Story 1

Scene 1: Vyn's study

Vyn: Wait for me here. I'll go make some tea.

You: Thank you, Dr. Richter.

Vyn smiles at you and heads downstairs to make tea.

A few days ago, Dr. Richter invited you for tea over the weekend to celebrate the arrival of his new tea set.

You have some psychology-related questions that you wanted to consult Vyn about, so you accepted his invitation.

You: Hm? What are all these books on Dr. Richter's desk?

After Vyn leaves, you take a look around his study.

When your eyes fall on his desk, you unexpectedly notice something unusual.

You: Poker cards... dice... tablecloth? What are these for?

These poker cards look quite ordinary, not the same gold-plated ones that you saw during your first visit.

You: And... are those wires on the other side? What are the shiny things in that box? Pigments...?

You: Why are these things on Dr. Richter's desk? How peculiar...

You stare at Vyn's desk trying to figure out how these items are related, but still remain clueless after a while.

You: (ls Dr. Richter experimenting with a new psychology test...?)

Vyn: The black tea is quite hot. Be careful.

While you are deep in thought, Vyn's voice comes from behind.

Vyn: Ah, thank you, Dr. Richter!

You turn around and see Vyn holding a tea set in his hands.

The porcelain tea set is gold gilded and painted with flowers. Small rabbits were also sculpted on the handles and cups of the set.

You: Ah! Is this tea set the same prop that the magician used on stage when we went to see him perform that day...?

Vyn: Hehe, the one on stage was a prop. This set is made of real china and is the prototype for that prop.

You: (Real China? It must be expensive...)

You sit next to the small desk and pick up the tea set carefully.

Vyn takes this opportunity to quickly remove all the odd items from his desk and place them inside the drawer.

You: Dr. Richter, did your magician friend return to his home country already?

Vyn: ... Yes. He returned home after finishing his tour in Stellis City.

You: I see... Hopefully, he'll get the opportunity to come here for a tour again!

As you recall that grand magic show, fond memories return.

You: It would be great to see his performance once again...

Vyn: ...

Vyn tightens his grip on the tea cup in his hands while you are not looking.

Scene 2: Opera House

Last weekend, Vyn invited you to the opera house to watch a grand magic show.

He was a friend of Vyn's from abroad. The magician was now on a global tour performing the international award-winning "Mad Alice."

You: Wow! Dr. Richter, the background scenes are beautiful! But, my eyes can barely keep up because it keeps changing...

Vyn: They are meant to show the mental state of Alice as she gradually turns mad.

Vyn: The faster the scenes of the Wonderland change, the darker and more distorted her mind becomes.

You: My eyes can't keep up anymore... Dr. Richter, can you still tell how many scene changes there were?

Vyn: This is the fifth. If we include all the minor scenes in between, I am afraid even I have lost count myself.

You: Incredible... this is not just a magic show, it's actually a work of art...!

The scenes on the stage continuously change, while the gripping performance keep delivering surprises.

During the tea party of the Mad Hatter, played by the magician, there was also a cute bunny performing alongside him.

The entire show ends with thunderous applause. You stand up and enthusiastically applaud the magician.

After everyone had left, Vyn's friend comes to meet Vyn and you at the front stage.

Magician: Vilhelm, long time no see. I am really honored to have you at my show.

You: (Huh? He's speaking in...)

Suddenly you hear a foreign language. You realize that this must be Vyn's native language.

You: (Looks like I won't be understanding their conversation for a while. I'll wait until they're done before asking Dr. Richter about it.)

Vyn: Long time no see, Carl. Congratulations on winning the world championship. This must be a dream come true.

Magician: Yes! I promised you a few years back that I would win first prize. I finally did it.

While you are confused by their conversation since you couldn't understand anything, Vyn turns around and introduces you to the magician.

Vyn: (Name), this is Carl, a friend of mine from when I was abroad.

Vyn: The show tickets were a gift from him.

Then, he turns back to Carl but does not continue speaking in their native tongue.

Vyn: Carl, this is (Name), my...

Magician: Your date, right? Sorry for prattling on like that, my lady. That was rude of me.

You: (... So he does know our language!)

Carl smiles apologetically and greets you, which actually makes you feel a little bad.

Vyn, who had been interrupted by Carl, made no move to correct him.

You: Hello, Mr. Carl.

Magician: Hello, my dear Ms. (Name).

Magician: Actually, I was just about to ask... Vilhelm, I can't believe you brought a date along to see my show!

You: ... Huh?

You are surprised at what he just said.

Magician: You used to come alone all the time. When you asked for two tickets this time around, I was quite shocked.

Magician: But if it is because of this lady... hehe, I can understand.

Vyn: Do not go making wild guesses regarding me.

Magician: Was I making wild guesses? I don't think so...

Magician: I know you well and can easily determine if it was just a wild guess.

Vyn: ...

Listening to their conversation in what seemed like riddles, you couldn't quite wrap your head around it.

The magician suddenly smirks and diverts his gaze away from Vyn to you.

You: ...?

Magician: Allow me to introduce my lovely partner to this dear lady...

While talking, Carl takes out the top hat from his performance. He bows and turns the hat upside down.

Suddenly, two white bunny ears popped out from within the hat that had been turned upside-down.

Following that, a furry white head pops up and stares at you with a pair of shiny, red pupils.

You: Ah... a bunny...!

You: So cute!!

Story 2

Scene 1: Opera House

You: Ah... a bunny...!

You: So cute!!

This was the same bunny that played March Hare on stage just now! You've always wanted to pet it...

You: Can I pet it?

Magician: Of course!

With Carl's approval, you hold out your hand towards the bunny.

You: (wow... its fur is so soft! This bunny is so cute!)

Vyn: ...

Magician: Hehe... if you are interested, I can explain to you the design process behind this performance!

You: Wow, really?

Magician: Of course, I am happy to be at the service of pretty ladies.

You: Thank you, Mr. Carl! Please do tell!

Vyn: ...

Afterward, Carl enthusiastically tells you the design process and the inside story of the performance.

In contrast, the usually sociable Vyn remains silent next to you.

You: That's amazing! You have to design the entire performance in addition to the magic!

Magician: Hehe. This is a must for magicians! The concept materials can enrich the magic and bring all kinds of inspirations.

The magician patiently answers all your questions on the magic show as he shows you around onstage.

By the time you return to the front stage, you had already learned a lot about the show's inside story.

