The doctor seems to be in trouble. Ask him about it.

You: Doctor, are you busy now?

You are intrigued to know what Dr. Miller and the crew member are talking about.

Dr. Miller: Oh! Miss [Player], perfect timing.

Dr. Miller: I'm in a little bit of trouble at the moment, and I need your help.

You: What happened?

A crew member starts talking before Dr. Miller can respond.

Attendant: Well, it's like this, Miss [Player]...

Attendant: Strange shadows have been appearing on the train these days, which have made the passengers nervous.

You: Strange shadows... You mean the ones that appear in the carriages in the night fog?

Attendant: Yeah! Some passengers say they look scary and make them feel uneasy.

Attendant: Except... others claim that the shadows are illusions created by the Bakerlon crystals placed on the train...

Attendant: *sigh* Rumors have been spreading more and more recently.

Attendant: Now, many passengers believe the crystal accessories in the exhibition release hallucinogenic substances, which is why people are seeing strange shadows.

You: Hallucinogenic substances!? That can't be...

You: I remember speculating that the shadows might have something to do with the magnetic fields created by the crystals...

You: But that's something that needs further investigation, rather than jumping to conclusions.

Dr. Miller: I agree with Miss [Player].

Dr. Miller: Bakerlon crystals produce very special magnetic fields, which can lead to some strange phenomena.

Dr. Miller: But I can assure you, from what we know so far, that the effects on the human body are relatively small.

Attendant: B-But the passengers want a definite answer. What should we do?

You: Well, it would be nice if we could test for that with a device of sorts, to prove that the crystals don't contain any volatile substances.

Hearing this, Dr. Miller seems to remember something.

Dr. Miller: Thanks, Miss [Player]. Your words reminded me that I have test strips here to test for volatile substances.

Dr. Miller: If exposed to volatile substances, the test strip will change color within a minute.

Attendant: What a great idea! There are many Bakerlon crystal accessories placed within the exhibition and corridors. We can test those!

Dr. Miller: Miss [Player], could I trouble you with this?

Dr. Miller: The people of Bakerlon believe attorneys are messengers of justice. The passengers will listen to what you say!

You: Leave it to me. I'll be back in a jiffy.

Exhibition Room: Air Matter (2)

Conduct a round of testing in the showroom.

You tear one of the test strips and place it carefully on the table.

You: If there is a dispersing substance, it should change color within a minute.

You: Hmm... it's almost time.

After a minute, the test strip remains unchanged.

You: There aren't any abnormal substances here. I'll check out the corridors of the passenger carriages.

Conduct testing in the corridor of the passenger carriage.

You: That's an exposed Bakerlon crystal accessory, right?

You: Let's see...

You carefully place the test strip a little closer to the Bakerlon crystal and wait patiently.

You: No changes...?

You: The so-called strange phenomena have nothing to do with the Bakerlon crystals?

You: ...Let's check out the corridor of the luxury carriages.

Conduct testing in the corridor of the luxury carriage.

Attendant: Shame on you, the president of Ginnungagap!

Attendant: You have no right to make the whole population live on potatoes! People need carrots too!

Upon entering the carriage, you hear a crew member banging on the window and shouting wildly.

You: Wh-What's going on!?

Passenger A: Oh no, look at the crew member standing by the Bakerlon crystal. Is he hallucinating?

Passenger B: Yeah, yeah, he looks strange...

Passenger A: Oh my, they were right! The volatile substances from the Bakerlon crystals are causing hallucinations!

Passenger B: How terrible! Someone take them away!!!

You: Everyone, please calm down. It's too early to tell, I...

While trying to shoo away the passengers, the crew member standing by the window starts shouting once more.

Attendant: I will bring down the hammer of justice on you!

With that, he grabs the crystal ornament and tries to jump out the window.

You: Ahhh! Watch out—

You: (I have to make him come to his senses, or else he's gonna fall out!)

[Debate]

You: It's dangerous, get down!

The crew member seems to be in a trance, not understanding the situation, but he obediently climbs down from the window.

You: Whew... that was close.

Corridor of the Luxury Suites: Air Matter (5)

See if the attendant is doing better.

Attendant: Wh... What happened to me?

You: Are you okay? Just now, you...

The crew member has come to his senses as you try to explain what happened.

Attendant: Eh!? I... was just drinking with Hans. Just when I started to feel buzzed, the conductor asked me to clean the carriages...

Attendant: Ugh, my head hurts.

You: (Drinking!? Is it because of the alcohol? But... I don't smell alcohol on him...)

Just as you're about to do something, crew members rush over to the carriage, much to your surprise. Maybe they were attracted by the commotion.

The conductor thanks you, then arranges for the other crew members to escort the "perpetrator" back.

Corridor of the Luxury Suites: Air Matter (6)

Conduct testing in the corridor of the luxury carriage.

You: (What happened to the crew member...?)

You: (I should ask him about it the next time I see him.)

You: All right, time to test the volatile substance. Put this test strip next to the Bakerlon crystal... hmm?

Laying out the test strips, you notice a piece of paper under the base of the Bakerlon crystal.

You: What is it?

You pull out the crumpled paper and unfold it carefully.

The words on the paper have almost faded. In the broken fibers of the paper, you can make out the words "Eris International Trade."

???: "Miss [Player], interview for office secretary at 2 PM at 10 Shaudik Street."

You: Eh!? Just now...

Suddenly, a light playful voice rings in your ear. For some reason, you are filled with slight doubt and deep nostalgia.

A cool, fresh breeze blows in through the open window, dragging your long hair behind your shoulders.

For a moment, it feels as if you are not on a train, but on the deck of a ship sailing the ocean, looking out at the open world.

You stare at the piece of paper for a moment, smiling with relief. Then you fold it and put it back where you found it.

You: (What a strange vision... What happened to me...?)

You: (I'm an attorney... why would I interview to be a secretary?)

You pull out the final test strip, which indicates no change whatsoever.

You: It seems the Bakerlon crystals don't contain any volatile substances. Time to find Dr. Miller.

Just as you're about to leave, a clear voice rings inside your head.

???: "Live."

Exhibition Room: Air Matter (7)

The test results are good. Tell the doctor.

Back at the exhibition, you briefly tell the doctor about the incident caused by a crew member and the results of the test strips.

You: ...That's what happened. The tests proved that the ornaments made from Bakerlon crystals don't contain any volatile substances.

The doctor nods earnestly.

Dr. Miller: Thank you, Miss [Player]. I will report the test results and proof to the conductor shortly after.

You: Although we have ruled out this possibility, we... still haven't ascertained a definite cause for the passengers' hallucinations.

You: Oh right! A crew member I just met in the corridor was always behaving strangely...

Dr. Miller: Hmm... I need some time to research this.

Dr. Miller: We've ruled out hallucinogenic substances, but there might be other factors...

You: (Dr. Miller will spend some time on the problem. I should come back later.)
