==General==
Professor Barr Ralph is an archaeologist credited with the original discovery of the Hessu Ruins in [[Khaimit]]. However, during the process of the protective excavation and conversion of Hessu into an underground exhibition area, the Professor withheld knowledge of further underground chambers<ref name="SotTMain3-1">[[Secrets of the Tomb Main Story 3-1: A New Message]]</ref> that he believed contained Hepharet's true mummy in spite of the discovery of that same mummy in another tomb.<ref name="SotTMain3-3">[[Secrets of the Tomb Main Story 3-3: Secret behind the Mural]]</ref> In addition to his archaeological pursuits, Professor Ralph has published many scientific theories on the concept of space-time and survival analyses of Khaimit's pharaohs.<ref name="SotTMain3-1" />

At an unknown time in Ralph's life, he disappeared and was unable to be contacted; it's said that prior to the disappearance, he was an extremely promising archaeologist, deemed by some to be the "hope of Khaimit." After his return, his mental state was noted to have completely changed, becoming paranoid and withdrawn and repeatedly bringing many wild and unproven academic theories to various Rubis facilities for discussion and publication, often involving the extraction and reconstruction of DNA from mummies.<ref>[[Secrets of the Tomb Main Story 4-1: A New Clue]]</ref> The fact that these theories were repeatedly rejected embittered him, and he came to believe those who stood against him were doing so merely to mock him like everyone else had.<ref name="SotTMain4-4" />

Ralph would later come to take up residence in Hessu's underground chambers, believing the research he pursued there could lead to Hepharet's resurrection and return to rule over Khaimit.<ref name="SotTMain3-3" /> When Hepharet's mummy turned out not to have been interred in Hessu, Ralph became manic and attempted to blow up the ruins, but he was stopped and arrested.<ref name="SotTMain4-4">[[Secrets of the Tomb Main Story 4-4: Between Secrets]]</ref>

Ralph indicated unknown backers of this research that he would later refuse to reveal any information about; he stated that his experiment the day he was confronted by the [[NXX Investigation Team]] would definitely succeed if the data "he" had given Ralph had been correct,<ref name="SotTMain4-4">[[Secrets of the Tomb Main Story 4-4: Between Secrets]]</ref> and references were made in Ralph's manuscripts to an unknown person or entity he called "Sea."<ref name="SotTMain3-3" />

After Professor Ralph's arrest, investigation of his belongings in the lower chambers of Hessu revealed a logbook written in the ancient Khaimit language and encrypted using the Oracle's Edict, a specific script believed to be able to communicate with the gods.<ref>[[Secrets of the Tomb Side Story 4-1: Anonymous Diary]]</ref> They suggest the existence of a wife named Leyla and a beloved daughter named Aziza, neither of whom was known to the Khaimit police prior to the story events. Aziza grew to at least speaking age before succumbing to an unknown illness, possibly marked by a flicker of red in her otherwise "sapphire blue eyes." The rest of the logbook after Aziza's death devolves into denial, a desperate search for a way to return Aziza to the author's side, and then brief notes on failed experiments.<ref>[[Secrets of the Tomb Side Story 4-2: Deciphered Diary]]</ref> Dolls and children's clothing were also found among Ralph's belongings.<ref name="SotTExplore">[[Secrets of the Tomb RPG Exploration]]</ref>

Players have observed that the Chinese text of the game used the character 「海」 for the unknown "Sea" referred to in Professor Ralph's manuscripts.