Magician: Stellis City is the last stop of my tour. Soon, I will have to start preparing for the next championship.

You: Ah... So that was your last performance. What a shame...

You: However, it's great that you can build on your experiences to create even better performances! I hope you win again!

You: I will eagerly await your next tour at Stellis City!

Magician: I will not let you down.

Vyn: ...

Carl then asks you to wait a moment as he then takes out a piece of red cloth from a box next to him.

You: Mr. Carl...?

Magician: It is an honor to meet such a lovely lady today...

You: Huh...?

Mr. Carl then suddenly walks forward and leans towards you assertively.

You: ...!

Magician: Please accept this gift from me as a token of my admiration.

With a crackle, the red cloth starts burning in his hand.

You: Ahh!!

Then, in the midst of your exclamation, he uses his hand to extinguish the fire.

You look down at the center of his palm, where a red rose quietly laid.

You: Wow...!

Magician: Dear lady, will you please accept my gift?

Carl extends the rose before you.

Somehow, you can't help but feel that there is something more to Carl's actions.

After hesitating a bit, you...

Accept rose

You: (Since he's a friend of Dr. Richter's, I better accept it.)

With that in mind, you reach your hand towards the rose.

Vyn: Carl, are you quite done?

His long, slender fingers gently wrap themselves around your fingers, blocking off Carl's hand.

You: Dr. Richter...?

Vyn gently lets go of your hand.

Surprised, you look at him, only to see displeasure reflected in his eyes.

Magician: Sorry, I was just joking.

Magician: I guess... it was not a wild guess about you and her.

Don't accept rose

You: (Although he's a friend of Dr. Richter's, giving me flowers on our first meeting's a little...)

You sneak a peek at Vyn, wondering how he'd react to it.

Much to your surprise, Vyn actually appeared upset.

You: (Ah...! I didn't notice that Dr. Richter was upset...!)

You: (Was it because I kept talking to the magician, so he didn't have any time to catch up with his old friend...)

Magician: Huh? What's wrong? You don't like roses?

Magician: If you prefer other kinds of flowers, I can...

Vyn: That is enough, Carl.

Suddenly, Vyn speaks coldly and interrupts the magician.

The magician doesn't seem fazed at the cold look on Vyn's face. Instead, he only raises a playful eyebrow at him.

Afterwards, he says something to Vyn in a foreign language that you didn't understand.

Magician: It's not like you to lose your composure like this, Vilhelm.

Vyn: It is none of your business.

Vyn adverted his gaze, responding coldly to him.

You: (What did they say just now...?)

Perhaps realizing the inappropriateness of his attitude, Vyn returns to his normal self again.

The two of them start talking about the old days again, as if nothing happened. Soon, it was time for you to leave.

Magician: Since you cannot accept the rose, then you must take this gift instead.

When it's time to part ways, Carl gives you a hair tie decorated with rabbit fur.

You: So cute... I will cherish it!

Afterward, you and Vyn bid your farewells and leave the opera house.

Scene 2: Vyn's Study

You: Did Mr. Carl send this tea set from overseas?

Vyn: Yes. According to him, his inspirations came from this tea set.

Vyn: After he won the prize, he specially went to thank the tea set's designer in person.

You: It's amazing how he can design a whole performance, magic and all, around a tea set!

You cannot help but get all excited upon remembering Carl's amazing performance and the dreamlike scenes.

You: It would be great if I had another chance to see his performance!

You: Hmm... Maybe I'll go watch the next live broadcast of the international magic contest online!

You: With Mr. Carl's abilities, winning the championship again should be easy!

Just as you are expressing your admiration for Carl, you realize that Vyn had gone silent again.

Just like last time, Vyn goes quiet after hearing you mention Carl and his magic.

Vyn: (What's wrong with Dr. Richter...)

You tilted your head, attempting to make out his expression behind the hair hanging in front of this face.

Vyn: Magic is nothing profound. It just takes advantage of people's psychological perception to make something fake look real.

Putting down his cup, Vyn looks up and says a few words. He sounds very indifferent saying that.

You: Why do you say that? I think that it's pretty difficult to capture the hearts of so many people during a performance...

You suddenly see a hint of mischief in his eyes.

You: ...Right, I shouldn't be talking about controlling one's psychological perception in front of a psychiatrist.

You: But, wouldn't every magician be skilled at figuring out the audience's mental state of mind if that were the case?

You: Do you have to be a master at psychology before you can become a magician?

Story 3

Scene 1: Vyn's Study

You: Do you have to be a master at psychology before you can become a magician?

You can't help but ask these questions upon hearing Vyn's thoughts on magic and psychology.

Vyn: From a certain perspective, it may certainly seem this way.

Vyn: The live show involves a large audience and requires an understanding of people's psychology. Perhaps on a much larger scale than psychiatrists.

Vyn: In a live performance, a magician must ensure that his every move is effective. There is no room for failure.

Vyn: That's why, whether it be performing skill or understanding psychology, a magician must be highly apt at both.

You: That's true... if you can't capture the heart of the audience, they won't think your performance is wonderful.

You: Plus, they have to design complex stages and situations, which require more than just the knowledge of acting and psychology.

Vyn: Yes. It's not an exaggeration when people say magic is related to natural sciences and criminology.

You: Amazing...

You have forgotten how many times you have been amazed by magic.

You: (While on this subject, you feel as though magicians can become attorneys as well, not just psychologists...)

However, Vyn suddenly interrupts your thoughts just as you start to think that way..

Vyn: But if magicians are really capable of so many things, there are no professions out there that they cannot handle.

Vyn: That's why it is not entirely unreasonable when many people call magicians "tricksters."

You: Tricksters...? That makes the magicians sound like they're deceiving people.

Vyn: Is that not the case?

Vyn smiles while taking a sip from his cup.

You: That isn't the case... Magicians bring people wonderful performances, isn't that true?

Vyn: But the way they do it, in a sense, is no different from deceit, right?

You: ...

Vyn: Magicians only need to learn psychological guidance, change blindness, and compulsion to create a brilliant show.

Vyn: But from an outsider's perspective, they appear to be good at everything... Is that not a type of deceit?

You: What...

You know Vyn's explanation is flawed, but you just don't know how to refute him.

You: Then, why don't you explain to me just how the methods that magicians use are related to deceit?

Vyn: First, psychological guidance is simple.

Vyn: Magicians will provide answers within the audience's expectation, leading them to believe a false truth.

