The smell of fireworks fills the air in the lively night market. You and Marius stop by a shooting game stand.
Marius: A shooting game? Well, it's pretty common, but the prizes are local specialties.
You: Hey! Look at that elephant praying for rain. Isn't it adorable?
A small wooden sculpture of an elephant with a flower bracelet has its nose in the air to beg for rain. It's incredibly adorable.
Marius: You like it? How about I get it for you then?
You: Why don't I give it a go?
Marius: ...Miss, based on what happened with the claw machine, I think my chances of getting are much better.
You: But... the claw machine is different from shooting.
After all, the rules say that each person only has one shot...
Marius: Let me at it. If I knock down the wooden elephant for you, you have to grant me a request.
You: Alright, I'll let you try. But if you miss, you're gonna have to grant me a request.
Marius: No problem. Excuse me, I want a shot at that wooden elephant.
Just as he's about to show off with the toy gun, a tiny figure emerges from the crowd and bumps into him.
Little Girl: Hey, don't steal my elephant!
Little Girl: I saw it first! I already wanted it when I was standing back there!
You and Marius exchange a look, then Marius clears his throat.
Marius: Hey little girl, first come, first serve. I'm also interested in this elephant.
Marius: But if you like it so much, how about a fair competition? Whoever shoots it first gets it!
Little Girl: Hmph! I won't lose to you!
You whisper to Marius.
You: She's only a kid... Don't take it so seriously.
Marius: Don't worry, Miss. I know what I'm doing.
He picks up the gun and takes aim. Beside him, the little girl mimics his movement, pouting her lips in earnest.
After a soft "bang," the elephant sways left and right before falling to the ground.
Marius' and the little girl's bullets hit the target at the same time.
You: Well...
You thought the kid would lose for sure, but... now what?
Little Girl: I...
Marius: I lost. You're incredible, little girl. You were able to hit it at the same time as me, so you deserve it. Take it.
Little Girl: But... you hit it first! Don't you like it?
Marius: You're a far better shot than I was at your age. As for the elephant...
He looks at you with a great big smile.
Marius: I prefer this girl over that elephant. I'm sure she would want me to give it to you.
You: (Honestly, this guy...)
You pat your slightly hot face a few times and nod at the little girl.
You: He's right. You keep it!
Little Girl: Thank you! I wish you two a hundred years of good luck!
Marius: That kid is polite and knows how to talk! She has a bright future ahead of her!
You: Hey!
