Luke "Iridescent Heartbeat"/Rewards

Story Summary

This story takes place in Year 1. Luke is not yet in a relationship with the MC.

The main character, having gotten bored on vacation, is helping to clean up at Luke's antique shop when she discovers tickets to Nosta Theme Park's soft opening. Alarmed that Luke meant to throw the tickets away, the MC questions him about why he doesn't want to go. Luke responds that the park has sacrificed too much safety to deliver a thrill, but the MC presses him, and he agrees that they'll go together soon.

On the flight to Nosta, Luke uses the plane's tablet to browse the park's negative reviews, concerned about safety hazards. The MC reassures him that even the incidents in the negative reviews aren't bad and asks him not to be so overprotective. She sleeps during the flight, and Luke apologizes in her sleep, saying he really likes her and asking her not to hate or get tired of him. After arriving, Luke suggests only the safest attractions first.

The MC rejects Luke's safe suggestions and chooses bungee jumping for their first stop. The MC grows fearful as the pair's turn approaches; Luke helps her through it by making the two-person jump with her in his embrace. The event staff points out the gear might be too tight, but Luke rejects his offer to loosen it, which causes the MC a minor injury. When Luke discovers the injury, he gets angry, then begins to wallow in inconsolable self-blame. The MC chastises Luke for taking all the responsibility and becomes angry; Luke tries to win her back with cotton candy and a promise to go on the rafting event.

At the rafting event, Luke and the MC listen to the safety instructions, with Luke lapsing into overprotectiveness again and the MC asking by asking him not to treat her so delicately and enjoy himself. The MC, tries to take command of the trip, knowing Luke already planned the safest possible route, but they quickly get stuck, and the MC lets Luke lead. They see many of the island's sights before Luke brings them to a sea cave with a rainbow.

Luke prides himself on his preparation that led to the rainbow in the cave, while the MC feels bad that she couldn't successfully prove that "going with the flow" can sometimes be better. The rainbow shifts into a double rainbow, and in his eagerness to see it from a better angle, Luke accidentally capsizes the raft. The two are uninjured and enjoy a moment watching the double rainbow, with Luke promising to stop worrying so much over small accidents and asking her to keep exploring new things with him.

The two struggle to get back in the raft until a park staff member comes across them, then complete the rafting route and finish their vacation. Back in Stellis, they reflect on the nice vacation and arrange a meal together. Luke organizes photos from the trip while sorting through his feelings for the MC.

Luke: Hey, did you see the video I sent you?

Luke: I just finished a case and happened to see a rainbow on the way back, so I took a picture and sent it to you.

Luke: So? Do you like it?

Luke: That's great! If I ever run into interesting things, I'll take a photo and send it to you. How about that?

Luke: Reason? There's no reason. I just wanted to share them with you.

Luke: It's not just the views. I just want to save everything that's nice and beautiful in the world for you.

Luke: But there are always things we just can't hold in our hands... so all I can do is take photos of them.

Luke: My photographing skills are pretty good. I'm pretty sure I'm at the pro level.

Luke: Hmm? You miss the double rainbow from last time and think that it was a missed opportunity?

Luke: Yeah. Double rainbows are extremely rare, but I didn't have my camera that day. It really was a shame.

Luke: But don't be sad. We'll definitely have chances to see much more beautiful double rainbows in the future.

Luke: How am I so confident? Did you forget that you promised me that we'd go visit more places and witness more wonders together?

Luke: So I'm confident that we will.

Luke: Even if we don't... Well, that's fine too.

Luke: You being by my side is already my greatest wonder in the world.
