Nami Hidaka is a resident of North Stellis who recently fell victim to a loan trap through Beddo Lending and lost her sister, Akari Hidaka, to a drunk driving accident.
Nami was a college student and part-time worker who was very close to her sister until she got involved in her loan trap ordeal during her sophomore year.[1] She borrowed $2,000[TL note 1] to reward her sister with a new suit in celebration of recent success after a long period of hardship. The loan company deliberately disappeared on the day her repayment was due, then began to compound late fees and breach of contract fees, pressuring her into taking another loan at an even higher interest rate, until the amount she owed was multiplied over a hundred times. She was also extorted for nude photos and pressured to work off her debt in a KTV bar, with the situation finally coming to a head when Beddo Lending used false evidence to get a court order to take her family home.[2]
With the loss of their home, Akari finally discovered the debt Nami had been hiding; the two moved repeatedly to avoid the ongoing harassment, with Akari growing increasingly reclusive -- feeding Nami's already crushing guilt -- until Akari's death. Nami's accusations were enough to get one of her primary harassers, Jae Gim, temporarily imprisoned. He was released quickly, after which Nami started planning to do something drastic to retaliate against him, but a sympathetic police officer saw her plan and warned her away from it.[1] Nami then quit school and took enough part time jobs to see her constantly working herself to exhaustion, intending to save enough to pay for Akari's funeral before ending her own life.[3]
Nami agreed to delay doing anything rash until the investigation into Beddo Lending was complete and chose to abandon her plans upon learning the truth of her sister's murder. She was later captured by Daniel Song to use as leverage to force the main character into a specific action; during her captivity, all five of the fingers on one of her hands were broken, and she was given a severe head injury, but she stated she was willing to pay any price, even her life, to drag her sister's murderers to hell with her.[4] She was rescued from the ordeal and given proper medical attention, and she has seen a full recovery, grateful for the fact that her life was saved and her sister's death wasn't in vain.[5]
