Artem: Correct. You're quite perceptive. There is a questionable point in Darius' story.

You: That point is...

Jack has been in contact with Joshua for three years

You: If Jack's determined to avenge his father, how could he tolerate meeting with his killer for three years?

You: In those three years, there must've been many opportunities to kill Joshua.

Artem: Every time they met in the prison, they were monitored by prison guards and security cameras.

Artem: Under such circumstances, Jack wouldn't have any opportunities to seek revenge.

You: I forgot Joshua was in prison...

[back to choice]

Jack is in an amiable relationship with Joshua

You: You heard from Darius that Joshua and Jack have a good relationship?

You: If Jack's determined to avenge his father, why would he be close to Joshua?

Artem: Yes. This is why Darius suspects that Jack plans to kill Joshua.

Artem: Darius is under the impression that Jack hates the gang that killed his father.

Artem: He wouldn't become with friends with Joshua, who is a member of that gang.

You: Jack might have faked his friendship with Joshua to get closer to him.

Artem: We can't rule out that possibility.

Artem: Darius planned to come here himself, but he's currently involved with another case.

You: I see. No wonder he asked you to come instead. But, how are we going to approach Jack?

Artem: If Jack didn't tell Darius, someone he's close to, then we have little chance.

Artem: First, let's approach him as regular contestants and verify his real reason for coming here.

You: Okay.

You: Hey, Mr. Wing, do you think we should tell Jack that we're lawyers when we meet him?

You: We can say we're interested in the Great Gold Heist and that we're here to investigate some suspicions regarding the case.

You: If Jack's here for revenge, we might be able to sway him if he thinks we can uncover the truth.

You: Joshua's also here on the island. He'll likely try to destroy any evidence of his crimes.

You: If we can get evidence to punish Joshua, that will put Jack's mind at ease about all of this.

Artem: We can try.

Artem: In that case, I suggest we go someplace first.

Artem: It would be a better setting for our "encounter."

You: Where is it? Will Jack be there?

Artem: He definitely will... Because it's where his father was killed.

The location that Artem mentioned, the place where Jack's father died, is an abandoned cabin in the forest.

After you identify the location of the cabin on the map, you start heading in its direction.

Along the way, Artem walks ahead of you, scouting with a walking stick.

You suddenly realize that you probably won't be able to use the wilderness survival skills you learned since Artem's here.

You: (I didn't expect Mr. Wing to be so reliable even in the outdoors.)

All of a sudden, you recall Artem was reading "Remote Island Survival Techniques" in his spare time on the ship.

You: (Seems like Mr. Wing's aptitude for learning is useful even for outdoor survival.)

During a rest break en route, Artem sends you an electronic file.

Artem: The file on the Great Gold Heist. I had requested it from the court.

You open the file, quickly skim it, and then discuss it with Artem.

You: So the only evidence for Orson's murderer is Joshua's statement?

Artem: Yes.

No wonder Jack wasn't convinced with the court's sentence. It's all dependent on Joshua's side of the story.

Having said that, it's true that the prosecution was also unable to charge Joshua with murder.

Artem: Nosta is far from the mainland. It would take a while for Nation A's police to come here, even by plane.

Artem: It was also monsoon season. When the police arrived, a lot of clues and traces were already compromised.

Artem: According to clues obtained from the body, the police determined that Orson died by suffocation.

Artem: However... No weapon was found.

In the file photos, there is an odd indentation next to the marks on Orson's neck.

You: What's this indentation...?

Artem: According to Mrs. Barlow's statement, that indentation was from a necklace.

You detect a trace of poignancy in Artem's voice.

Artem: The Barlows weren't well off. To provide a better life for his family, Orson spent most of his time fishing in distant places.

Artem: As a safety charm, Mrs. Barlow made a necklace by linking copper coins together and had her husband wear it.

You: ...

Artem: The police searched the scene when they arrived, but they didn't find this necklace.

You: Did the murderer take or destroy it after they killed him?

Artem: That's what the police thought.

Artem: But soon after Orson's death, there was a mutiny among the gang members.

Artem: Any clues to finding the necklace were also lost.
