Talk with Yann Kahn again. Ask him to join the examination of the victims' remains.

Yann Kahn: You want me to cooperate with you... in the examination of Mr. Kahn and Mr. Dennis's bodies?

After informing Yann Kahn of the investigation thus far...

He doesn't raise much objection to the points of suspicion in the clues, but rather freezes up upon your request.

Yann Kahn: This... I-I'm not qualified to make the decision.

Yann Kahn: Without being able to contact the company, I...

You: I understand your concern, but if we don't hurry... we might lose out on important clues.

You: Surely the people in charge of your company would like to know who was behind the attack on Kahn Corporation?

Yann Kahn: The attack?

There is a slight change in Yann Kahn's expression, as if he's shaken by the mention of an attack.

You: Will you let this clue slip by... or gamble to find the truth and trust that you'll be right?

Yann Kahn: ...

Yann Kahn looks at everyone, then at Ronson, who stands quietly beside him, before nodding in agreement.

Yann Kahn: All right, I will accompany you to the examination.

Yann Kahn: But Dr. Ronson isn't feeling well, so let him rest in the dining carriage.

You: Of course.

Yann Kahn: Also, the conditions on the train are limited, and I'm not a professional medical examiner...

Yann Kahn: I can't promise what we'll find.

You: I understand.

Train - Suite (Day).png

Accompanied by Yann Kahn, examine the remains of Dennis and Ernst.

Several days have passed since Mark Kahn's death...

His body was placed in an empty carriage away from the passengers by Kahn Corporation.

Instead of heading over, everyone chooses to examine the bodies of Ernst and Dennis first.

You: Dr. Richter, Luke, and Yann have been in there for half an hour. I wonder what they found...

Marius: The train isn't equipped with any professional tools, and even if Luke has his own devices, I doubt they can find anything.

Artem: ...It should be over soon.

Artem is much calmer than you and Marius.

Artem: If our speculation is correct, Dennis' body will have what we're looking for.

Another fifteen minutes go by, and a rustle sounds from the room.

Vyn, Luke, and Yann Kahn come out.

You: How did it go?

Vyn: According to preliminary examination, there are no visible wounds on Ernst's body other than those on his abdomen...

Vyn: His cause of death was hemorrhagic shock from being stabbed in the abdomen.

Yann Kahn says nothing, but Luke nods slightly at you.

Luke: I ran his blood. Nothing unusual.

Luke: We can basically rule out drugging or poisoning.

You: (So Mr. Ernst was stabbed by Mr. Dennis and bled to death.)

Artem: What about Dennis? What did you find?

Luke: There are no visible wounds on Mr. Dennis' body, but I did find abnormalities in his blood.

Luke steps forward, showing the modified device to everyone.

His device is attached to a modified electronic screen that allows him to read the test data.

Luke: It's phenobarbital.

Luke: It's a type of sedative with hypnotic effects, primarily used to treat anxiety, insomnia, epilepsy, and other symptoms.

Vyn: Mr. Dennis had a habit of drinking. Did he drink a lot of red wine during the meal?

As Luke says that, Vyn's eyes are clearly fixed on Yann Kahn.

Yann Kahn's lips twitch unnaturally, and he nods.

Yann Kahn: Yes, he drank a lot.

Vyn: Ethanol amplifies the central nervous inhibitory effect of phenobarbital, which may cause cardiac arrest and respiratory depression in severe cases.

Vyn: And he was arguing with Ernst, which made his symptoms worse...

Vyn: I speculate that is what ultimately killed Mr. Dennis.

You: Hmm... a drug that treats anxiety?

You: But... I remember Mrs. Susan said Mr. Dennis didn't normally take medication.

Yann Kahn: Or perhaps he kept it from his wife?

Marius: It's a possibility.

Marius: But if a person takes medication under a doctor's orders, they would know not to drink alcohol, right?

Marius: For some medication, the doctor would certainly inform you not to drink alcohol.

You: Yes, even if he didn't tell his wife that he was taking medication, he would've shown more restraint when drinking.

You: So...

Artem: We can't rule out the possibility that someone deliberately drugged him.

Artem glances at Yann Kahn, who doesn't answer Artem. For a moment, his face was emotionless.

At this moment, a faint rustle comes from outside the carriage.

It seems some nosy passengers have taken notice of your extended stay in the carriage, and are attempting to peek inside.

Artem: It's time to go.

You: Yeah, I want to check the dining carriage for anything that might've been left behind.

You: If he was poisoned, we should have it tested immediately.

You: Any later and the food might go bad, or a crew member might clean it up, which would make it difficult to test.

Artem: Sure, we can check the dining carriage, then examine Mr. Kahn's body.

Luke: Agreed.

Marius: I trust [Player]'s judgment.

Vyn: You would not object to new discoveries after the examination, correct, Yann?

Yann Kahn only nods after being called out.

Yann Kahn: Of course not. I want to know more than anyone, who's behind the attack against Kahn Corporation.

Thus, everyone leaves the carriage and heads over to the crime scene in the dining carriage amidst the watchful gazes and whispers of the other passengers.

