Journey of Redemption I: Themis Law Firm Front Desk
Themis Law Firm

Themis Law Firm - Reception (Day).png

Go to the Law Firm Front Desk to progress the story.

You: (I finally finished work. Time to go!)

As you think to yourself, your phone suddenly rings. It's Vyn.

You: (I wonder if it is about Jessie?)

Since the chat he had with Jessie in the Central Plaza, Vyn has been trying to think of a treatment plan for her.

Meanwhile, he has promised to contact you as soon as he comes up with something.

Vyn: Are you still at work?

You: Yup, I just finished. What's up?

Vyn: Great, I am actually downstairs...

You: Oh, really?

You: Hang on, I'll be right there.

Vyn: Well, I had some work to do near your office so I thought I might as well wait for you here.

Vyn: By the way, I think I have some new ideas for Jessie's treatment plan.

You: What is it? Is there anything I can help with?

Vyn: I knew you would be happy about it.

Vyn: Take your time. I will tell you about it when we meet. See you soon.

You: Sure, see you.

You hang up the phone, pack up your things, and dash out of the office.

Journey of Redemption II: Central Business District
Themis Law Firm

Stellis - Outside Themis (Day).png

Leave the law firm to find Vyn.

When you arrive downstairs, you quickly spot Vyn in the crowd.

You: Vyn!

Among the hasty passers-by, a familiar figure stands there quietly.

Hearing your voice, Vyn flashes a smile.

Vyn: I told you to take your time. Why are you rushing?

He raises his hand and gently fixes your hair, which got a little messy as you were running.

You: I don't want to keep you waiting.

Vyn: Waiting for you is part of my duty as your boyfriend.

You take his arm, hinting at him to start walking.

You: You said on the phone that you thought of a treatment plan for Jessie. What is it?

Vyn: Among the treatments for depression, there's a method called cognitive therapy.

You: Cognitive therapy?

Vyn: To put it simply, it's used to deal with psychological issues by changing the patients' biased cognition.

Vyn: But Jessie is now in a state of social isolation, and we want to correct her cognition.

Looking at Vyn, who seems serious, you feel happy for him. But at the same time, you can't help remembering his reactions before.

You: (Now he sounds more like the Vyn I know!)

You: (But why was he acting so weird towards Jessie earlier?)

You: (And the question he asked me... what did it mean? I don't understand...)

You can't ignore the alluring gaze in his eyes right in front of you.

Totally unaware that you are distracted, Vyn begins to explain Jessie's treatment plan to you.

Vyn: We have to make sure she feels at ease, which will help us carry out the follow-up treatments more smoothly.

Vyn: [Player], could you help me get into Jessie's internal psyche so that we can help her?

You: Of course! How do we do that?

Vyn: Social isolation is often caused by the accumulation of anxiety and depressive emotions. So once these sentiments exceed a certain threshold...

Vyn: People try to escape from reality to minimize the negative effects of these emotions on themselves.

Vyn: To get out of this state of mind, one option is to confront the underlying source of pain.

You: The underlying source of pain? For Jessie, it's the fact that she can't do ballet anymore.

Vyn: Correct, so my idea is to take Jessie to places that are related to ballet.

Vyn: The more relevant the location is to ballet, the more powerful the stimulus it triggers.

Vyn: I am hoping that this kind of stimulation can be helpful to her.

You: Could it be too much for her? If we go too far...

Vyn: Remember what you told Jessie earlier? You said it's okay to feel pain, but you shouldn't give up because of it.

Vyn: It reminds me of how Jessie is now hiding in a defensive shell, like a turtle.

Vyn: Only strong stimulation can lure her out to face reality again.

Vyn: And that's why I want you to help me.

Vyn: I hope that as an observer, you will be able to monitor and adjust the intensity of the stimulation.

Vyn: After all, Jessie has a lot of trust in you.

You: But...

You still vividly remember how devastated Jessie was. You hesitate for a second, unsure if you should agree to this.

