Script
Dilapidated Neighborhood
The youth's safety - Head to the derelict neighborhood to progress the story.
While you're on the way to North Stellis, you inform the police of your findings.
Officer Day immediately indicates that he'll come over and help with this investigation. With North Stellis being such a chaotic district, no one would want to encounter any dangers during this investigation.
You soon meet up with Terry in North Stellis, and he proceeds to lead you on a search to find where Tony Lester's dad used to live.
Luis Terry: I think it's around here somewhere...
After passing through some run-down alleyways, Terry scans his surroundings and turns into a narrow road diagonally ahead.
Finally, Terry stops in front of an extremely dilapidated building.
Luis Terry: This should be it... Yeah, that's right, the seafood market isn't far from here.
Luke: Thank goodness it hasn't been demolished... which floor is it?
Luis Terry: Third floor!
You: Let's go!
Officer Day already obtained the spare keys to the apartment from the real estate agent before you arrived.
When you open the door, you behold a shocking scene.
A thin young man is leaning outside the window of the living room as if he's about to jump down!
You: !!!
A blur flashes past the edge of your vision before you can even react. In the blink of an eye, Luke and Officer Day have rushed over without hesitation.
Moments before the young man falls through the window, the two of them tightly grab onto him and forcibly heave him back before putting him next to the living room wall.
However, the young man is shaking and struggling to extract himself from their grip. He is evidently startled.
Tony Lester: Let me go... I don't want to die the way you want me to... No...
You: Is Tony...?
Luke realizes something is off as well, and he hurriedly puts his hand on the young man's forehead.
Luke: He's running a fever! He probably thinks we're from Victoria.
At that moment, Terry finally recovers from his initial shock and runs up anxiously, giving a tight hug to the delusional young man.
Luis Terry: Tony? Tony, wake up! It's me, Uncle Luis! We're here to save you! No one's going to hurt you again!
Tony Lester: Uncle Luis...
The young man's body freezes, then his eyes seem to gradually gain focus. He looks at Terry, who is hugging him, and then looks around.
Tony Lester: And you are... Luke...
When Luke hears Tony Lester say that, he pauses in the middle of making the phone call for an ambulance and nods gently at the young man.
Luke: Yep, that's me.
Tony Lester: Ah! Right! That mechanism... You...
Luke: Don't worry. We solved it and passed it to the police. The police are on it and will soon make some progress.
Tony Lester: That's good...
Terry pats Tony's head before the young man can finish his sentence.
Luis Terry: What do you mean "good"? You little dummy... You got into such big trouble, but you never told your uncle...
Terry tenderly settles the young man onto the sofa while you wait for the ambulance to arrive, helping him to lean against the back of the sofa in a comfortable position.
Another police officer arrives with a fresh bottle of water and passes it to Terry. The man thanks the officer and then gets Tony to sip on it.
Whether it is the water or some other reason, Tony seems to come to his senses after a short break.
He looks at you as if he wants to say something but remains reserved.
You: We finally found you, Tony Lester...
However, the boy holding the bottle of water in his hands looks confused when he hears this.
Tony Lester: Why... do you want to find me?
You: Huh?
Tony Lester: Actually... I never thought anyone would try to find me... and never expected anyone to be able to find me...
Luke: Why do you think that?
The young man pouts as he looks at you as if he's internally debating something.
Luke: You didn't want anyone else to get into danger because of your investigation, so you didn't want anyone to find you. Am I right?
Tony Lester: ...
The young man looks shocked as if Luke saw right through him. Seeing Tony's reaction, Luke doubles down on his questions.
Luke: You also didn't want anyone to know about your condition in case they felt bad. Right?
Tony Lester: I...
Tony looks at Terry, who's still trying to bring down the fever.
Luis Terry: It's okay to talk about it. We're not going to get upset.
Terry's encouraging words and gaze motivate Tony greatly. The young man raises his head and looks at you with a more determined expression.
Tony then tells everyone the entire story.
Tony Lester: About half a year ago, I found out that something was wrong with me, so I went everywhere and visited different hospitals, but nothing worked.
Tony Lester: I thought I was suddenly about to recover, but then it started to get worse and I got symptoms I never experienced before... So I thought there might have been something wrong with the hospital I had the operation in.
Luke: And you started investigating that hospital to prove your suspicions?
Tony Lester: Yep. Then I found out there was something wrong with the medication in that hospital, and I also discovered Victoria Pharmaceuticals and the research institute behind them...
Tony Lester: But Victoria almost found out about me. Thankfully, I paid lots of attention to surveillance cameras in this area, and I evaded all the ones I knew.
Tony Lester: Still, I was scared that my investigation might hurt people close to me... So I decided to quit school.
The young man's voice lowers. He doesn't even dare look at Terry, who's sitting next to him.
Tony Lester: I know how serious this illness is, and I know that I can die anytime. That's why I didn't plan on telling anyone.
Tony Lester: I didn't want to make everyone feel bad...
Luke: ...
Luis Terry: ...
Terry pats Tony's hair tenderly, his eyes full of concern.
Tony Lester: I wanted to dig even deeper once I found out about Victoria. They must have large numbers of people and lots of money supporting them.
Luke: Right. Rickmon... the man who was beaten up by Victoria and got left in the alleyway that night... you are the one who got him help, right?
As expected, the young man nods lightly after some thought.
Tony Lester: I found out some info about the core personnel at that time and suddenly discovered that someone else was also looking into it.
You: ...That "someone else" was Rickmon, right?
Tony Lester: Yeah, but his activities were too obvious. I wanted to find a chance to warn him, but when I found him... I was too late.