Vyn: Such as, showing only the back color of a card, leading the audience to think that "there is only one color."

Vyn: When he shows a card of a different color, the audience finds it amazing since it contradicts the false truth.

Listening to his explanation, you nod your head lightly.

You: Even if such guidance is deceiving, what about the other two points?

Vyn: Psychological compulsion is similar to guidance. It is often used in the so-called "free to choose a card."

Vyn: The magician will give hints, leading the member of the audience to believe that the card is chosen randomly.

Vyn: But in reality, the card picked out by the member of the audience is always determined by the magician.

Using psychological hints to "deceive" the audience... this certainly fits the description of a trickster...

You: ...

Vyn: Change blindness is the strongest argument for why magic is "deceit."

Vyn: There is a psychological experiment called "The Invisible Gorilla" that can be used as an example.

Vyn: In the experiment, the test subjects were asked to watch two groups of people dressed in black and white, and count the number of times they pass the ball to each other.

Vyn: Since the two teams of people kept moving around, the test subject must pay close attention to the ball.

Vyn: Meanwhile, someone dressed as a gorilla joined them and remained until they were done passing the ball.

You: What a strange experiment... So, what was the result?

Vyn smiles and pushes up his eyeglasses. You sense that he is about to say something unbelievable.

Just as you would expect...

Vyn: After it was over, almost all the subjects said that they did not see the gorilla.

Vyn: But the truth is, they spent quite a bit of time looking at said gorilla.

You: !!!

You: In other words, even though the gorilla was in plain view, everyone claimed they didn't see it!

Vyn: Yes. The test subjects' attention was focused on something else, which was why no one saw it, despite it being so obvious.

You always thought that not noticing is the same as not seeing. It turns out they are two different concepts.

Vyn: The same is true for magic.

Vyn: Many times, we see the truth behind a magic trick, but our mind does not realize it, so we end up being tricked.

Vyn: And the reason why it happens is because of the magician's guidance, successfully leading us "away" from the truth.

You: ...

You: (His explanations do make sense... magicians are indeed... skillful deceivers...)

Thinking he has you convinced, Vyn looks satisfied with his explanation.

You: But... connecting all the simple steps and creating a cognitive "miracle" is what makes magicians amazing!

You: Not to mention combining it with performing arts to deliver a grand performance. I am still impressed by magicians!

Vyn: ...

You: So, I'm looking forward to watching Mr. Carl's performance again...

You hear an exasperated sigh as soon as the words left your mouth.

Vyn: ...I did not expect you to like his performance so much.

Vyn shakes his head while picking up the tea cup, a troubled look on his face.

That expression seems to indicate that you did not understand the meaning behind his words.

Vyn: The next time he visits Stellis City, I will reserve tickets from him ahead of time.

You: That would be great... Eh? Dr. Richter, your glasses!

His glasses had fogged up from the hot steam wafting from the tea cup since he'd been talking while holding onto it.

As he is thinking as fast as he speaks, he seems to have not noticed it.

Vyn: Sorry, please excuse me.

Vyn seems to finally realize. He removes his glasses and goes to retrieve his wiping cloth from the desk.

You: (Just now, Dr. Richter's glasses were foggy. He could see it but didn't notice?)

You: Looks like not necessarily everything we see with our own eyes is true... People end up believing only what they perceive, in the end.

Vyn: Yes. People cannot remember everything in their vision, so they only process the parts that they care about.

Vyn: In other words, people will only see what they want to see.

Vyn: This is the key to a magician's trick in "deceiving" the audience's mind.

You: (Ah! There he goes... again!)

You: (Magicians can give a good performance. So what if it is just the act of deceiving our eyes!?)

You: (Why won't Dr. Richter just let the whole "magicians only deceive others" thing, go!)

The more you think about it, the more you refuse to concede. You come up with a prank...

Vyn returns to the desk with the wiping cloth.

However, his hand only touches the empty desk when he tries reaching for his glasses.

Confused, he lifts his head and looks at you as you hand him his glasses.

You: When the world is blurry, what do you see?

Vyn: ...

Vyn looks at you, stunned, not realizing why you are asking this question.

You: When you can't see the world clearly, you rely on your imagination to see the things in front of you, right?

Vyn: ... Yes.

You: To some extent, everything that Dr. Richter sees right now is your imagined world, right?

Vyn: ...

You: That's what I think magicians do. Using real life performances to bring the world we imagine to life.

You: Things that we find impossible or supernatural can be realized through their performances.

You: Such "deceit" in my opinion, is quite beautiful. We cannot dismiss its value just like that.

You: What do you think?

Vyn silently looks at you while he listens.

You are aware that you were currently naught but just a vague shadow in his eyes.

Vyn: ... You win.

You: ...?

Vyn: I should not have used such biased explanations to describe magic.

Vyn: However...

The smile on Vyn's face suddenly reverts back to his usual calm smile with a hint of mystery.

He stands up and leans forward across the desk.

You subconsciously move back, but are blocked by the sofa.

You: !!!

Vyn: Both deceit and magic are an artform. Just like right now...

Vyn: You are using your own way to distract me, making it hard for me to determine your movement, no?

You: I...

Although you know he cannot see you clearly, you still subconsciously want to avoid him closing in on you.

Then you feel a tender force catching lightly onto your wrist.

You: Dr. R-Richter...!

With him holding your wrist, your body is stuck between him and the sofa. You have no choice but to confront his gleaming eyes.

You: (I thought he couldn't see... How can he...!?)

Vyn: Just like you said, bringing the fictional world of imagination to life is an artform.

Vyn: But, uncovering the falsified truth behind the fog of imagination and restoring it back to falsehood is also a form of art.

Vyn: Want to know just how I managed to grab onto you?

His grip tightens around your wrist.

You: H-How...?

Vyn: Because there is always an overlap between reality and imagination.

Vyn: I am just using it to figure out where the truth is.

You: (Uh... it's hard to understand what Dr. Richter is trying to say...)

You: (Ah wait! Dr. Richter is agreeing with me that a magician's job is to transform the fake into the real...)

You: (Then, what he talked about uncovering the fog and the art of revealing the truth, he means... I)

Vyn: Humans go to great lengths to hide their heart. The layers must be peeled away in order to find it.

Vyn: Do you not think this is even more sophisticated than magic?

You: ...

As if he is pressing you for an answer, Vyn leans even closer to you.

You: Err...