Vyn: Are you worried about Jessie's psychological state?

You: Yeah, after all, I'm not experienced in this field. If something goes wrong...

Vyn grasps your hand gently. The warmth from his palm eases your anxiety.

Vyn: Don't worry. I've made a comprehensive assessment of Jessie's psychological state.

Vyn: No matter what, I won't let the things you're worried about happen again.

His voice is as comforting as the spring breeze. With just a few words, he has managed to completely ease all of your doubts.

You: You're right. I have faith in you.

You: So where are we going next?

Vyn: First, let's go to where Jessie used to practice ballet when she was young.

You: Okay, let's go!

Journey of Redemption III: Southeast Stellis Street
South Stellis Dance Studio

Misc Location - Indoor Gym.png

Go to the dance studio on Southeast Stellis Street where Jessie Ingram learned how to dance.

You and Vyn soon arrive at the dance studio. It's not too small, and there are many posters on the wall on the side.

"Jessie, alumni and prima ballerina of Stellis Ballet..." written in bold and capital letters.

Before you get a chance to read them all, you and Vyn hurry inside to look for Jessie.

Dance Instructor: 1, 2, 3, 4...

Inside the dance room, the teacher is counting for the students.

The children are so focused on their training that none of them notice you.

Jessie watches them, lost in a trance. Her eyes are full of nostalgia and emotion.

Jessie Ingram: Dr. Richter, Miss [Player], there you are.

You: Ms. Ingram, I hope you're feeling better?

Jessie nods with a smile on her face.

Jessie Ingram: I haven't been back for a long time. I've missed this place so much.

Jessie Ingram: Look at the barre... I used to stretch my legs on it every day.

She smiles and looks around. She sounds like she's about to cry.

Jessie Ingram: It's been a really long time... I haven't been back here for ages...

You: ...

You look at Vyn, worried that Jessie Ingram might lose her composure again.

Vyn pats the back of your hand gently to ease your nervousness.

Vyn: It is all right. Do not worry.

???: Oh, Jessie, is that you?

An elegant middle-aged lady walks towards you and hesitantly calls out Jessie's name.

Jessie Ingram: Ms. Gill, it's me.

The lady called Ms. Gill is visibly excited, but she maintains her composure.

Miss Gill: It's been a long time... You...

Noticing the injury on Jessie's leg, a hint of shock flashes across Ms. Gill's face.

But that expression soon disappears. She starts to chat with Jessie with a peaceful and gentle smile on her face.

Not wanting to interrupt their reunion, you and Vyn walk to the side.

You: (Is Ms. Gill introducing her to the latest facilities in the room and the changes that have taken place over the years?)

You: (Jessie seems very content...)

At this very moment in time, it doesn't feel tragic at all. It is just the reunion between a teacher and a student after many years of separation.

It is not until a young teacher comes to consult Ms. Gill on school affairs, that their conversation is brought to an end.

Jessie Ingram: Thank you, Dr. Richter.

Jessie's gaze is filled with emotion as she watches Ms. Gill leave.

Jessie Ingram: At first, I was skeptical when I heard about your plan.

Jessie Ingram: But now, I'm glad I agreed to it.

Jessie Ingram: It was a good decision...

She then shifts her attention to the bulletin board in the rest area. There are notes on the wall written in children's handwriting depicting their beautiful dreams.

"I hope I will become a ballerina like Jessie one day!"

"Jessie is the best! I want to be as good as her!"

...

The children's innocence and enthusiasm are very touching.

You: Even if you can't dance anymore, you are still an inspiration to many.

Jessie Ingram: I...

Jessie Ingram: Miss [Player], you're right. Let's go to the next place!

You: Sure. Where are we going next, Vyn?

You turn around and ask Vyn, who is staring at the bulletin board in a daze.

Vyn: Maybe this is a new meaning of life?

You: I beg your pardon?

Vyn: Oh, nothing.

He looks at you, but his expression has returned to normal.

