Summary
While looking for
Shirley Shaw's room, the
main character discovers Shirley has had many generous visitors and donors after her ordeal. This, taken together with her rare and expensive treatment and
Woody Merrin's habit of fundraising for patients in need, begins to form a motive for the incident.
During questioning, Shirley denies she spoke to Woody through the abduction incident and claims she paid back any money Woody gave her since she felt his own financial situation wasn't stable enough to assist her. She claims her medical situation is stable for the time being and she hasn't considered any fundraising. Later, a doctor reveals her lie, saying her condition is dire and she needs surgery as soon as possible.