You want to get away, but you cannot avoid his gaze. Your hand that held his glasses begins to shake as his grasp tightens.

You: No... I think having the insight to the human heart is something much more brilliant than magic...

You: But, why are you emphasizing so much on this point...? Is it really that important for you to get an answer out of me?

You: (I finally understand why Dr. Richter was acting strange today. Does he want to know which is method is better?)

You: (But my answer won't decide anything...)

Vyn: Of course your answer is important.

Vyn: Or should I say... your answer is the only one I care about.

You: Why...

Theose golden eyes earnestly stare at you. Their brilliance pierces though your eyes, almost as if he were looking straight into your heart.

Vyn: Because...

Amid the tender conversation, your hand starts to feel hot from the close contact, making a blush bloom on your cheeks all the way to your ears.

Then, you hear his response.

Vyn: Rather than understanding the hearts of a thousand people...

Vyn: Yours, is the only one I wish to know.

Story 4

Scene 1: Bedroom

You: ...

You: Ah! I'm daydreaming again...

You suddenly come back to your senses and find yourself daydreaming on your bed. You let out a long sigh.

You: (How many times has it been now... And here I told myself not to overthink it...)

You keep thinking about what Dr. Richter had said ever since you came back from his place the other day.

You: (What did he mean by wanting to know my heart...)

You: Ah, I'm doing it again! Isn't it normal for Dr. Richter to want to know someone's heart? It's his job!

You: Stop overthinking it...

Just as you continue to talk to yourself, your phone begins to vibrate next to your pillow.

When you see the incoming call, you almost drop your phone back onto your bed.

You: What am I being nervous for...

You shake your head to clear your mind and pick up the call.

You: Dr. Richter?

Vyn: It is l. l have a gift I would like to give you.

You: Eh...? A gift for me? Why?

Vyn: It is a secret for now. You will see.

Vyn: Are you free this weekend? I would like to give it to you in person.

You: Ah, yes! I don't have any plans this weekend!

Vyn: We should settle on a time then. We should meet at my place.

Vyn: I will have to bother you to make the trip over. I will make appropriate preparations. See you over the weekend.

Excited about your mysterious gift, you are nervous and anxious to see him again over the weekend.

As the weekend nears, Dr. Richter contacts you, saying that he needs to head to the school for work.

However, this doesn't affect your plans. He simply changes the meeting location to the exhibition building at school.

Saturday morning.

Scene 2: Art Gallery

You: Dr. Richter isn't here yet. He must be busy.

You: I'll wait for him a while longer.

You sit down on the campus bench to rest. Basking in the warm sunlight felt very comforting.

Looking around, it is still just as you remember. The years you spent at Stellis University slowly resurface.

You: (It seems that nothing has changed much except this museum, which was built just after my graduation!)

You recall that the woods in the mountains behind the exhibition building was a haven for couples.

You: l was too embarrassed to look around back when I took walks there with my roommate, for fear that we'd walk onto someone...

You: (Haha... thinking back, we really did have a lot of time on our hands. I guess that's just youth for you.)

Vyn: (Name), sorry to have kept you waiting.

A familiar voice comes from behind you. You immediately turn around.

You: Dr. Richter, you're done with work?

Vyn: Yes. I am free to spend the rest of the day with you.

You: Okay! You said you had a gift for me! I've waited all week for it!

Vyn sits next to you with a smile and opens his hands towards you.

You: Hm? Something wrong with your hands?

Vyn: The gift is in my hand.

You: Eh? But there's nothing in your hands!

Vyn: Really?

Vyn smiles mysteriously. You look closely at his hands. There's nothing there!

You: Ugh... Stop teasing me, Dr. Richter...

Vyn: Heh... Just because you cannot see it does not mean it does not exist. Your eyes can be deceived.

Vyn: Why not check with your hands?

You: (Put my hand there to check? Could it be that it's something I can't see? No way!)

Filled with curiosity, you extend your hand towards Vyn's open palms...

???: Hey! Student over there! Can you do me a favor!?

Just as you put your hand on top of Vyn's, someone quickly runs over.

You: Sorry, I'm not a student...

???: It won't take very long! Please help me? Pretty please!?

Vyn frowns upon hearing the persistence in the person's voice. He raises his eyes to look at him.

Vyn: Can we help you?

???: I want to ask this young lady to help me with my proposal ceremony.

???: It won't take long, I promise!

You: ...

You: Eh!?

You: (What is this... A proposal ceremony!? What kind of situation did I get myself into?)

Suitor: Please! All I can find is...

Vyn: Sorry, but we are busy.

Vyn stands up and shields you with his raised arm.

Vyn: Please find someone else to help you instead.

You: ...

You peer out from behind Vyn, contemplating the person.

From the worried expression on his face, it doesn't look like he's pulling a prank.

But when he rushed over saying that he needed help with a proposal ceremony... It sounded really sketchy...

Suitor: Ah... sorry...

He finally noticed how strange his request probably sounded He laughs, then apologizes to us.

Suitor: l was in too much of a rush and didn't explain myself properly. Sorry for the misunderstanding...

He calms down and explains his situation.

Suitor: I'm a Stellis University graduate, and I want to propose to my girlfriend here, at school, today.

Suitor: You know the woods behind the exhibition building? That's where we first met.

Suitor: I specifically chose that location to propose. I want to surprise her with a scenic magic trick.

Suitor: But...

He sighs and shakes his head.

Suitor: I originally asked my friend to be my magic assistant.

Suitor: But he fell ill today and couldn't make it. So... I need to find someone else to help on the fly.

You: Oh... I see.

You: (You should have just said so from the start. You scared me when you ran over, asking me to help complete your proposal...)

After hearing his explanation, Vyn seems to be much more at ease.

Vyn: We misunderstood. Sorry.

Vyn: So, what kind of help do you need?

Suitor: I need a partner to help me complete the magic. It's simple. You'll definitely get it once I tell you!

The boy looks hopefully at you. You feel a little surprised.

You: You sure you want my help?

Suitor: Yes!

You: But I've never done any magic. It would be bad if I made a mistake during such an important ceremony...

Having said that, you and Vyn exchange glances with each other.

You: (Dr. Richter built a card tower in front of me before, and he's friends with Carl. He probably knows more about magic than I do.)

You: (Wouldn't he be a safer choice to go for?)

Agree to help

You: Then... I guess I'll give it a try?