Vyn: The next place... Let us head to the Central Plaza.

Journey of Redemption IV: Central Plaza
Stellis Central Business District

Stellis - Celebration Plaza.png

Go to the Central Plaza to progress the story.

When you and Jessie arrive at the Central Plaza, your arrival is met with deafening applause.

Many people have gathered in the place where Jessie used to practice ballet. They all look thrilled.

Jessie Ingram: This is?

Vyn: They are your fans.

Vyn: I got in touch with your dance company and asked them to inform your fans.

Vyn: However, I was not expecting so many people to show up.

Vyn fixes his glasses in embarrassment. He's also slightly shocked by the turnout.

Fan Representative: Jessie, the company told us about what happened to you.

Fan Representative: We'll keep it confidential! Don't worry, we respect your decision.

A young man who seems to be the representative of the fans stands out, holding a bouquet of blue hyacinths.

Fan Representative: This is for you, from all of us.

Fan Representative: Blue hyacinths symbolize vitality, which is also the feeling that your dancing brought every one of us.

Fan Representative: So even if you can't dance anymore, the feeling you gave us will never change.

Fan Representative: We will always remember the energy and joy we received from your dancing.

Jessie receives the flowers, slightly surprised.

Jessie Ingram: Thank you all.

Fan A: We should be the ones thanking you.

Fan A: It's your diligence and perseverance that encourages me to keep working hard whenever I want to give up!

Fan B: My boyfriend and I met at one of your performances. Now we're getting married!

Fan C: After seeing your performance, I began to learn ballet!

Fan D: Jessie, you'll always be my goddess! You're just as amazing whether you dance or not.

...

Her fans stand up one after another, sharing their experiences related to Jessie.

They have either been encouraged, made important choices, or found new hobbies...

Hearing their stories, Jessie smiles, but her eyes are clearly teary.

Fans: Jessie, don't cry!

Fans: Jessie, don't cry!

The fans shout out to comfort Jessie.

It is like a relay of warmth. They surround Jessie with the energy they once received from her...

You: (How touching...)

Jessie Ingram: Dr. Richter, Miss [Player], you...

Vyn: What is it?

Jessie Ingram: I want to chat with my fans a little more. Can you come with me?

Jessie has calmed down, but there is still a little hoarseness in her voice.

Vyn: Of course.

Accompany Jessie Ingram to communicate with her fans.

Southwest old man

An old gentleman stands out among the crowd of fans.

Jessie Ingram: Sir, are you also a fan?

Gramps: Oh, not me.

Gramps: But my daughter is.

With trembling hands, from his pocket, he takes out a photo of Jessie with a young girl.

The girl seems uncomfortable in front of the camera. She looks a little stiff.

Gramps: Like you, she also started dancing ballet at a very young age. But of course, she wasn't as talented as you.

Jessie looks at the photo and seems to recall something.

Jessie Ingram: This was my first performance as a prima ballerina.

Jessie Ingram: I remember she told me that she spent more than 10 hours on the flight just to see my performance. She was still jet lagged.

Gramps: Yes, she loved ballet. Unfortunately, she wasn't very talented.

Gramps: She admired and adored you.

Vyn: Where is your daughter? Is she not here with you?

Gramps: She...

Gramps: She passed away in a car accident...

You: ...

Vyn: ...

Jessie Ingram: ...

Vyn: I am so sorry to hear that...

Gramps: Don't be. I heard that you also had a car accident. It reminded me of my daughter... so, I had to come here...

Tears are welling up in his eyes, but he still manages to smile.

Gramps: She had been learning ballet since she was little. Although she didn’t have the perfect build, she never gave up on it.

Gramps: One time, I asked her how long she was going to keep dancing. And she told me she would dance until she didn't want to anymore.

Gramps: I asked her, what if she's already as old as I am when she doesn't want to dance anymore?

Gramps: My daughter was stubborn. She said, what does it matter? As long as we're still alive, we have the opportunity to start again.

