MC falls asleep. When she wakes in the morning, Luke is already out of his bed; the MC finds him curled up against a wall.

Luke blames his strange state on having a leg cramp and swallowing some gum. The two go to another section of the Oceanarium to watch the sun rise from underwater, then banter about the planned seafood breakfast ahead.

You: I saw someone share their jelly fish handicrafts online.

You: It's amazing! It looks so real!

Luke: It's made with drop glue and glass.

Luke: It's not all that hard. Ordinary people can pick it up pretty quick.

Really?

You: Really? Am I able to make it as well?

Luke: Of course.

You: No way, it looks really hard.

Luke: It's not hard at all. When have I ever lied to you?

Luke: Sure, we can make as many as you want.

You: Then, let's make the moon jellyfish we saw at the aquarium last time!

Luke: Sure! We'll keep at it until you get it.

Luke: Is there anything else you'd like to make?

Luke: You can make handicraft accessories too.

Luke: Like necklaces and earrings.

Luke: Have you been sleeping better lately?

A little better

You: Yeah, much better.

You: But, I still can't sleep when there are urgent cases, or if I have to work overtime.

Luke: I see...

Luke: Seems like you don't have a good way to relieve your stress.

Still can't sleep

You: ......

You: Still. Can't. Sleep!

Luke: Hmm... Let's try something else then. Why don't we go out of the city for some air?

Luke: There's a B&B just outside the city. They say it's amazing for relaxing. Wanna try it out?

Luke: That's the one. There're also a lot of fireflies there at night during the summer.

Does it really work?

You: Does it really work?

You: I've tried everything. I think I'm gonna lose my mind...

Luke: You won't know if you don't try.

Luke: Fireflies gather there on summer nights. It looks really amazing!

Luke: Oh, and I heard that any wishes you make to the fireflies there will come true.

Luke: It happens to be the firefly season right now. We might be able to see them if we're lucky.

Luke: You can try wishing for better sleep.

I want to try

You: Really? I've got to try it!

You: I didn't expect you to believe in something like that...

Luke: Wha... Why wouldn't I? It's great, isn't it?

Luke: It's a good thing to look forward to nice things.

You: But, these superstitious things just don't seem very reliable...

Luke: I know what you mean.

Luke: But, you might be pleasantly surprised when trying out different things!

Luke: Besides... I'd really love to watch the fireflies with you.

You: Sure! It's been a while since we went out together.

You: Perfect! The case I'm working on should be done this week. Let's go!

Luke: Then it's settled!

Luke: I'm so excited for the weekend!

Luke: It's not just the fireflies... I feel like miracles happen whenever we're together.
