You: I was here for so many years, but I didn't know this place existed. It's like a tranquil paradise...

You: Anyway, this is the place! Time to think of how to decorate it.

While conducting evaluations, you learned from the students that campus venues can be rented for parties.

This open space was highly recommended. You understand why after seeing it in person.

You: (I can already imagine an afternoon tea party just by looking at it.)

You: (A birthday tea party is a good idea. Dr. Richter's already in the habit of drinking tea, so he'll definitely like it.)

You later ask the graduate students remaining on campus to help you submit a request to reserve the venue.

Of course, to avoid bothering them any more than necessary, your name and phone number are on the application.

A few days later, you seek out Vyn to obtain some materials needed for the evaluations.

When you arrive at his office, he looks like he's deeply thinking about something.

Vyn: My apologies, but I still have some matters to attend to. I must trouble you for your patience.

Vyn: The materials are on the desk to my right. Please have a read first.

Vyn looks at you and apologetically shakes his head.

You: No worries. Focus on your work, Dr. Richter.

You start looking for the materials on his desk, but you inadvertently notice that his cup is empty.

You: Oh, what's this?

(His assistant isn't here today? Is he so busy that he doesn't even have time to drink water?)

You: (Looks like a job for his teaching assistant!)

You pick up the paper cup and walk towards the automatic water dispenser in the corner.

By the time you bring over the water, Vyn is reading by his desk. It seems like he finished his work.

His eyes slightly flicker upon seeing you.

You: Professor Richter, you've been working hard. Take a break and drink some water.

You: Don't look at me like that. It's the TA's job to assist the professor with their work.

Vyn: Thank you for being so considerate, my teaching assistant.

Vyn takes the cup and puts down the book he was reading.

Vyn: Apologies for keeping you waiting. Did you encounter any problems with the evaluations these past few days?

You: It's been going smoothly except for one minor issue. What students think is usually different from what they say.

You: For example, some students said they didn't want to complete an evaluation, but their words and behavior show that they like you a lot.

Vyn: Yes. People often do not reveal their true feelings. Rather, they manipulate their speech to achieve their desired outcome.

Vyn: Without specialized training, expressions and behaviors are extremely difficult to control.

Vyn: That is why I previously said that you obtain much more information through observation.

You: I finally get what you meant. You're amazing, Dr. Richter!

Vyn suddenly stands up and puts down the cup.

Vyn: Ah, yes. I heard that some students were holding an event in the garden's open space, and that the venue is creatively decorated.

Vyn: We both happen to have some free time. Shall we take a break and have a look?

You: Huh? The garden!?

Wait, the garden's open space? Isn't that the spot you rented as Vyn's birthday venue!?

Does he want to check it out because he mistakenly thought it was a student event?

Vyn's proposal puts you at a loss. Perhaps noticing your discomfort, he asks you a question out of concern.

Vyn: Is something amiss?

The birthday celebration plan is critical. You just started decorating — he absolutely can't see it!

Your brain is racing a mile a minute. You need to come up with a reasonable rejection!

You: I don't! ...Um, I mean, can we go later?

Ask question

You: I still have questions to ask! About behavioral psychology...

Vyn: If you have questions, you can ask them on the way over.

You: It's the evaluations. The questions are about the evaluations!

Vyn: You have already worked hard the entire day. Let us go on a relaxing walk.

You: Uh...

Don't want to go out

You: I—I'm already really tired. I don't want to go out...

Vyn: Is conducting the evaluations too taxing? ...

Vyn: The weather is fair today. Going for a walk may improve your spirits.

Vyn: How about I treat you to dessert afterwards as recompense?

You: But I don't want to eat dessert...

After hearing your refusal and possibly because he sees the reluctance on your face, Vyn finally stops insisting.

Vyn: ...If you really are unwilling to go, then that is fine.

Vyn: It was but a suggestion. After all, that area is populated with students.

Vyn: They probably would not wish to see their teacher during break.

Vyn: I did not realize it would make you this uncomfortable...

You: ...

Vyn's words take a weight off your shoulders. You mentally sigh in relief.

You: (This was probably a fluke. Good thing I was able to convince him.)

You: (Dr. Richter's sharp, so I need to be more careful. He can't catch onto any of this before his birthday.)

You: (Hmm... I need to plan things better.)

You leave his office at lightning speed with the excuse that you have evaluations to do in the afternoon.

After [Player] leaves, Vyn sips the cool water from the cup as if he was sampling a vintage wine.

Vyn: ...Well, it is difficult to control one's expressions and behaviors and to mask one's true thoughts.

Half an hour earlier.

When [Player] gets up to fetch water, she accidentally leaves her phone on the desk.

Following a clear chime, a notification pops up on the screen.

Vyn: ...What is this?

"Hello! Your venue application has been approved. Please confirm the following information."

"Name: [Player]; Phone Number: xxxxxxxx; Venue Category: Private; Application Reason: Birthday party..."

Vyn: ...I see that my suspicions were correct.

Vyn: Since this is the case... I shall look forward to it.
