You raise your wrist and tap twice on the smartwatch terminal. A virtual map pops up with your position clearly displayed on it.
Because landing locations were randomly decided, the first mission is for the five of you to regroup.
On your virtual map, you locate the coordinates you all had previously agreed upon and start heading there.
You: It's not far, so I'll be there in a little while.
You: But... Our first team building didn't start off very well...
Thinking about what happened on the cruise ship in the past few days, you can't help but sigh.
"Treasure Island" officially started five days ago.
The five of you boarded Marius' personal cruise ship with the other participants and set off towards the island.
On the first night of the event, there was an opening ceremony on the ship, where the host explained the event to all the guests.
Host: Before we land on the island, please leave all your communication devices on the ship. This includes mobile phones and wireless devices.
As soon as the host says those words, voices of discussion erupt from the venue.
Host: You all must be wondering how you will contact your companions or request help without your devices.
Host: Everyone, there is no cause for alarm. The "Treasure Island" event does not require a liability waiver to be signed.
Host: Every participant will receive a smartwatch terminal.
The host raises her hand. A holographic screen displays a diagram explaining how to use the terminals.
Host: These smartwatch terminals can display a map of Nosta, serve as communicators, and pinpoint everyone's location on the island.
Host: If necessary, you can use your terminal to contact reception at any time, and staff will rush to your location.
Host: Reception will monitor all participants' locations in real time to ensure everyone's safety and event fairness.
Host: After the event ends, all participants who have accumulated enough gold coins will receive a commemorative, 24-karat gold badge, courtesy of Pax Entertainment.
The host then begins to demonstrate the terminal's various functions.
As you listen to her explanation, you survey the people in the room. This is the first time you've seen all the participants.
The hall contains about one hundred people, with most of them being treasure hunters. They all look fit and raring to go.
You: I didn't think so many treasure hunters would join the event...
You: I thought they wouldn't be interested in these reality show events.
Marius: When riches call, people answer.
Marius: Plus, there's more than money to earn.
You: You mean the legend of the island?
After receiving Marius' invitation, you went online to look up information about the event location: Nosta Island.
Nosta, one of Nation A's territories, is located in the Atlantic Ocean. Its history can be traced back a thousand years.
However, detailed written records only exist starting from the Era of Navigation.
This island was once a pirates' travel hub, so rumors abound of hidden pirate treasures.
You: After the Era of Navigation, Nation A occupied the island and constructed a maritime prison specifically for exiled prisoners.
The name of the island was coined by its prisoners; it means "never to return home."
"Nosta" is a transliteration. In Nation A's language, the word also means "despair."
You: If there really were treasures on the island, the prison guards would've long taken them.
You: I also heard that Nation A sent some archaeologists to investigate the island a few years back, but they didn't find anything.
You: The legend of treasures is just that: a legend.
Vyn: That is reasonable, but there will always be those who believe they know better.
Vyn: Furthermore, there is now a more reliable source of information about the treasures on the island.
You: More reliable information about the treasures?
Artem: You mean the Great Gold Heist?
Luke: Is this what you two meant when you said you had "business"?