His eyes become watery, but he tries to hold back the tears.

Gramps: That's what she told me, so... just start over again. You are an amazing woman. I'm sure you will excel at whatever you choose to do.

Jessie Ingram: Thank you, and thank you to your daughter as well...

Jessie gently grasps the gentleman's hand. He's studying her carefully as if he's thinking about his daughter.

South pair

Young Man: Jessie, can we please have your autograph?

As you walk through the crowd, a couple steps forward.

They hesitate for a while. Eventually, the boy works up his courage and takes out a ticket stub.

Jessie Ingram: Okay.

Young Girl: Me too, please.

The girl next to him eagerly takes out another ticket stub.

Young Girl: Jessie, I love watching you dance.

Jessie nods and looks at the ticket stub in surprise.

Jessie Ingram: This is the show I performed when I first joined the dance troupe overseas. I was only an alternate at the time...

Young Girl: Wow, you really do remember.

Young Girl: I was very lonely at the time because I was studying in a foreign country all by myself, and I didn't know anyone.

Young Girl: To pass the time, I went to the ballet show...

Young Girl: The principal dancer was sick and was unable to perform that day. You performed my favorite role instead.

Young Girl: I will always remember the image of you dancing solo under the spotlight. The energy in your dance gave me inspiration and strength!

Young Girl: From that day on, I became your fan.

Young Girl: To see you perform again, I watched every single show by your dance troupe.

You: What???

Young Man: Haha, isn't she silly? She didn't know she could check the casting in advance.

The shy boy suddenly speaks up and pats the girl on her head.

Young Girl: Well if I didn't, you wouldn't have had the chance to meet me!

The girl pinches the boy's arm angrily. That's when you notice the rings on their fingers.

Young Girl: Thank you, Jessie, for enriching my life in a foreign country.

Young Girl: And because of you, I got to meet the person I want to spend my life with.

Jessie Ingram: Congratulations to you both.

Jessie returns the two ticket stubs to them. She seems to be affected by their emotions.

Jessie Ingram: Thank you for sharing your happiness with me.

She smiles joyfully, and her expression is full of delight and gratitude.

East near bench

Little Girl: Jessie, I love you so much... and...

Jessie Ingram: Don't worry. Take your time. What do we have here? You must be a big fan.

The little girl nods forcefully, as if afraid that she wouldn't believe her.

Little Girl: I... I love ballet, especially when you are dancing. I've watched every one of your videos so many times.

Little Girl: Besides, I am also learning ballet now.

The little girl scratches her head shyly, then raises her arms to demonstrate some dance moves.

Jessie Ingram: Not bad, but your hand needs to be more natural here and not so stiff...

Jessie looks at her appreciatively and carefully corrects her posture.

You and Vyn take a few steps back, not wanting to disturb Jessie and her little fan's intimate moment.

You: Vyn, this feels wonderful...

Vyn: What is on your mind?

You: This used to be the place where Jessie practiced as a child, but now she's here to share her experience with others.

You: This is like...

You think for a moment, but you can't find the right words to describe your feelings, so Vyn interrupts.

Vyn: Passing on the torch?

Vyn: This could be one way to look at it. One does not always get to determine their own value.

He gazes at Jessie, who is talking nearby, but he also seems to be looking further away. There is a meaningful look in his eyes.

Vyn: Was I wrong?

Vyn looks gloomy, as though he is in deep thought.

You: (Jessie's condition has clearly improved. Why does Vyn seem worried?)

You: (Did he encounter a problem? I should ask him about it later...)

Journey of Redemption VI: Central Plaza

Stellis - Celebration Plaza.png

Enough information is learned from Jessie Ingram's fans. Go talk with Jessie Ingram.

Fans: Goodbye, Jessie.

Fans: You can do it, Jessie!

...

With the sound of their farewells, Jessie's fans gradually leave. The Central Plaza regains its usual tranquility once again.

Jessie Ingram: Wow...

You: What is it?

