Orchidshine Street

Artem: Are you tired? Do you need to take a break?

You: Well... I had planned to go to the pavilion in the center of the lake to rest, but I don't have any energy left.

Artem: If you want to rest at the pavilion in the center of the lake, then I have an idea.

You: What is it?

Artem looks at you, his lips curling slightly upward as he squats down in front of you.

You: !!!

Artem: Hop on, I'll carry you.

At Artem's urging, you climb cautiously onto his back.

Orchidshine Street

Artem: Do you want to go boating on the lake later?

You: Boating?

Artem nods, pointing at the black-awning boats floating on the lake, which piques your interest.

You: Sure, but why don't we go now?

Artem: Sure, I'll go buy the tickets.

Orchidshine Street

You: Artem, look at the two fat birds sitting on the overhanging eaves.

Artem: I think those are magpies.

You: Are magpies always that plump-looking?

Artem: Perhaps the tourists on Orchidshine Street fed them too much...

You: So that's why they're so plump.

Orchidshine Street

Artem inspects the exquisitely-made fan in front of the shop. He seems to be pondering something.

You: Do you like fans?

Artem: Yes, I remember an ancient saying...

Artem: When a man courts a woman, he will give her an exquisite fan as a token of affection.

You: ...

Artem: I don't know much about the workmanship of fans, but I think this one suits you. What do you think?

You: Yeah, I like it too.

Artem: Great.

Orchidshine Street

You: Artem, there are so many lanterns here.

Artem: Yes, it seems they were made using an ancient technique.

You: No wonder they look simple and adorable.

You: Let's buy two and keep them at home.

Artem: As you wish.

Orchidshine Street

You: The bamboo here is flourishing, and there are fresh shoots emerging underneath.

Artem: I remember hearing that the bamboo shoots that grow around this time of year are delicious even when plain-fried.

You: Ah, stop! You're making me crave braised bamboo shoots.

Artem: We can head home early and pick up fresh bamboo shoots at the supermarket on our way home.

You: Sure!

Orchidshine Street

You: As expected, the teahouse is packed with people.

Artem: Yes, this teahouse is quite famous. The reservations for this month were booked up last month.

You: How do you know?

Artem: Because I made reservations in advance.

Artem: Let's go inside. Didn't you want to drink tea and eat dessert by the window?

You: Oh, yeah.

Orchidshine Street

You: Orchidshine Street is much bigger than I imagined.

Artem: Are you tired? Would you like to rest?

You: I'm not tired, but I remember there being a rice cake shop around here. I can't seem to find it though.

Artem: A rice cake shop?

Artem: I remember passing by one on our way here.

You: Eh? Did we miss it?

Artem: Yes, I believe so. Why don't you rest here? I'll go buy some.

You: It's okay. It'll be too exhausting to go back now.

Artem: No worries, I also want some.

You: I'll come with you.

Artem: All right, let's go then.

Orchidshine Street

You: The tower ahead is so tall.

Artem: That tower used to be the tallest building in the area. The scenery at the top overlooks the entirety of Orchidshine Street.

You: Really? Let's go up and take a look then.

Artem: Sure.

You: How lively.

Orchidshine Street is bustling at all times, with delicious shops lining the sides of the wide streets.

Many children pull on their parents' clothes, asking to buy various things from the many vendors until a satisfied smile appears on their faces.

You: Did you visit this place when you were a kid?

Artem: My parents were always busy with work, so they rarely took me to places like this.

Artem: Even if they did, they probably wouldn't have let me do the shopping.

Your mind is filled with images of Professor Garner, but you can't picture how she would react to Artem throwing a tantrum.

Perhaps out of love, or because you're just in the mood to tease him, you take Artem's hand out of curiosity.

You: Then, Artem, I'll buy you whatever you want today.

Artem: !!!

Artem: Okay.

You and Artem stroll down Orchidshine Street while holding hands.

The street is lined with many vendors, but Artem doesn't seem interested in any of them.

You: Don't you want anything?

Artem: No, it's all right.

His sounds slightly at a loss.

Now that you think about it, it makes sense that the current Artem wants different things than when he was younger.

But you... still want to capture the shadows of his childhood, allowing him to experience the happiness of ordinary children.

You: Artem, look! Candied fruit!

Before he can react, you lead him to a shop selling candied fruit.

The red hawthorn berries are coated in a glassy layer of sugar, tantalizing to almost anyone who set eyes on them.

Unfortunately, the shop has a long line of children who are out on a spring outing. By the time you get to the front of the line, there's only one stick of candied fruit left.

You carefully open the packaging and pass the stick of candied fruit to Artem.

You: Here.

Artem: ...

Artem: You can have it.

Artem: I didn't frequent this place as a child, but I've had my fair snack of childhood snacks, including candied fruit.

You: But that's different. Adults bought it for you back then, and today...

You: (It means something more today because your girlfriend bought it for you.)

Artem seems to understand what you wanted to say. He smiles, taking a bite out of the candied fruit in your hand.

You: !!!

Artem: Yes, it's much sweeter than I remember.

Artem: Perhaps because you bought it for me.

Artem looks at you with smiling eyes, specks of sugar staining the corners of his mouth.

It's almost as if the uptight attorney has accidentally let his composure slip, loosening a fraction and making you want to take advantage of it.

You can't help but wipe the specks of sugar away with your fingers before licking them clean.

Artem: You...

You: It's sweet.

Artem: Yes.