Food Truck: Riding the Tiger (3)

Investigate the crime scene again

Left

Luke: [Player], put on a pair of gloves and grab a clean wine glass.

You: Sure.

Following Luke's instructions, you pour some wine into a glass and leave it on the table.

Luke inspects it for a while, before taking out a small device from his pocket and putting it in the glass.

You: Is that a new device? It looks similar to the one before.

Luke: Yeah, it's based on the model we just used.

Luke: It's very convenient. After setting the substance to detect, you immerse it in the liquid. That's all you need to do.

You: Great, it's perfect for this situation.

*Beep*

Shortly after, the device makes a sound, which prompts Luke to look at the device. He frowns.

Luke: Strange, there's nothing.

You: Nothing?

Luke: Mr. Dennis' fingerprints on this glass prove he used it.

Luke: But no drugs were detected in the wine glass...

There is no doubt that the steps to reach the inference were correct. Nevertheless, attempts to verify that inference has been met with obstacles.

You clench your fists helplessly.

You: How can that be...

Luke: Don't worry, I've recorded the test data. We can review it once we get back to the room.

Middle

Looking at the abandoned food on the table and floor, you can't help but wonder.

You: (Besides the wine... could there be a problem with the food Mr. Dennis ate?)

You: (Maybe I should ask Luke to test it.)

Just as you're about to call Luke over, Marius comes over.

Marius: What's going on? Do you need help?

You: Yeah, I suspect there might be a problem with the food Mr. Dennis ate, so I want Luke to test it.

Marius: What a coincidence. I thought the same thing, so I borrowed the device from Luke.

Marius: They're still busy, so leave it to me.

You: Sure.

Marius follows the method that Luke outlined and tests all the food...

Marius: The results are out. No drugs were found.

You: Well, at least we can rule out the possibility that the food was drugged.

Marius: Yeah, let's go look for other possibilities.

You: Sure.

Right

Standing at the table and looking at the whole crime scene...

A new thought suddenly comes to mind...

You: ...

Artem: [Player], what's on your mind?

Vyn: Did you find something special?

You: No, I was just thinking...

You: Although the crime scene was secured, everything was chaotic during the murder...

You: There is still some time before the train reaches the destination, during which passengers will come and go in the dining carriage.

You: As a result, whether intentionally or not, the crime scene is likely to be contaminated.

You: Shouldn't we start by taking photos of the crime scene, thereby preserving the important details?

Artem: Sure, we can hand them over to the police as evidence so they can investigate.

You: I'll be responsible for the photos then.

You: Dr. Richter, Mr. Wing, please tell the others not to pass through here for now.

Artem: Sure.

Vyn: Of course.

Food Truck: Riding the Tiger (4)

Consult with NXX members about the current situation.

After surveying the scene, everyone meets up to go over all the clues.

Marius: There were no problems with the wine or food.

Marius: So... where did the phenobarbital in Dennis' system come from?

You: ...

This question leaves everyone in silence.

A few minutes later, Vyn is the first to break the awkward silence.

Vyn: Perhaps we are neglecting something...

You: Yeah, we need to calm down and sort through the clues.

Vyn: Before that, should we not place the last piece of the puzzle?

Vyn adjusts his glasses and mouths "Mark."

You: (Oh right, the examination of Mr. Kahn's body might provide us with more clues.)

Artem: Do you have a new theory?

Vyn: Yes, but it needs to be verified.

Luke: Well, what are we waiting for then? Let's go!

Train - Corridor (Day).png

Accompanied by Yann Kahn, examine the remains of Dennis and Ernst.

Leaving the dining carriage, you notice Yann Kahn standing in the corridor not far away.

Yann Kahn: All done? Did you find anything?

You: We didn't find anything unusual in the food left at the crime scene... I don't believe it has any more clues.

You: However, we saved photos of the crime scene, as well as the test data...

You: Hopefully, they will be helpful to the police investigation.

Yann Kahn does not respond, seemingly accustomed to staring in silence.

The natural light casts a long, dark shadow behind him along the floor of the dining carriage in an untraceable direction.

It makes you feel weird and uncomfortable, just like the shadow's owner.

Yann Kahn: So, nothing definite yet?

Vyn: That is not accurate to say. I believe Mr. Kahn will provide us with answers.

Luke: Please take us to the special carriage where Mr. Kahn's body is being kept.

Yann Kahn: Is that necessary?

Artem: Yes, gathering more information will help us see the whole picture.

Yann Kahn bites his lower lip, subconsciously averting his eyes.

Yann Kahn: Fine, come with me.

With that, he walks along the left side of the corridor without waiting for all of you.

Marius: He seems to be running away.

You: Yeah.

Indeed, he seemed to shirk at the mention of examining Mr. Kahn's body.

With the way things are, it may have caused a bigger public outcry if he refused.

Marius: Running away is shameful, but not necessarily helpful.

Marius: Let's go. He will eventually have to face it.

You thought you would have to wait in the waiting area for the results, just like the last time.

However, after fifteen minutes, Luke hurries out and calls everyone inside.

