Luke "Moment of Danger"/Rewards

Story Summary

This story takes place in Year 1. Luke is not yet in a relationship with the MC.

Luke and the Main Character discuss a recent documentary about rock climbing, which leads to their decision to try it for themselves at a local outdoor climbing gym. At the gym, The coach teaching the climbing lesson asks whether they'd be interested in today's race.

The coach explains the race of the day: a team race, with a prize of limited-edition rock climbing journals. The MC, previously uninterested, is tempted by the prize and asks Luke if he'll enter with her. With 90 minutes to practice, the MC begins her first climb of the novice wall. As she rests, Luke surprises her with hints that he's actually a very good climber.

Looking to prove his boasts, Luke climbs the speed climbing wall at a speed that wows the crowd, then he asks to be the MC's personal climbing coach.

The MC questions Luke about his reluctance in their first conversation about climbing, and he reveals it came from a place of concern for her stamina and safety. As race time approaches, the MC psychs herself up, and when it's their team's turn, Luke begins his climb first.

Luke climbs the race wall four times faster than the next closest competitor. As the MC prepares to take her turn, Luke readies himself to climb again beside her, which has been cleared by the gym's coaches as long as he doesn't interfere. Worn out from her earlier practice, the MC's grip gives out near the top, and Luke catches her as she falls.

Due to the MC's fall, their team is disqualified from the race, and the pair goes to the infirmary to ensure neither of them is injured. As they leave the infirmary, the gym's coach stops them and awards them a pair of the race prize journals as a reward for Luke breaking the gym's solo speed wall record. The MC promises to finish the race next time, but the pain in her arms causes her to postpone "next time" indefinitely.

Luke: That "Art of Journaling" article is quite interesting. I didn't expect that it took so much to make a journal.

You: I'm honestly really interested now...

Luke: Do it. I think it's a great idea.

Luke: What kind of journal are you thinking of making?

It seems really interesting

You: I know, right!? I thought it was really cool and wanted to show you.

Luke: Let's make a journal too!

Luke: What kind of journal do you want to make?

Work journal

You: I want to make a work journal, so I can record the people and events at work.

You: It's also good a way to remember the things while growing up too, right?

Luke: Yea, you can see how you've improved this way. It's a really great idea.

Personal journal

You: I want to make a personal journal, so I can record all the little things in life.

You: It's a collection of your life and memories.

Luke: Collecting life memories is not a bad idea.

Luke: Oh! There's a journal shop at the Central Business District.

Luke: They say that you can find all sorts of journal related stuff there.

I want to go!

You: I want to go!

Luke: Want me to go with you?

There's a journal shopping area?

You: There's a market just for journals? I didn't know that...

Luke: I stumbled across it online.

Luke: Wanna go take a look?

You: You're really busy, and I always make you keep me company...

Luke: I just saw your post... You're thinking about trying out wilderness survival?

It's just a post

You: Oh, no. It's just a random post.

You: I watched a show about it a few days ago. It looked pretty interesting.

Luke: You gave me a scare there. I thought you were really gonna do it.

Luke: Wilderness survival tests both a person's physical and mental capacity.

A little interested

You: Yeah, I saw a show on it, which got me interested.

You: Why?

Luke: You... probably shouldn't...

Luke: Wilderness survival isn't as easy as you'd think.

Luke: I wouldn't want you to try something so dangerous.

You sound very experienced

You: You seem to know a lot about it.

You: Have you... done it?

Luke: Not exactly. I've just been to a simulated training.

I don't feel like it's dangerous

You: It didn't look that bad in the show.

Luke: Watching it on a show and actually doing it are two completely different things.

Luke: I've gone to a simulated training. I was in pretty bad shape at the end of it...

Luke: So, if you really want to go... make sure you let me know.

Luke: You'd be safer with me.

I give up

You: Forget it then...

You: I wanted to make sure I could survive in all kinds of situations...

Luke: It's okay. We can still go camping as an alternative.

Luke: It's relaxing, and not as dangerous.

Luke: And it's also just as interesting as wilderness survival.

What made you join the training?

You: Why did you get trained for that?

You: Don't tell me your secret research project requires you to go through a wilderness survival training.

Luke: No. Of course not. It was just something I was interested in.

Luke: I had the chance, so I went for it.

Luke: Would you be interested in camping?

Luke: It's just as interesting as wilderness survival, minus all the dangers.

Luke: You've been really busy lately. Wanna go and relax for a bit?

A little interested

You: Sure! I'll be counting on you then, Detective Pearce.

You: I don't have much experience with camping after all...

Luke: Just leave it to me!

Luke: I'll make sure you have an unforgettable time!

Not interested

You: Yeah... camping seems nice. But, it is just as you said, I've been really busy...

You: I rarely get any breaks. I just want to stay at home and rest.

Luke: I see... Catching up on sleep is definitely more important.

Luke: Well... if you get bored, you can call me at any time.

Luke: I'll always be here.
