The following is a Beginner's guide to help get started in Tears of Themis.

Introduction

Tears of Themis is a mobile romance detective game developed and published by miHoYo. The game is played from the perspective of the Main Character, an up-and-coming attorney in the city of Stellis. The player goes through cases with her while interacting with a main cast of love interests: Luke Pearce, Artem Wing, Marius von Hagen, and Vyn Richter. Together, they solve various cases as well as look into the reason for the sudden abnormal increase in the amount of mental illness cases.

Cards

See also: Card mechanics, Cards

Cards are the main "units" and collectibles in the game. Each card features art of a respective love interest.

Cards are used in "combat" debate stages and can be strengthened in various ways including:

  • Leveling up
  • Evolving
  • Upgrading/Starring up
  • Increasing skill level

SR and SSR Cards also feature unlockable content such as private messages with the love interest, video calls, and card stories. Unlocking and reading these will increase a player's Affection with the love interest.

Gameplay

The main gameplay in Tears of Themis involves going between story and the related investigative work and debate stages.

Story/Investigative Work

During the story, the player may come across parts of the story that will require them to do some investigative work.

Questioning

This part of the game gives a player a set of preset options they can select to ask persons of interest to gain more information on the case.

Clue Analysis

Using clues obtained from the story, the player will be asked to piece together two clues to form a new clue for the case.

Inspection

Players may come across people or items that will require them to inspect for clues.

Investigation

During investigation, a scene will be provided where the player must look for new clues and evidence pertaining to the case.

Debates

See also: Debates

Apart from story stages, players will also have debate stages. In the debate stages, a player must win against an enemy by defeating their arguments in a set amount of turns.

Arguments have a set amount of HP. Players bring a Deck of Cards, and each turn, they will select a card to deal damage to the enemy's argument. The enemy will also attack back during the turn. The debate ends when either:

  • When the enemy's HP is 0, the player wins the debate.
  • When the player's HP is 0, the player loses the debate.
  • When the player runs out of turns, the player loses the debate.

Attributes

There are three attributes in the game: Logic, Intuition, and Empathy. These attributes form a Rock-Paper-Scissors type relationship during debates where Logic is strong against Empathy, Empathy against Intuition, and Intuition against Logic. Choosing a card with a stronger attribute will deal more damage to the argument.

It is also possible for arguments to have no attribute typing (Null) where no particular element will do more damage than another.

Progression

When starting, prioritize completing the Main Story as well as completing dailies. There is game content that is unlocked when completing the Main Story (e.g. Trials of Themis, NXX Headquarters), and unlocking these will unlock another place for players to gain resources.

Once the Trials of Themis are unlocked, also try to prioritize completing 01-10 to unlock Temple of Trials. In the Temple of Trials, players can earn a set amount of Btn money s.pngS-Chips weekly, which is a valuable limited currency used to pull on Visions. When strong enough, players can also increase the S-Chip cap by completing the Trials of Themis 01-25 and 02-25 as well.

Make sure to pay attention to what day it is in-game as well to obtain the necessary evolve materials from Legal Studies.

In addition, add as many friends as possible to increase the amount of Friendship Badges gained. These can be used to purchase materials for strengthening Cards as well.