Vyn: Do not worry, I am here too. If something goes wrong, we can still salvage it in time.

You feel much calmer knowing that Vyn will be going with you.

You: (I should challenge myself... Dr. Richter is here to help me if something goes wrong!)

You: Okay! Then, I'll help!

Ask Vyn

You: Dr. Richter, I'm not familiar with magic. I'm afraid I might make a mistake...

Vyn: Would you like me to go in your place?

You: Yea...

Vyn nods and explains the situation to the boy proposing.

Surprisingly, the boy looked a little sheepish at that.

Suitor: Ah! Well, there are parts where you need to be hidden. So people that are smaller will have an easier time...

Vyn: ...

Looks like he still think you more suitable than Vyn for the job.

Not wanting to rain on his parade, you agree.

You: It's okay, then I'll do it. I'll try my best!

Suitor: Thank you so much!

Following the boy's lead, you and Vyn head towards the woods behind the exhibition building.

He explains that he wants to use scenic magic in his proposal because he was influenced by Carl's magic show.

After Carl's tour, Stellis City popularity boom in Magic. Magic performances could often be seen on the news.

The purpose of these performances varied greatly. After seeing it a few times, he decided to use magic to propose.

Along the way, he describes his college experiences with his girlfriend. Soon, you arrive at the woods.

Scene 3: Woods

You recalled that there was a wooden swing with vines that would blossom with fresh flowers during spring in the empty clearing.

Because of that, this place became a famous dating location for couples.

You: Ah! We're here!

You see a white veil covering the swing. The thin yarn was shining with reflections under the bright sunlight.

Unlike what you remembered, there were not only flowers blooming on the swing, but small colorful blooms everywhere in the surrounding area.

You: It's so beautiful! Did you do this?

Suitor: Yeah, it's scenic magic after all. The natural scene also needs to be very pretty.

You: All these flowers and vines... seem to be folded out of crepe paper? That must have taken a long time!

Vyn: Although the decorations are man-made, it does not clash with the natural look of the place. This design took a lot of effort.

Suitor: Heh, thanks for the compliment.

Then, the boy describes his magic performance, explaining the tools and steps in great detail.

After hearing him, you realize that what you're responsible for is actually not difficult at all. You instantly feel relieved.

Vyn is listening next to you. If anything goes wrong, he promised to help you salvage it.

Half an hour later.

You: Is this okay?

Suitor: Yeah, you learn really fast. I'm sure it'll be no problem!

Vyn looks at the watch on his wrist.

Vyn: If you need to prepare anything else, you may want to hurry.

Vyn: There is less than 20 minutes before your performance begins.

You: Oh man, you're right! Miss (Name), let's double check the items one last time.

You: Okay!

Vyn: I will check the exterior sets.

Suitor: Alright, thanks!

Vyn nods and walks further away.

You can't help but let out a smile as you watch Vyn carefully prepare the scene.

You: (Dr. Richter is such a kind person... He always tries his best to help others)

Suitor: Miss (Name), are the things okay on your end?

You: I checked. There won't be any problems! I'll be sure to do my best!

Suitor: Alright! Thank you so much!

You: Right... I have another question for you.

After looking at Vyn, you turn to the boy.

You: I don't think it's terribly difficult for someone to secretly help you out with such a complicated scene.

You: So even if the person is bigger, they can still use the scene as cover.

You: So, I have a question. Why did you insist on asking me for help? I think he's much more reliable than me...

Suitor: Well...

The boy looks troubled when you bring up the topic.

Story 5

Scene 1: Woods

You: So, I have a question. Why did you insist on asking me for help? I think he's much more reliable than me...

Suitor: Well...

The boy looks troubled when you bring up the topic.

Suitor: About that... Okay, hopefully you won't laugh at me if I tell you...

You: Eh? Why would I laugh at you...

Suitor: That man is of mixed blood, isn't he? He looks very distinct and stands out.

Suitor: During the performance, my job is to draw everyone's attention while you prepare the props, right?

You: Yeah?

Suitor: Think about it. If he was my assistant, then everyone's attention would be on him, right?

You: ...Ah!

That's true, Vyn draws attention everywhere he goes. He's not suited to be an invisible assistant.

Suitor: Oh and...

The boy hesitates for a second before letting out a wry smile.

Suitor: That guy is really... maybe I should say that he shouldn't have a problem becoming a movie star?

Suitor: He's too handsome! If he's at my proposal ceremony, I'm not sure how many people would be focusing on me like they should...

You: !!!

I see, so that's why...

You finally understand what he was worried about. Although his concerns are valid, you can't help but to find it funny.

Vyn: Are you guys ready?

Just as the two of you finish your conversation, Vyn walks towards you both.

Vyn: They should be here soon.

Vyn points toward the small path where you can faintly hear talking on the other side of the path.

Suitor: Ah, Rena is coming! I asked other students to bring her here from the school gates.

Suitor: Miss (Name), I'm counting on you!

You: Okay...!

You clench your fist. Your palms begin to sweat as the official ceremony is about to start.

A warm palm holds your shoulder.

Vyn: Do not worry, I am here.

Vyn: Trust me. okay? No matter what kind of problem it is, I will be right by you.

You: Alright...!

You: Having a magical proposal in the place where you first met... Just the thought of it sounds wonderful!

You: This proposal ceremony will definitely be romantic! I'm looking forward to it!

You do a final check on the preparations for the magic before waiting for them to show up.

Around ten minutes later, a girl surrounded by a group of students is escorted to the swing.

You: Wow, what a beautiful girl... so she's the star today!

You see that the girl has on a white one-piece dress as she was escorted to her seat on the swing.

You nod at the boy before you move behind the swing to stand in position.

As people quieten down, the performance begins. The boy walks slowly towards the girl on the swing.

You can tell that he put a great deal of thought into this ceremony. His white-collared shirt is spotless!

But you can still tell that he's nervous from the expression on his face and how stiffly he's walking.

You: (Good luck... We've got this!)

You suddenly feel the gaze of someone eagerly watching you. You look into the crowd.

Standing out in the crowd, Vyn smiles as the two of you make eye contact.

You: (Dr. Richter is here with me. It'll be okay!)

Suitor: Rena, l have prepared a surprise for you today...

The boy asks the girl to sit on the swing covered by the white veil. He is blushing.

Girl: What is it...?

The girl probably has some idea of what is going on, so she avoids his gaze while asking him...

Suitor: I... I...