Tony Lester: Victoria's people were beating him up when I went there... I wanted to find help, but my symptoms acted up...
Tony Lester: I... couldn't do anything to help...
Tony's body trembles lightly as if he is recalling the cruel memories of that day. He has even squashed the water bottle a bit.
You quickly move up to pat his head and get him to calm down.
You: It's okay. Don't think of it that way. You already did a great job...
Tony's eyes are red as he nods at you. He calms himself down before continuing.
Tony Lester: After the pain passed, my head got clearer, and I could walk again, but the people from Victoria had disappeared.
Tony Lester: I wanted to call the police or the ambulance, but that would make it easier for Victoria to find me. They already suspect me as it is.
Tony Lester: So I pretended to be passing by, and I ran into a guy. Then I made up something and asked him to go save Rickmon.
Everything is now connected to your previous investigation and mostly matches Luke's deductions.
Now that Luke sees Tony's mind is relatively clear, he asks the young man another question.
Luke: I have a question. Why did you decide to give me such an important item?
Tony smiles bitterly. He stretches out his hand and looks at his pallid arm.
Tony Lester: You all know that I fainted in the middle of the road once, right?
Luke: Is that because your symptoms acted up?
Tony Lester: Yes... I didn't wake up until midnight that time, and that's how I knew my body was getting worse...
Tony Lester: To be fair, I was scared... I thought about loads of things. I was afraid that I'd die the next instant and no one would ever discover my findings...
Tony Lester: That there will be more innocent people who will suffer like I did...
You: I got it... Is that why you went to find Luke?
Tony Lester: Yes... You probably guessed why I trusted Luke so much... it's because I saw you investigating Rickmon's case.
Tony Lester: You put everything you had into Rickmon's case, so it must be safe to give that to you.
Tony Lester: So, I snuck out of the hospital and encrypted the cloud website address into a cipher, wrote down some clues, and put it inside the antique.
Tony Lester: That way, Victoria wouldn't find it, and I... would also be able to live out the last days of my life peacefully...
Luis Terry: You silly boy...
You can't help but feel bad for the young man. He's always thinking for the information and other people but never for himself.
Luke sighs helplessly and looks troubled.
Luke: So you never thought we would come and find you?
Luke: Did you think it was enough for us just to solve the mechanism and decrypt the message?
These questions seem to be trying to validate something, as well as reminding the young man of some key truths.
Tony pauses when he hears this, and then obediently nods.
Tony Lester: Yep... I thought it'd be enough for you to just obtain the key evidence about Victoria...
You look at Luke before walking up to the young man and bend down, keeping your gaze at the level of his eyes.
You: No. Our priority in this investigation has always been finding you and ensuring your safety.
You: We guessed that you didn't want anyone to find you, so we weren't going to leave you on your own.
Luke walks up, slightly frustrated, and crouches down with you to face Tony.
Luke: Did you think about what would happen if I didn't recall your gestures and hints? Or if I wasn't smart enough to solve the puzzle?
Tony pauses again as if he had never considered this question.
Tony Lester: Um... I—I trust you... so... I thought you'd definitely solve it...
Luke sighs again and grins, then softly pats the young man's head.
Luke: You... You are definitely still a kid.
It's because he's a kid that he can have such absolute and complete faith in someone he finds trustworthy.
And yet, if the young man hadn't entrusted his clues to Luke but to someone more nefarious, then perhaps this case would have reached a different conclusion.
You can understand what Luke is thinking and what causes him to let out a soft sigh. Luke then looks at the slightly confused young man and speaks again.
Luke: By the way, I almost forgot to tell you... This illness is perhaps not as despairing as you think.
Luis Terry: ...Really!?
Tony Lester: Eh? But what I found out was...
Luke: Look, the ambulance is here. We'll talk more once we're at the hospital.
Tony Lester's case has finally concluded. You can now relax and follow Luke and the young man to the municipal hospital.
Heal - Head to the hospital to progress the story.
After arriving at the hospital, Terry takes Tony and goes with the staff to get the paperwork sorted.
Meanwhile, you meet with Aaron and explain the current situation to him.
Aaron can't help but sigh when he hears this.
Aaron Yishmir: Seriously... Who knows when we would have found Tony had we missed out on some of the details?
Luke: Aaron, about Tony's illness...
Luke: I deliberately sent him over because I feel like his symptoms are... very similar to Rickmon's girlfriend's, Olivia Kilner's...
Luke: It'd be best if he could get treatment here with you. It'll be more "convenient."
You: ...
You understand why Luke paused. Perhaps he was trying to say that Tony Lester... is similar to him.
Aaron Yishmir: No problem. I understand what you mean.
Aaron Yishmir: If Tony encounters any dangers when undergoing treatment, I'll go report to my managers.
Aaron Yishmir: We'll run some thorough tests in the next few days. By then, his test results should all be out. I'll get more help if it turns out that we need more advanced medical support.
Luis Terry walks over with Tony as well at this time. Hearing these words, they seem overjoyed and proceed to thank all of you profusely.
In fact, Tony looks like he finds all this quite unbelievable.
Tony Lester: Thank you...
Luis Terry: Thank you so much for saving him and helping us!
Luke: Just doing our jobs.
You: It was nothing. Please head inside quickly. Don't catch a cold now, Tony.
You leave the situation for Aaron to deal with. After you and Luke bid farewell to the others, you plan to head back to the police to discuss other matters.
You need to sort out the key evidence that Tony Lester mentioned in his document about the pharmaceutical company. You also need to discuss how to capture key personnel from Victoria.
