The investigation revealed that her personality changed drastically three years prior, when her partner, police officer Daron Rowe, was killed in the line of duty. Daron had been investigating a black market website that was started by Anne's supervisor, Wayne Posek, to sell rare plants. She blamed herself for Daron's death since she could have spoken up about her boss' activities earlier, and she orchestrated the Anniversary case in order to turn on Wayne and bring Daron's work to a close. Anne suffers from chronic aplastic anemia and believed it would be unlikely for her to live much longer after the resolution of the Anniversary case. She makes frequent large donations to philanthropic organizations.

Though he has since been expelled from the team and has been unable to pay his coach back, he protects the square fiercely, hiding among its community as the respected leader "Diego" (小段 / ダイキ / 단승재) and enforcing the culture of the square: forming bonds and supporting neglected neighbors' children through basketball, allowing street vendors to sell their wares without paying rent, and solving disputes fairly without the involvement of outsiders or police. As part of the North Stellis development project, Ash recently agreed to sell the plaza, represented in the deal by [[Themis Law Firm]].