The boy is a little anxious. He moves closer to her, trying to hold her hand as he proposes.

However, he steps on the white veil and falls into the bed of flowers by the girl's feet.

You: (That's the cue...!)

Seeing the veil fall off the swing and land on the ground, you push the hidden bouquet behind the swing towards the boy.

You: (Catch it...!)

Girl: Ahh... Watch out!

The girl jumps off the swing and helps the boy up. The boy embarrassedly scratches his head, and the people begin to laugh.

By the time the girl helps the boy up, the veil on the swing has fallen down, resting on the grass.

Suitor: I'm sorry, Rena! I was too anxious. Sigh... the veil fell down... I'll put it back up immediately.

Seeing that the proposal isn't going as smoothly as planned, the girl wants to comfort him.

As she reaches over to comfort him, the boy picks up the veil, and she covers her mouth in surprise.

Picking up the veil, a blossoming bouquet of calla lilies appears in his arms.

Crowd: Wow...!

The crowd is stunned. No one saw how the boy had done it. The bouquet seems to have appeared out of thin air.

You: (Whew... step one is a success!)

You feel relieved. You wink at Vyn, who is sitting in the crowd.

Vyn nods and smiles back at you.

That's right. The boy fell on purpose, so he could pull the veil onto the ground.

With everyone focused on him, you had enough time to hide the bouquet inside the veil.

That was how the bouquet of calla lilies suddenly appeared after he picked up the veil.

You: (Okay... next...)

To prepare for the next step, you squat down behind the swing and place your hand on a cage below the swing...

In front of the swing.

Girl: These flowers...

The girl is really excited to see the flowers before here.

Suitor: Calla lilies represents pure and loyal love. Rena, my love for you will never change.

It sounds like lines straight out of a romance movie. It's awkward, but the one these lines are being said to will still be moved.

Girl: Thank you...

Blushing from ear to ear, the girl extends her hand to receive the flowers.

You: (Ready...!)

You use your finger to gently open the cage door.

But for some reason, the metal wire that holds the door closed is stuck.

You: !!!

This unexpected incident throws you into a panic.

According to the plan, the cage should have been opened the second the girl goes for the flowers. But now...

Vyn: Do not panic.

A warm breath softly caresses your ear.

You turn around, meeting a pair of golden eyes hidden, behind long lashes, looking down at you from a very close distance.

You: Dr. Richter...

Vyn appears out of nowhere, squatting down next to you behind the swing.

His lips curl as he smiles. He places his hand over yours on the cage door.

His long fingers allow him to push the metal wire through the thin spacing of the cage...

Girl: Wow...!

While the girl is astonished, the boy lets go of the bouquet in his hand.

The bouquet falls to the ground and the veil was once again released, spreading out on the ground.

In the next second, accompanied by the sound of flapping wings, white doves fly out of the white veil.

Behind the swing.

The moment the cage door opens, the white doves fly out of the cage.

The sun shines on the doves as they fly away. Cupid himself would have attended a ceremony this romantic!

You: It worked...!

You look at Vyn, sinking deeper into his deep golden eyes.

You: !!!

You only just notice how close you two are, hiding together in the small space behind the swing.

Vyn: Do not be afraid. I told you. Whatever happens, I will immediately be by your side... Right?

You could feel the warmth of his breath on your face. The noise of the crowd seems to slowly fade away...

His words in his soft voice continue to comfort you. You nod subconsciously...

You: ... Yikes!

Realizing you are too close to Vyn, you unconsciously inch backward...

Thud... A muffled sound comes from where I hit my head. Despite it not hurting, I still got shocked by it.

Vyn: Be careful...

Vyn shakes his head helplessly as he lowers his hand from the top of your head.

You realize that you almost ran into the back of the swing.

Vyn: If they find out we are hiding in here, the magic would be less magical.

You: Yeah, we cannot reveal the secret behind the magic trick...

Vyn: We should leave... before someone sees us.

You and Vyn leave the swing and blend into the crowd.

As the doves fly into the sky, the girl and the crowd cry out in surprise.

The boy frees the last dove before getting down on one knee in front of the girl.

Blessed by the angels, the boy speaks and opens his palm, revealing the box that holds the ring.

Suitor: Rena, please marry me!

The students cheer for them, making quite the commotion. The girl's eyes fill with tears as she agrees.

You: That's so sweet...

Everyone in the crowd begins to clap for this magic show proposal.

Helping to make this romantic proposal go smoothly... It will be a memory that you and Vyn will remember for a long time to come.

You: I hope they will be together forever.

Vyn: I can see that you are fond of this type of proposal ceremony.

Vyn turns around, looking at you with a smile.

You: Of course! I'm sure many girls enjoy these new and creative ways of proposing.

You: The surprise is more important than the romance!

Hearing what you said, Vyn pushes his glasses up and lets out a mischievous smile.

Vyn: So the element of surprise is more important than the romance... Noted.

You: Huh...?

Story 6

Scene 1: Woods

Suitor: You two, thank you so much for your help!

After the proposal ceremony is over, the boy finds us to extend his most sincere gratitude.

Vyn: No need to thank me. It is something wonderful. We were glad to help.

You: Yeah, I think so too! Good luck to the both of you!

Suitor: Haha, I need to thank you, Miss (Name). Thank you for practicing with me and helping out the whole way.

After bowing at you, the boy smiles at Vyn, nodding.

Suitor: I also need to thank you for lending her to me.

Vyn: ...

You: ...Eh!? What do you mean?

Suitor: When I saw you two sitting together, I honestly didn't think you were going to help me.

Suitor: It meant delaying your date and nobody wants that. So once again, thank you two very much for your help!

You: (D-Date...!?)

You: N-No... Um...

Suitor: I wish the two of you happiness and hope that you last long! Ah! Rena's calling me, I've got to go!

After the series of well wishes, the boy quickly runs back to his girl.

You: ...

Vyn: ...

You: Dr. Richter, he seems... to have misunderstood...

You: You... aren't angry, are you...?

Vyn: ... Why would I be angry about this?

He shakes his head and looks over at the swing behind you.

After the proposal ceremony, the other students helped clean up.

Only the swing that witnessed the proposal remains in the empty clearing.

Vyn: You were standing for a long time. Are you tired?

You: Ugh...

Vyn's words remind you that you haven't sat down or rested at all since you met the boy. Your feet does hurt.

Vyn: Sit down on the swing and rest your feet.

