Luke and the main character discuss the reason they believe there were multiple groups of intruders; namely, the presence of evidence that it would have been impossible for Jasmine Kenders to have collected herself, which the police and first group of intruders would both have removed. Luke also uses OCR software to assemble the crayon drawings into the intended clue: ASCII art of a cell phone, last year's model, with a lock screen showing a jasmine flower.

The pair investigates the upper floor of Jasmine's apartment. They find a memory card containing information on Stellis News' marketing budget, which includes a suspicious increase in ad revenue from Heirson Health Products. They also find a letter detailing Ian Johnson's rejection from Stellis University, Jasmine's termination contract from Stellis News, and a Da Vinci cryptex.

Inside the cylinder is a secret message written on papyrus, but you need to turn the dials to a specific 5-letter word to open it. There is no way to force it open without destroying its contents. There are different words on the two sides of the cylinder, probably clues.

Password Dial: The password consists of five characters. Each corresponds with one of the 26 letters in the alphabet. The cryptex contains a vial of vinegar inside. If force is used to open the cryptex, the vial would break, and the vinegar will dissolve the parchment. The only way to obtain the secret inside is to find the right code.

Bottom of Cylinder: The line "You must pay for the secret" is featured on the disc.