Mobius

Train - Suite (Day).png

There is an inexplicable chill in the air when you walk into the room.

It seems Kahn Corporation used a special refrigeration unit to preserve Mr. Kahn's body.

You: What happened?

Luke: I found something special.

Luke points to the bed.

The body on the bed has been covered completely with a white sheet, with only part of the left foot visible.

Yann Kahn: Hold on...

Yann Kahn makes a subconscious step forward, trying to stop all of you.

But he soon realizes how futile his actions are and stops, with an expression on his face that says "forget it."

Artem: Injection points?

Vyn: Yes, there are tiny and distinct injection points on the dorsalis pedis vein.

You: ...Left behind after an injection into the vein?

The injection points are so tiny that they would've disappeared in a short time on normal skin.

Death takes away some things, but it also leaves behind evidence.

After blood clots, the pale skin makes the injection points look conspicuous.

Marius: Luke, can we still test his system for drugs?

Luke: It's hard. I thought I could try... But the device I've prepared is still lacking.

Luke: Given the condition of Mark's body, it will be difficult to draw blood. We will have to wait for a professional to carry out a detailed examination.

Marius: So, nothing conclusive again...

Vyn: Not entirely so.

Vyn: At least we know for sure that someone did something to Mr. Kahn...

Vyn: His abnormal behavior prior to his death was not entirely caused by his intoxication.

Vyn: Any doctor who has read a few pharmaceutical books could come up with a list of hallucinogenic drugs.

Vyn: Am I right... Yann Kahn?

Vyn's tone is somewhat gentle, but that doesn't stop Yann Kahn from looking uneasy.

Yann Kahn: You're right, which... is why I didn't want you examining Mark's body.

Artem: Why not? Afraid of being suspected?

Faced with Artem's question, Yann Kahn's face is filled with embarrassment and confusion.

Yann Kahn: Oh my god... can you be more obvious?

Yann Kahn: That question proves that you... All of you... think of me as a suspect!

You: You are mistaken. We're not suspicious of only you, but anyone worthy of suspicion.

You: We just want to get to the bottom of it. That's all.

Yann Kahn smiles bitterly.

Vyn: Before Mr. Kahn was murdered... did anything special happen?

Yann Kahn: Special? What do you mean?

You: ...Did anything strange happen to him, for example, or was there a change that caught your attention?

Yann Kahn: Since I got on the train...

Yann Kahn: Nothing in particular changed except Mark's sudden tantrums.

Yann Kahn: As for anything strange... Something does come to mind.

Artem: Something comes to mind?

Yann Kahn: When I was sorting through my medicine cabinet, I noticed that Mark was missing two boxes of digoxin tablets.

You: !!!

Yann Kahn: High blood pressure runs in the Kahn family, and Mark was no exception.

Yann Kahn: Several years ago, he started experiencing symptoms of chronic heart failure due to hypertension. He had been taking digoxin for a long time.

Vyn: So he was on a medication regimen?

Yann Kahn: Yes. Mark had been taking digoxin tablets for a long time, so he kept boxes of it in his medicine cabinet.

Yann Kahn: So when I first found out two boxes were missing, I thought... I just forget them at home...

Yann Kahn: But after Mark's death, it occurred to me... Could someone have stolen the missing tablets?

Yann Kahn: After all...

Vyn: After all, a drug like digoxin with cardiac glycoside compounds is known to be toxic.

Vyn: If taken in large doses, symptoms of poisoning can occur...

Vyn: You must have noticed something unusual about Mark in the dining carriage that night.

Vyn: However, you chose to hide that fact to avoid implicating yourself.

Yann Kahn: Yeah, I have to protect myself first. Isn't that natural!?

Vyn's words seem to trigger something in Yann Kahn, whose eye starts twitching.

Yann Kahn: I'm an abandoned orphan adopted from an orphanage by the Kahn family.

Yann Kahn: That being said, I am really just Mark's personal butler and the family doctor.

Yann Kahn: After what happened, I had to think of saving myself.

Vyn: Has it occurred to you that this is precisely why the mastermind made sure the clues pointed to you, making you the scapegoat?

Vyn: Perhaps it is in your best interest to cooperate with us to find out the truth as soon as possible.

Yann Kahn: ...

Mobius

Train - Corridor (Day).png

Ignoring Yann Kahn, who stands there in silence, everyone leaves the carriage after the examination.

You stand in the corridor with the sun shining in...

Yet for some reason, you feel a slight chill in your heart.

You: How reliable... do you think his story is?

Luke: Somewhat.

Marius: After all, his argument sounds forced, but it makes sense.

Artem: The only thing we know for certain is that there's someone on this train pulling the strings.

Vyn: This matter is getting more complicated.

The human mind is a treacherous ocean in a world too complicated to fathom.

Despite being under the sun, you feel as if you're walking in the night fog, unable to see the direction forward.

Evidence Description (Spoilers)

Photographic evidence of the scene after the accident in the dining car. In it, there are messy plates, tipped wine glasses, and cloth stained with wine that seemed to indicate the accident was sudden and violent.