You: Okay.

You and Vyn sit down on the swing together.

Vyn: l have not congratulated you yet on successfully completing this magic show.

Vyn: You are now a magician too.

You: I only helped a little. I'm still a ways away from becoming a magician.

You: But I'm happy that I was able to participate in today's magical performance!

Seeing that you are happy, Vyn also lets out a small laugh.

Under the shadow cast by the trees, the rays of sunlight land on his pupils, flickering with his bright eyes.

Vyn: Oh yes, regarding what I said before about magic...

Vyn: I think... maybe the way I said it... was too arrogant.

You: Before...?

Hearing what Vyn said, you suddenly remember the argument the two of you had in the study about magic.

Although you won in the end, some interesting things did happen...

Flashback

You: That's what I think magicians do. Using real life performances to bring the world we imagine to life.

You: Things that we find impossible or supernatural can be made real through their performances.

You: Such "deceit" in my opinion is quite beautiful. We cannot dismiss its value just like that by calling it mere "deception."

You: What do you think?

Vyn: ... You win.

You: ...?

Vyn: I should not have used such biased explanations to describe magic.

Vyn: However...

Vyn: Both deceit and magic are an artform. Just like right now...

Vyn: You are using your own way to distract me, making it hard for me to determine your movement, no?

Vyn: Just like you said, bringing the fictional world of imagination to life is an artform.

Vyn: But, uncovering the falsified truth behind the fog of imagination and restoring it back to falsehood is also a form of art.

Present

Vyn: Did some of my words back then bother you?

Vyn: Now that l have first-hand experience, I am able to understand how great magicians like Carl really are.

Vyn: The methods are that of "deceit." But. the happiness and the pleasant memories it brings are real.

Vyn: This is probably why people highly praise magicians.

You: Dr. Richter...

Hearing Dr. Richter put aside his doubts and genuinely respect magicians makes you happy.

Thinking about the argument you had reminds you of the words that made you lose sleep for days...

Flashback

Vyn: Rather than understanding the hearts of a thousand people...

Vyn: Yours, is the only one I wish to know.

Present

You: !!!

You subconsciously raise your head, locking eyes with him.

The passing breeze disturbs the petals on the vines. They brush past his soft eyes, softly landing on your skirt.

Vyn: ... What is it?

You: N-Nothing!

In attempt to cover up your flustered emotions, you play with the petals that fell on your skirt.

You: (I get weirder every time I think about what Dr. Richter said...)

To get out of this awkward fix you find yourself in, you try to think of another topic.

You suddenly recall the reason why you came to meet him today...

You: Hey! Dr. Richter, weren't you going to give me something?

You: You know, before that boy came to us for help...

Flashback

Present

Vyn: Well...

His voice sounded a little hesitant. You look up and see the troubled look in his eyes as he avoids your gaze.

Vyn: I did prepare something for you, but...

Vyn lets out a rare look of hesitation. This is very surprising to you.

Moments later, he lets out a soft sigh and looks at you with a bitter smile.

Vyn: Compared to today's proposal ceremony...

Vyn: What I have prepared for today cannot compare to it, whether it be in meaning or surprise.

Vyn: I apologize. I would like to make a change to the present. Is it okay if I give it to you next time?

Vyn: It will... only disappoint you this time.

You: ...

You: Wait, Dr. Richter. Could it be that the gift you want to give me today is...

You: Something related to... magic?

Vyn looks down, avoiding your inquiring gaze. He lightly nods his head after a while.

Vyn: It's just... a simple magic trick not worth mentioning.

You: ...

For some reason, you kind of understand his feelings after seeing the expression on his face.

If you prepared a small magic trick for him as a gift, and had to go through the same events today...

You probably wouldn't want to show it either.

But...

You: Dr. Richter, I still want my gift!

Vyn: ...Huh?

His golden eyes waver slightly as he looks at you in surprise. You hold out your hand in front of him.

You: I believe that nothing can beat someone's goodwill. It is the best gift to ever exist, if it can be communicated well.

You: So, I wouldn't be disappointed in the small magic trick you prepared for me.

You: Your performance is unique. Just because I've seen others, it doesn't mean yours won't surprise me.

You: You've already prepared everything. Just because someone performed first, doesn't mean that I can't become your first fan.

You hold out your hand, urging Vyn to quickly show you what he prepared.

Looking at you silently, he doesn't move at first. But moments later, he lets out a smile.

Vyn: ... Thank you. You always seem to surprise me at times like these.

You: ...

Vyn stands up and walks in front of you.

He smiles and holds out his hand, like he's extending an invite.

Vyn: Can you please put the flower petals here?

Vyn looks at the flower petals you collected.

Realizing your words might've encouraged Vyn, a warm feeling rushes to your heart.

You: Sure.

You pick up the flower petals on your skirt and place them onto Vyn's right palm.

Vyn looks down at his hand. Although he looks serious, his brows were furrowed. You can tell that he's a little nervous.

You: It's okay, Dr. Richter. Don't be nervous! It's okay to fail your first time...

His golden eyes look at you. His gaze stops you from retracting your hands.

Just like that, he uses his left hand to put both your hands on his balled up right hand.

Vyn: With you here by my side, I will not fail.

He releases your hands and slowly opens his right hand.

You: ...!

The flower petals you put in his hand are gone. They all disappeared!

In his palm is a flowery hair clip, shining brightly under the sunlight.

You: It's such a pretty hair clip!

You: (The material for the petal is familiar and there is gold powder inside... Ah!)

You suddenly remember seeing a flower-shaped metal wire and a box of shining "pigment" on his desk before.

You: (So that's what he was preparing back then...)

A warm and wonderful feeling spreads from your heart to the rest of your body.

You: Thank you, Dr. Richter... I really like it.

Hearing you say that you like his gift, he lets out a wholesome smile.

Your words of affirmation seems to make him happy.

You: Dr. Richter, why are you giving me this...

Vyn: Because, I can do it too.

You: You can do it too...?

Seeing Vyn's satisfied expression, you remember when Carl gave you a rabbit hair tie after his performance...

You: (Uh... C-Could it be...!?)

Vyn: Whether it be understanding people, or making imaginations a reality...

Vyn: Whatever they can do in front of you, I can too.

His deep voice tickles your ears, making the burning sensation spread to your cheeks.

Vyn: I will not lose to anyone in front of you.

You accept Vyn's gift. When you arrive home, you place it on your dresser.

