Jack Barlow, son of Orson Barlow, held a grudge against Joshua Ott because of the lighter sentence and involvement in his father's death. He grew up to be a reporter and vowed to avenge his father.

General[edit | edit source]

Jack Barlow is the son of Orson Barlow, a fisherman who was murdered by a gang of thieves 10 years prior to the story, in 2020. Jack was in high school at the time, caring for a sick mother and elementary-age sister. His mother passed away soon after his father, her illness exacerbated by the emotional distress. Darius Morgan has looked after the Barlows since that time, visiting them during the holidays each year.

Jack has been working as a social journalist for at least three years, during which time he has gotten close to Joshua Ott through interviews with inmates for a criminal documentary.[6][7]

Story[edit | edit source]

Jack's efforts to get close to Joshua Ott paid off shortly before the trip to Nosta, when Joshua confessed the murder to Jack, claiming it was his least memorable kill and that he wouldn't have remembered it if it weren't related to the heist.[8] Enraged and believing there was no way to get justice for this crime, Jack followed Joshua to Nosta in order to take revenge on him, believing Joshua had shared the gold's location with him and that he needed Jack to help retrieve it. However, Joshua lied about the location of the gold, having discerned Jack's identity as the fisherman's son, and used the lie to attempt to kill Jack as well by deceiving Zachary Clarke into believing it would be Joshua at that location.

Jack was shot through the shoulder, but the injury was not life-threatening.[9] Concrete evidence was found on the island that could tie Joshua to Orson Barlow's murder, and the evidence was turned over to Darius. Because Jack's revenge plan was not carried out, he faced no consequences.[10]
