Akari Hidaka was a salarywoman with a well-known company in Stellis until shortly before her recent death in a drunk driving accident. She is survived by her younger sister, Nami Hidaka.

Akari's parents died the year she entered university; she had a close relationship with her sister and, in order to take care of her after their parents' death, gave up an acceptance to a prestigious university in order to attend a more affordable school while working part time. This state of affairs persisted until Nami's sophomore year of college, when Akari's hard work paid off as she earned a position with a well-known company. Nami gifted Akari a suit to congratulate her, then grew distant and depressed; she hid the true reason from Akari, citing study pressures, but Akari would find out abruptly that her sister had fallen victim to a loan trap when the house their parents left them was forcibly taken from them by financier Beddo Lending.[2][3]

Distraught over her sister's deep debt and the harassment she was beginning to face herself at work, Akari's mental state deteriorated, eventually costing her job. However, evidence was later found indicating she had gradually regained control and initiated an investigation of her own into Beddo Lending, casting doubt on the police's conclusion that her death was due to depression and the resulting substance abuse. In her final days, Akari gathered evidence to be sent to the police anonymously in three months through Stellis Library, then she confronted harasser Jae Gim,[4] an act that would cost her life when boss Daniel Song forced her to drink unreasonable amounts of alcohol and then staged the hit-and-run accident that would kill her.[5] The evidence Akari gathered was key in identifying Daniel Song as the identity of the anonymous "Oedipus," an act that would bring two separate investigation teams together and eventually disable the triad operation successfully.