Jessie Ingram: Oh, it's nothing. I just feel very lucky.

Jessie takes a long deep breath. She looks much more relaxed now compared to before.

Jessie Ingram: Let's go. I'm really looking forward to what's next.

Journey of Redemption VII: West Hemingway Heights Street
Stellis Grand Theater

Misc Location - Theater.png

Unexpectedly, the final destination of this journey is the Stellis Grand Theater.

Jessie stops at the entrance of the Stellis Grand Theater.

She looks up at the massive poster at the entrance of the theater.

It's the billboard of the Pygmalion ballet show.

You: Vyn, isn't this too risky?

You: What if Jessie...

Vyn: Fret not, it will be all right.

Vyn must have contacted the grand theater in advance. The worker at the ticket booth just nods at you from a distance.

Walking into the theater, you realize that the ballet is almost over, and the audience is about to leave.

Just then, the audience area that was lit up suddenly goes dark, and a beam of light lands on Jessie, making her the focus of the audience.

You: !!!

For a moment, murmurs start to grow louder in the quiet theater, like the ripples made when a stone has been thrown into a calm lake.

Audience A: Is that Jessie?

Audience B: It looks like her... Why is she... why is she sitting in a wheelchair?

Audience B: No wonder they changed the cast!

...

Young Woman: Gosh, what happened to Jessie?

Young Man: I thought it was just a rumor that she had her leg injured. So it's true!?

Young Woman: What is she doing here?

Young Man: I read that she had mental aftereffects after the accident and has been seeing a doctor.

Young Man: She hasn't gone crazy, has she?

...

The audience's comments are loud, but Jessie's erect posture remains unchanged, as though she couldn't hear them.

At some point, Vyn begins squeezing your hand tightly. His slightly damp palm is an indication of his current mood.

Then comes the sound of the violin from the orchestra, and the audience goes quiet.

A performer in a ballet costume walks out slowly and starts to dance to the melodious music.

Young Man: This is?

Young Woman: It is a piece from the ballet performance of "Nutcracker."

Young Man: Wasn't that the first show Jessie danced in as the prima ballerina?

Young Woman: What's going on?

Audience A: Shhh!

The discussion between the two members of the audience arouses the dissatisfaction of another audience member who is trying to watch the performance. He shushes them loudly.

Embarrassed, the two of them stop chatting and watch the performance on the stage.

The music changes to another familiar tune, and the next dancer is already on the stage.

Jessie, who is not far away, gently drums her fingers to the beat along with the music.

You: (This must be another show that Jessie once performed in.)

Ballet dancers with different costumes appear one after another, dancing to different tunes.

On the stage where Jessie had once danced, the scenes that Jessie performed are now being repeated.

The beautiful and crazy Giselle, the brave and determined Princess Odetta, and Galatea, the gift from God.

You: (Are they performing on Jessie's behalf?)

When the dancing ends, the entire audience erupts with wild applause.

Amidst the cheering, the music transforms into a passionate symphony, and all the members of the dance troupe are now standing on the stage. Together, they invite Jessie to join them.

Jessie hesitates for a moment and looks back at you and Vyn.

Vyn: If you want to go, listen to your heart.

Jessie nods with a smile that is full of confidence and determination.

Jessie Ingram: Thank you.

Two female dancers push her wheelchair and take her to the center of the troupe members on stage.

Chorus Member: Let's welcome Jessie Ingram, prima ballerina of Stellis Ballet!

Audiences: Jessie! Jessie! Jessie!

The audience shouts out Jessie's name, and even you are affected by the touching atmosphere.

Jessie Ingram: Hello, everyone. I'm Jessie. I hope you had a wonderful time tonight.

She bows gracefully.

Even though she is still in a wheelchair, her movements are still as graceful as a swan.

That simple gesture is enough for everyone to know that Jessie is a born dancer, and she's destined to be on the stage.