Scene 2: Bedroom

You: I found it... The rabbit hair tie that Mr. Carl gave me!

Before going to sleep, you find the hair tie and put it together with the hair clip.

You: I didn't think Dr. Richter would be that bothered by this...

You gently run your fingers across the cold flower petals on the hair clip.

He probably spent a long time preparing for this magic trick, so that he wouldn't lose to anyone...

You put the rabbit hair tie back into your accessory box. Precious gifts should be treasured.

As for the hair clip Dr. Richter gave you...

You: I'll wear this hair clip the next time we meet up.

You pick up the hair clip and try it on in front of the mirror.

Scene 3: Vyn's Study

Vyn receives an international call on the same night.

Carl: Hey Vilhelm, how did it go? Did the thing I teach you work?

Vyn: No.

Carl: What!? That's impossible, no girl can resist my magic... Did you fail at performing it?

Vyn: That is impossible. Failure does not exist in my dictionary.

Vyn: I do not think she likes the fancy but meaningless things.

Carl: You know, saying that to a magician is really hurtful... Oh well, but then again, that's how you've always been.

Carl: So? Did you seriously give her one of your little hand-made trinkets?

Carl: Honestly, Vilhelm, I took a look at those things. You're not suited to make handicrafts...

Vyn: But, she will only choose to use my gifts. Your thing will only be seen as part of a "collection," never to be used.

Carl is silent for a moment, and then he chuckles.

Carl: Heh... Do you really see me as a competitor? It'd be very unfortunate for me if you started treating me like an enemy.

Carl: However, this is the first I've seen you ask for help because of someone else...

Carl: Oh, and you actually got angry because of a girl... I will never forget this for the rest of my life!

Vyn: ...

Carl: Okay, I'm done. Vilhelm, she's a great girl. I look forward to hearing about the two of you.

The phone call ends. Vyn puts away his phone before starting his nightly routine with the dictaphone.

However, the images of almost failing the magic trick and her reaction to receiving the gift were all that revolved in his mind.

Vyn doesn't utter a single word.

He remembers that day, those words that he had said to her on a whim...

The situation is getting very dangerous.

Vyn: ...

Vyn looks down at the dictaphone in his hand. Time passes, recording his voice that is no longer calm.

Vyn: Before I can understand your heart...

I can no longer understand even myself.

Text: Shopping Invitation

You: Dr. Richter, do you usually go out and walk around?

Vyn: You mean going shopping?

To shop

You: Yea, do you usually go out and shop yourself?

Vyn: Yup, I believe that you can only determine the value of the item by having seen it yourself.

To walk

You: No, I meant to ask...

You: Do you go out for walks? Just taking a stroll somewhere?

Vyn: I sometimes look for a quiet place to walk around when I have spare time.

Vyn: Why? Are you asking me out for a walk?

Yea, I want to ask you to take a walk

You: Yea, I'd like to take a walk with you over the weekend and relax.

Vyn: What a coincidence, I was just thinking the same thing.

Vyn: I was going to ask if you were free this weekend to go out with me.

No, just randomly asking

You: Ah, no... I'm just curious.

You: You are probably busy though...

Vyn: I am free.

Vyn: I have been looking forward to taking walks with you.

Vyn: Well... Since you were the one to extend the invitation, you get to pick where we go.

Central Business District

You: Let's go walk around in the Central Business District!

You: I need to go buy something!

Vyn: Sure, I know a really good dessert shop. We can go there If we get tired.

Vyn: Oh, if you do not mind, can you also come with me to the gardening market?

Vyn: I want to see if there are new rose bushes there.

Gardening Market

You: Why don't we go to the gardening market!

You: You're always tending to the garden. You must be really interested in gardening huh?

Vyn: Yes, I bought quite a few of the flowers in my garden from there.

Vyn: We can go and see if they have new rose bushes.

Happen to be learning about flowers

You: Alright, I've been wanting to learn about gardening from you too.

Vyn: No problem, I will tell you anything that you want to know.

Hope the weekend comes sooner

You: Alright, then it's set! I'll be looking forward to the weekend!

Vyn: Can I interpret what you just said as... you are looking forward to being with me?

Vyn: I am just joking, you do not need to answer that.

Vyn: I will see you over the weekend. I too look forward to every chance of being with you.

Text: Magician Apprentice

Vyn: I saw you wearing the hair clip I gave you. It looks good on you.

Thanks

You: Really? Thanks Dr. Richter.

Vyn: I am very happy to see you wear it.

Vyn: I should be thanking you for not thinking that my magic trick was crude.

Dr. Richter is very skillful

You: It's all because of your amazing craftsmanship.

You: Not only can you make hair clips, you can do magic as well!

Vyn: I am glad you liked it, l was worried you would think it was crude.

Vyn: Oh, are you still interested in magic?

Vyn: I learned a few new ones lately. I can show them to you.

You learn so quickly

You: Dr. Richter, you honestly learn things so quickly...

You: You'll be able to compete for other magician's work very soon.

Vyn: I doubt that. I am only learning the simple tricks.

Vyn: I just put my own twist on it.

How'd you learn it

You: Dr. Richter, who did you learn this from?

You: Is he not afraid of you becoming better than him?

Vyn: I did not learn it from anyone in particular.

Vyn: I just made some changes on the basic techniques.

You're too modest

You: You're too modest Dr. Richter!

You: You already have your own techniques...?

Vyn: I am a long way off compared to the real magicians.

Vyn: Even if it is just a simple magic trick, I hope you find it to be unique.

Vyn: That is why I came up with a few techniques of my own.

Show off

You: Now I think you're just trying to show off.

You: Dr. Richter, you're crushing me here...

Vyn: I did not mean to do that.

Vyn: I just wanted to give you a different kind of surprise. That is why I came up with my own techniques.

Vyn: The trick itself actually is not very hard. If you are interested, I can teach it to you.

That's great

You: That would be great! I've always wanted to learn!

You: I'm not sure if I’ll be able to learn it.

Vyn: You will do just fine.

Vyn: It was not too hard being my TA assistant last time, was it?

Worried can't learn it

You: I want to, but I'm afraid I won't get it...

You: I felt really dumb, especially when comparing to you.

Vyn: Magic performances share a common ground with psychology. That is why I can pick it up so easily.

Vyn: I think you will also pick it up really fast.

Vyn: Come over the weekend. I will teach it to you over some tea and dessert.
