Tasting fun foods usually involves three steps. The first step is to unwrap the packaging.

You: Hmm? It tastes like...

Luke: Tuna? But the texture is more like dried dough.

Luke: It's different from what I expected.

You: The back of the package says, "The taste of this product is only an imitation. Do not feed this to cats."

You: Well...

Luke: So it's not for cats? It's just an imitation of the taste?

You: Though I've tasted it, it's so bland that I don't feel like I've eaten anything...

Luke: I have a phrase for that feeling - it's a rip-off.

Luke: Whatever. Let's see what else you bought...

Luke: Huh? This milk tea flavor Jell-O is the same brand that I had when I was a kid!

You: That's right. Try it and see if it's the same as you remember.

Luke: It really is!

You: I got it for you. I knew you would like it.

You: Oh, should we do something after dinner? Like... continue our date that we didn't finish yesterday?

Luke: Sorry to let you down, but... I have scheduled something for this afternoon.

Luke: The old tape recorder that Mr. Orozco has me fixing is missing an amplifier.

Luke: I ordered one from a thrift store in North Stellis and it arrived this morning. I need to pick it up later, so I won't be able to...

You: That's okay. There are no rules about where you can go on a date. I can go to North Stellis with you. I'd like to see the thrift store.

Luke: Sure. There is always something interesting in the thrift shop. We can get you something if you happen to see something you like.

You: Mm-hmm!

As you are talking, Luke's phone suddenly vibrates. It's an incoming call...

Call From Client

Listen in on Luke's conversation to see who called him.

Luke quickly picks up the phone and, out of curiosity, you lean over.

Luke takes your hand and seats you next to him. The thin calluses on his hand brush against your palm, subtly ticklish.

Luke: Hello, Mr. Orozco.

Luke: The tape recorder? I'm still working on it. It will be ready next week.

Luke: Okay, I'll bring it to Williamsburg District after it's fixed.

You: (Never knew that Luke can be so focused and serious when at work...)

You: (He is not the boy from my memory anymore. He is a mature man now.)

You: (Is that why people always say that a serious man is an attractive man?)

After hanging up the phone, Luke looks at you curiously.

Luke: What's wrong? You look a little strange...

You: No! Huh? You got me all wrong!

You: By the way, was that a call from Mr. Orozco about the tape recorder?

Luke: Yes. He wanted to know if it has been fixed yet. He asked me to take it to Williamsburg District after it's done.

Luke: Strange. He usually comes to the Antique Shop to pick things up in person.

You: I guess he just doesn't have time to pick it up right now.

You: Hey, don't worry about that. Let's go to North Stellis and pick up the amplifier you need!

Let's go! Go with Luke to the Thrift Shop in North Stellis to get parts.

To find the right parts, you and Luke take the old tape recorder to North Stellis.

You: Hmm... it's closed. Luke, are you sure this is the right place?

Luke: Positive. I come to this store for parts all the time. It has the most complete inventory in all of Stellis. You can get anything you need from here.

Luke: This is the appointment time. Let me call the shop owner and see what's going on...

Granny: Are you two looking for something in the thrift store?

You: Yes, Granny. But it's closed...

Granny: The shop owner had to go out for a while. He'll be back soon.

You: I see. Thank you, Granny.

Luke: Then let's take a stroll... Huh!?

You: What's wrong?

Luke: Look, is that... Nami Hidaka over there!?

Smooth Sailing

You see someone familiar on the streets. Go see if it's Nami Hidaka.

A few months ago, you and Luke worked together to take Beddo Lending to court for debt trapping.

Nami Hidaka was one of its victims.

As you approach Nami, she notices you. She waves and walks toward you.

Her footsteps are brisk as if an oppressive haze has been lifted and her whole being has become bright and sunny.

Nami Hidaka: Miss [Player], Detective Pearce, what a coincidence to meet you here.

Recent situation

You: Nami, how are you?

Nami Hidaka: Good. I finally moved back into my parents' house in North Stellis two days ago.

Nami Hidaka: Thanks to your help, I was able to get the house back quickly.

You: That's great. Congratulations. Your parents' house... Is that the one behind you?

Nami Hidaka: Yes. This house is full of memories of my sister and me from our childhood, although...

Nami Hidaka: Well... although my sister is dead, I will try to live on with her in my heart.

Nami Hidaka: Why did you two come to North Stellis?

You: We're here to buy parts from the thrift store next door. This is the tape recorder that we want parts for.

You point to the old tape recorder Luke is carrying, showing it to Nami Hidaka.

Nami Hidaka: A tape recorder? Hey, it looks familiar. It looks like the one Grandpa Orozco used to have.

You: Grandpa Orozco?

Grandpa Orozco

You: Luke, remember the person who asked you to fix this recorder? Wasn't his name also Orozco?

Luke: Well, Miss Hidaka, who is this Grandpa Orozco you are talking about?

Nami Hidaka: Grandpa Orozco lives next door to me—he watched me grow up.

Nami Hidaka: I remember him having an old tape recorder that he loved—he carried it around with him, all day...

Nami Hidaka: Grandma Orozco was once arguing with Grandpa Orozco over something trivial and accidentally broke the recorder. It made him very angry.

Luke: Then what happened?

Nami Hidaka: Grandpa Orozco was angry and Grandma Orozco went around trying to find a new tape recorder to make him happy.

Nami Hidaka: I mean... As far as I can remember, those two have always quarreled, but they usually make up by the next day.

Nami Hidaka: Perhaps, being quarrelsome is also a sign of true love.

You: (Quarrelsome... Weren't Luke and I pretty quarrelsome last night? )

You can't help looking up and making eye contact with Luke. Suddenly, you both burst into laughter.

Nami Hidaka: What's wrong?

Luke: ...

You: It-it's nothing.

Maybe you've been too caught up in your own head...

Couples who have stable relationships have arguments with each other at times.

For young people like you and Luke, who have a fairly new relationship, it's common to butt heads once in a while, isn't it?

As long as you take the time to try to understand each other and put yourselves into others' shoes, there is no conflict that you can't get through.

Future plans

You: By the way, Nami, what are your plans for the future?

Nami Hidaka: I'm going to go back to school next semester. It's time to get my life back on track.

Nami Hidaka: After all... Now I'm living for my sister too.

You: Come on. Your life should be smooth sailing after all the setbacks you've had.

Nami Hidaka: Thank you, Miss [Player].

Nami Hidaka: I have something on my schedule, so I've got to go. See you later.

You: Okay. Bye.

As you gaze at Nami's back, you smile.

You: This is the first time I've seen her really happy.

Luke: If it wasn't for you, Beddo Lending, that had pushed Nami into the abyss, wouldn't have been brought to justice so quickly.

Hearing Luke's words, you hold his hand as you look straight into his bright, clear eyes.

You: It was the two of us. I couldn't have done it on my own.

You: Together, we are able to help so many people and give them back their hope in life. So, should we...

Luke: I will be right by your side, as we help more people in need.

You: Mm-hmm!