She and her fellow dancers hold each other's hands and bow to the audience together. The audience once again erupts with thunderous applause. The deafening sound seems to shake even the roof of the theater.

You: Splendid.

Vyn: Yeah...

Although Vyn appears calmer than you on the outside, in his eyes, you can sense the turbulence in his emotions.

You take his hand and whisper in his ear.

You: Vyn... good job...

Vyn: ...

He smiles blissfully with his golden eyes.

Vyn: Thank you, for being with me.

The two of you look up towards the stage at Jessie as she enjoys her final magnificent curtain call.

After a long while, the audience finally calms down, and the show comes to an end.

However, your eyes are still full of tears from the emotional display you just witnessed. You find it difficult to regain your composure.

???: Please wait.

As you and Vyn are about to leave, a girl in plain clothes and stage makeup stops you.

Dancer: Miss [Player], Ms. Ingram wants to see you.

You: Who, me?

You: (Shouldn't it be Vyn?)

You look at Vyn who is beside you. He also looks a little surprised.

You: Okay... I'll be right back.

Vyn: All right.

You follow the girl, then look back subconsciously.

Vyn seems to be saying something, but he is too far away for you to hear him clearly.

You: It's too crowded here. Why don't you wait for me at the entrance of the theater?

He seems to have something more to say, but eventually, he just stands there and waves at you.

The girl leads you up to the stage of the theater where Jessie is sitting quietly in a dark corner.

She nods to the girl beside you, and the girl turns to leave.

Jessie Ingram: This is the first time I've seen an empty theater.

Jessie Ingram: It's actually very spacious here. When it's full of people, I always feel like it's not big enough.

Feeling a little emotional, she turns to look at you seriously.

Jessie Ingram: Miss [Player], thank you for helping me.

She takes out two tickets and hands them to you.

Jessie Ingram: Dr. Richter told me you were going to see the ballet that day.

Jessie Ingram: This is the ticket for the ballet Pygmalion. When you and Dr. Richter have some free time, you can make up for it.

You: Thanks, but... I didn't do anything.

You: It was mostly Vyn who organized...

Jessie Ingram: Of course, I will thank Dr. Richter too.

Jessie Ingram: But I still wanted to talk to you alone, so I took the liberty to invite you to come here by yourself.

You: ...What?

Jessie Ingram: I'm curious. Has Dr. Richter ever had a traumatic experience in the past?

You: !!!

You: Why do you ask?

Jessie Ingram: Because in my opinion... Dr. Richter seems to be overly attached to my case.

Jessie Ingram: During psychotherapy, the things he said really resonated with me.

Jessie Ingram: Moreover, he seemed to empathize with the disgust and fear I felt in my own experience.

Jessie Ingram: So, sometimes, I can't help but wonder if Dr. Richter has had the same experience as me.

You: Well...

Jessie Ingram: Of course, it is just my intuition, so I could be completely wrong.

Jessie Ingram: Miss [Player], don't worry about it. I'm probably just overthinking it.

You: ...

Once again, scenes from the past flash before your eyes.

After Vyn rescued Jessie from the rooftop, there had been a lurking undercurrent in his eyes.

Vyn: Jessie's condition is not looking good. Darwin wants me to help him with her diagnosis.

Vyn: I apologize... I will not be able to go to the ballet with you.

Later in the office, the question he asked...

Vyn: The things you told Jessie earlier...

Vyn: Did you really mean it, or were you just trying to comfort her?

Looking back on the events these past few days, you feel uneasy thinking about all the minute details that just didn't seem to add up.

You: (Did Vyn really experience something traumatic...?)

You: (Is this the answer I've been looking for?)

The anxiety feels like a massive boulder pressing down on your chest.

You're vaguely aware of the implication of what you just heard, but the sensation is fleeting and confusing.

This is not the time to make wild guesses. It's better to go and ask Vyn in person.

You: Jessie, thank you for telling me.

You: But I think... I should head back. Vyn is still waiting for me.

Jessie Ingram: Okay, goodbye.
